Marpesa Gastro Bar — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

Nestled in a prime position within St Markos Square in Zante Town. You’d be forgiven for thinking this restaurant was an overpriced tourist trap. But we were hungry, it was late, so we took the plunge. We were very pleasantly surprised.

The service was impeccable. Light touch, welcoming and just the right side of friendly. We ordered the potato wedges. You can tell a lot about a restaurant from how good the potato wedges are and these were superb. Par boiled, then smashed apart and then deep fried. Seasoned perfectly, with crispy razor sharp edges protecting a soft pillowy centre. Yum.

I ordered the rigatoni with beef ragu. Beef had clearly been cooked for hours. The pasta was the absolute epitome of al dente. Delicious. The better half ordered rib eye cooked to medium. Great meat, seasoned very well. And perhaps the star of the show…their take on a caprese salad. Burrata under siege by beautifully tangy firm tomatoes mixed through with rocket and a pesto garnish. Just sublime.

Ultimately this is simple food cooked with love, care and attention. It’s not cheap but it’s not pricy either. Just what you’d expect to pay for a wonderful dining experience.

Without exaggerating, one of the best diner ever!

We stumbled upon this restaurant by accident. Just walking the streets of Zakynthos City. When I said to my girlfriend: "I'm really hungry".

We walked to the menu displayed outdoor where we had a very warm welcome. Not the kind you get by other some aggressive restaurant but an sincere welcome.

After she persuaded us we sat down. The waiters are really friendly! Smiling all the time and asking if you are okay, but, again sincere.

My girlfriend ordered the buratta and the gnocchi without meat. I ordered the Boa Buns and the grilled tuna.

The food came directly from a magazine. Really nice displayed but the most important part: it was so delicious 😱

By far the best food I ever tasted. Not to kiss up with the people here, I really mean it.

Great experience, the food was Michelin star quality, the cocktails were so refreshing and mouthwatering. The service was excellent and the waiters welcomed us straight away and were checking on us every 5-10 minutes, making sure the table wasn't too cluttered. And the atmosphere was perfect, there were enough people there for it to seem popular but not too many that it was crowded.

Overall, this was the best restaurant I have ever been to.
