We spent 10 days here and overall our stay was great. Clean bathrooms, clean beds, mini fridge, and nice view of Jokai park. The shower took some getting used to because of the glass shower "door", but I got around that by having the door a little more over the inner part of the tub so that the water just hits the glass and falls into the tub and not on the floor.
Pros Location: A super quick walk to the Oktogon stop. There was also a Big Bus Tour stop that was on the other side of the main road (Andrassy útca). Lots of good food and shops nearby. Breakfast: A nice European spread of pastries breads and cheeses and some warm options typically consisting of eggs and oatmeal. Orange juice was a little odd. It might have been watered down, but orange juice anywhere else in Budapest is yummy. Cleanliness: Great. Beds made tight. Floors swept. Towels were fresh and clean. Side note: No shampoo and conditioner if you're used to hotels providing those, but we also didn't ask.
Cons Beds: My husband is 6'4 so he struggled a little with his feet hanging off the end lol. There were two beds instead of one large one, which I think is normal, but we weren't expecting it. (pro! He/She can't steal the blanket if you each have your own!) Breakfast: Some of the hot meal options seemed to be lacking in variety or "freshness" (like the obvious pre frozen meat balls or pre-frozen mixed veggies) But the consistency of the cold cuts and veggies made up for it. Internet: The 5th and 7th floor had internet routers. We were on the 6th floor. Needless to say reliability was choppy, but we had internet for the most part. I'm fairly sure the other floors had little to no issues.
All these cons are easy cons to get over and we did. Staying at hotel Medosz was worth it. We booked through tripmasters and would definitely recommend staying here for others. The staff speaks sufficient English if that is important to...
Read moreOne of the most expensive forms of accommodation in the city and the quality is severely lacking. The only thing this hotel has going for it is the staff.
The hotel required us to pay 100% of the bill before we even saw our room. Once we got to our room (which was much different than the advertised photos) I noticed spiders and cobwebs on the floor and ceiling, as well as a sticker with two stick figures having sex (promoting a brand or something else called “Just for Night”) proudly displayed under the coat hangers behind the door. This inspired me to check the mattress and when I did I found multiple large blood stains on both sides of the mattress.
I popped out onto the balcony (tiny and lacking security) to see three homeless men in the park below finishing up after taking a leak in the bush. They turned around, wieners still out and stumbled away while tucking them in.
I voiced my concerns with the receptionist and he gave us the room we thought we would get (one of the ones in the photos we saw). This is the only reason I’ve given 2 stars.
On our second night we were very nearly trapped in an elevator. It stopped moving between floors. I pressed the alarm and for whatever reason the elevator decided to try for one last hurrah and limped its decrepit self up to the floor above over 10 seconds. Did not use the elevator again, which meant every time we went in or out of our room it took 20 flights of stairs (we were on the 10th floor and each level had 2 flights with a switchback in...
Read moreIt's a nice hotel at a great central location and we enjoyed our stay there.
Staff is generally friendly, although the older staff at breakfast can be a bit grumpy. They should also be careful with deploying staff that has a cold, especially in a covid epidemic you could see the guests did not appreciate that.
Breakfast is okay. They offer a lot of variation but the quality of the food is average. Sometimes we skipped breakfast to get better pastries/bread at the Spar around the corner.
Cleaning is also okay. They clean the room daily and properly. There were some cobwebs in the room when we got there and towels are not always free of stains.
The airco functioned well and kept the room nice and cool with temperatures outside reaching 35 degrees. The airco is quite noisy especially the first 30-60 mins after starting it.
The view was disappointing. I added a picture of it. It's a matter of luck which view you get. I expected the superior rooms to at least have some view.
All in all the hotel provides a relatively good and cheap base to discover...
