The noodles here are cut by a "Chef Cui", a Chinese noodle cutting robot placed in the shop front which draws a small crowd outside. The restaurant was quite cramped when seated but it was clean, brightly lit, nicely decorated and had an open style kitchen. The portion sizes were on the small size so I recommend ordering a side or 2 with the meal. Prices for food were okay for the area:1,600-2,200 Ft for a main; 800 - 1,400 Ft for sides.
I went on the first day this place was open to the public and was excited to go here because "BiangBiang noodles" in China are quite famous for being very wide, very long and very spicy, and I thought this place might have a similar noodles but they were very different, like they were grated in a large grater but were soft and delicately flavoured.
The food was not vegan friendly and very limited for vegetarians. There was only 1 vegetarian noodle option on their menu, the vegan fried noodles, however it had quite a lot of scrambled egg in, so it was definitely not suitable for vegans. There were no vegetarian options for the soup, baozi (steamed buns) or dumplings. I went on the opening day and I hope that they change their menu soon to make it vegan friendly or consider using a better translator...
Read moreI wanted to love this. The good: freshly made biang biang noodles, great taste, how wonderful to have this in Budapest! The sauce that came with these was delicious. The bad: everything else was just mediocre. Mini baozi (the cashier lady’s recommendation!) microwaved within an inch of their lives, super dry and the filling was a tiny tight ball of meat rolling around in a much bigger hole in the middle of the dough. Xinjiang noodles were made fresh and had a good amount of lamb, but they were meant to be a bit spicy and instead just tasted really bland. Literally just of tomato and bell pepper which means they were basically like lecsó. Had to pay a bit extra for takeaway containers but a few of them started melting from the hot food by the time we got home 5 mins later. Cucumber salad was also nothing special. Considering it’s not cheap for Budapest, I guess I expected more. But I really appreciate that there are fresh noodles available at Oktogon and it’s possible we just caught them...
Read morePopped in here tonight for some food, I just wanted something hot fresh and healthy. Very comprehensive menu with lots of choice and you can see them cooking the food as you go in which is inspiring because it’s all fresh and cooked to order. I was greeted warmly, found a nice little table at the back which was cozy for me, I asked for water I was given the menu. I looked through the menu And realised I just wanted something that had chicken, noodles, fresh fresh, soy sauce were a little bit of spice. I explained this to the waitress who had a think and then pointed me to the menu with a suggestion, I ordered that! My food arrived very quickly and it’s exactly what I wanted, healthy, fresh, very hot, tasty, just what I needed!Very inexpensive and affordable, great surroundings very busy definitely go back again. Thank you very much...
