A friend and I met at Bob’s Kitchen for lunch, drawn in by its British flair—and we’re so glad we did. Naturally, we both went with the classic Fish & Chips, and it did not disappoint. The fish was absolutely superb—crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, and served in a very generous portion. The chips were just as impressive, perfectly cooked and the ideal companion to the fish. We cleaned our plates despite the size! To top off an already great meal, our friendly waitress surprised us with a complimentary dessert each after we finished. A lovely touch that made the experience even more memorable. The service throughout was absolutely fabulous—warm, attentive, and welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, making it a great spot to enjoy a leisurely meal. Prices are very fair for the quality and portions offered. Everything about our lunch was simply heavenly. I most definitely recommend Bob’s Kitchen and will absolutely return again soon.

Bob's Kitchen in Budapest is an absolute gem. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home. The menu offers a delightful array of dishes that cater to various dietary preferences, including vegetarian and vegan options. Each plate is a culinary masterpiece, bursting with flavors and beautifully presented. The ingredients are fresh, locally sourced, and expertly cooked. The attention to detail is evident in every bite. Whether you're looking for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch, or a cozy dinner, Bob's Kitchen exceeds expectations. It's a must-visit culinary destination in Budapest.

Bob's Kitchen is my new favorite, when looking for a good breakfast in town. Starting from the friendly greeting you get, just by walking by, all the way until you pay, it's a all great. Compared to the area, this place is setup nicely, terrace and inner area as well. Staff are super nice, especially the owner, who really has a feel for running the operations. Items on the menu are brief, but just the right amount of options for everyone. Didn't have the time to go for the full English breakfast, but can definitely recommend the Eggs Benedict. Coffee is good, but could be better. Absolutely recommend for a great British breakfast experience!

Greasy, sloppy, flavourless chips, and the sausage roll was inedible, quite literally raw in the middle and tasted rancid, most likely gone off. Unclear how they got such great reviews so far, unless this was a one off incident.

Update, as the owner likes to argue with people as a comment under their review, and unfortunately there is no way for me to reply, so all I can do is update.

The owner said: "Erica, if you want to post 1 star reviews at least have the decency to post the full story. You have never been to our restaurant, this is an order you placed via Wolt. You ordered fish & chips and sausage roll & chips. These items were then prepared to order, I unfortunately have no control over how long it takes the driver to collect and deliver them, but I would very much doubt the sausage roll turned rancid in that time, but I will give you the benefit of doubt. You then complained to Wolt about the sausage roll & chips and they refunded you for the item, all of which you forgot to mention in your review. The fact that you still need to post a untrue review after being refunded probably says more about you than it does us."

It's Erika, not Erica, thank you very much. I never said I went to your restaurant. This is why I only rated the food, not the restaurant or the service, as I have never been there. This is the modern age, I ordered food via Wolt, which I did not mention because it is irrelevant. I had the food, so I am entitled to review the food. I also did not mention Wolt because they are not to blame. The food came very fast, and it was still piping hot when it arrived, both the fish and chips and the sausage roll, so I don't think the sausage roll went rancid during delivery (which I never claimed, when I said it tasted like it was gone off, I meant that either something went very wrong in the baking process, or the meat was kept in unsafe conditions/not refrigerated correctly prior to baking). Wolt was also kind enough to refund me for the issue, so all in all, Wolt did everything right. I did not mention that I ordered fish and chips as well because that at least was edible, which I also told Wolt. Was it flavourless as well? Yes. But it was cooked properly, and it was not rancid, so I thought I wouldn't complain about it, even though it wasn't particularly tasty. But hey, you wanted a full review, so there you go. You fail to mention that the sausage roll was raw. In my original comment, and to my complaint to Wolt as well, I said the meat was raw in the middle, and it tasted like it was expired. You chose to focus on the last part, and did not mention the raw meat part, most likely because you couldn't come up with a defense for that. I shared the pictures with Wolt, showing that the meat was pink, which it should not be. This is a sausage roll, not a beef Wellington... It should NOT be raw in the middle. I don't see how this an "untrue" review. This is my honest review of the food, based on what I ordered. Just because Wolt refunded me, does not mean that you didn't absolutely fumble making the sausage roll, it doesn't excuse the food being inedible. I have the right to review the food, and people have the right to see what my experience was.

In conclusion, maybe it would be a good idea to improve the quality of your food and take some lessons in food safety instead of arguing under every single negative review like children.

Hope this was insightful.

See you...

Great place, super nice service, but I ordered 2 things and they really weren't great.

  1. A salmon that was overcooked and dried out
  2. A steak that was just a terrible piece of meat. Extremely fatty and chewy. I've had that cut many times before, and I've never had it taste like that.

Really disappointing. Not sure if it was just a bad day for the kitchen.

ADDITION (since what happened was slightly mischaracterized by the owner):

  1. We arrived just before the kitchen closed - absolutely - it was a late meal - not sure if that implies the quality would be lower, but this is true.
  2. The order change from shrimp to salmon was made within a minute - it was simply a request, and I specifically said if it was already made the change wasn't at all necessary.
  3. My friend was asked if it was all okay, and he said it was fine. I personally wasn't asked. I also asked him later and he said he didn't like it at all - just doesn't like saying it.

When you ask what more you could have done, from a service point of view absolutely nothing - everything was great. The problem is a restaurant is judged by its food. I've specifically rated your service and ambience very high. But it was a really bad steak and an overcooked salmon - there's no changing this.

Additionally, I was just at dinner with a friend I was traveling with. I only mention it because the owner used the word "boyfriend" 3 times in his response - I'm not sure if that was meant to be an insult? But whatever, I found it strange, since I obviously never...

I'm an English expat living in Hungary, I was in Budapest this morning and I fancied a breakfast.

I popped into bobs kitchen and was not disappointed.

The bacon and eggs were cooked exactly to my liking, the puddings were some of the tastiest I have ever had, as were the mushrooms that were cooked and seasoned to perfection and all of the accompaniments were to my liking.

My only small criticism, and it is very small, the sausages were the thinner sausages (more irish style) which are not my personal preference. As a northerner, I prefer the closer to Cumberlands, the better. Although this is completely subjective to the individual as alot of people prefer the thinner sausages. Also, I think maybe a full rack (4 slices) of toast, considering English toast is much bigger than the small Hungarian would be more fitting to a big English breakfast. Again it's subjective! This absolutely does not detract from the overall experience and flavour.

The coffee and service was fantastic and the apple crumble gave me some good old heartwarming memories from back home.

Thanks for everything bobs kitchen, I will be back. Keep up the good work, I hope the fish and chips is a good follow up, as I'm itching to try it.

If google allowed me to give 4.6 stars out of 5 on all categories, I would have given but as a total score, I see it deserving of a 5, as a 4 does not do it justice.

Thanks again and kind regards

Craig
