Allotino — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

AVOID AVOID AVOID. The food is mediocre at best for greek cuisine (I'm Greek) and there are other places around with much tastier options. However, the food was not the worst part, it was the wait and the terrible customer service. We were waiting for 30 minutes for our starters (mind you no complicated dishes, just a salad, chips and dips) and ONE HOUR for our main dishes. When we asked them to cancel our main dishes and bring us the bill because it was getting late and there was NO COMMUNICATION as to the delay etc, they brought the dishes in 5 minutes... we did not eat anything, we sent them back and we also got charged for these. When we complained about the wait to both the service and the owner we were even got told off (plus given a thousand excuses for the delay that did not make sense - nowhere in my life have I waited for 1 hour for a main course). You may not know that Zakynthos was occupied by Valencia for around 300 years; it had a huge impact on its food. I was eating supper in Allotino for 5 days in a row while I was staying on the island, each day discovering something extraordinary in the menu. The lovely chef makes you happy by served dished. I tried pasta with chicken (omg... heaven in my mouth), pasta with vegetables, pasta with shrimps, risotto with mushrooms (omg2), squids, octopus, cheese cake (three time)(omg3). Dessert was proposed by chef on her own when she came to ask whether I like the pasta. The last but not least: waiter Angelo is so kind and funny that you wish to come back even more often. We had dinner at Allotino, located in the center of Zakynthos, and we were really pleased with the experience. The traditional Greek dishes were delicious, with authentic and well-balanced flavors. The service was excellent, with friendly staff who were attentive to every detail. The atmosphere was very pleasant, perfect for a relaxing evening. The value for money was outstanding. The only downside was the wine, which didn’t really impress us, so I wouldn’t recommend it.
