Sugo Taverna Zakynthos Town — Restaurant in Zakynthos Municipality

The food does taste good, I’ll start with that but this isn’t a place I would necessarily recommend. It’s good price wise and food tastes good. However, the servers were all a bit short with me and had a bit of an attitude- beyond the usual miscommunication. I blew it off assuming they were having a bad day. It did take thirty minutes for my food to cook, a little long just a little irritating that I had finished my water by the time my food came. They were going to charge me extra for sauce since my dish did not come with any so I said no. I mustered through eating plain fries. My biggest issue came with payment. If you’re like me and your card does not have the tap feature, do not come here. They only offer tap and a big recommendation I have for the restaurant is to either have that written somewhere on the menu or to tell people that before they order food. I went to pay and they kept trying to tap my card-despite me telling them it wouldn’t work and they said I’d have to pay cash since they don’t have the insert option. I told them I didn’t have any and the closest atm had an outrageous fee, so it did take a lot of Google translate to figure out payment and they got very frustrated with me. All in all the quality of the food and price combined with the experience was not enough for me to recommend this...

A disaster!

After we ordered the waiter casually mentioned that dishes might be missing because the chef doesn’t speak Greek or English, and apparently can’t read. Yes, really. So he just kind of guesses what to cook. My friend’s dish never showed up, but five minutes later the waiter swung by cheerfully to ask how everything was, as if nothing was wrong!!!

We asked for the bill, and instead of, you know, an actual bill, they just told us a random number. When we insisted on seeing it in writing, they said they “don’t do bills”—only give a receipt after you’ve paid. So we had to grab a menu and do the math ourselves like we were auditing the place.

They claimed the card machine wasn’t working and asked us to pay in cash. When we said we didn’t have any, they pushed us to go find an ATM nearby. The whole situation felt suspicious, as though they were trying to avoid card payments for tax reasons. After about ten minutes of back-and-forth, the card machine miraculously started working again.

Went there for dinner and I am so sorry to say that I am disappointed. The octopus was expensive for how it's served: just one tentacle served only with lettuce, not even tomato and onion. Disappointed. The waiter wasn't friendly, when I tried to ask how the octopus was served he interrupted me yelling "SALAAAAAD". My partner ordered chicken gyros and when he saw the plate, he thought "where is my pita bread?" Then we realised that the pita bread was hidden under the chicken and fries because it was totally burnt (like you can see in the photo). After all, the waiter, who was smoking inside the restaurant, asked me if I wanted to tip them which I replied "NO". You should be ashamed of smoking inside your restaurant and asking to be tipped after serving burnt food. Please do not waste your money here....
