I have no doubt this place serves good coffee. But, my experience was extremely disappointing.
The V60 coffee is the worst i have ever tasted in my life and I have tasted it all around europe at this point.
It might be just this one occasion where the barista didn't do much effort , but I think the bad quality is due to these factors: The coffee : they have some very good coffee beans from ethiopia and Colombia, but the barista told me they only sell them to customers, and they are not used for in place consumption. The coffee used for my v60 was didn't possess the floral and smooth necessities to be suited for a V60, i think this might be a big part of the issue.
the extraction: the coffee was served surprisingly cold for something that was served to me the moment it was finished. This suggests the extraction time took tooo long and the bitterness heavily flowed into the liquid . This could be due to the baristas and coffee owners not taking enough time to experiment with the coffee and find the optimal extraction time and steps, even with the coffee bean type not being 100% suitable for v60, the result could have been much better if the extraction was done carefully. Also, i am not sure if the filter cone was heated enough to maintain a balanced level of hear throughout the extraction.
the liquid quantity : for 20 g that the barista mentionned was used for this v60, the resulting coffee I was served was surprisingly a lot more than i expected. The water to coffee ratio might be something they need to reconsider , as too much water might have been used. I am not sure also of the quality of the water they use, but feom the taste of the coffee it might not be of good quality either.
Overall the place is very nice and i love the classical music and the vibe. The baristas are chill too. But unfortunately, my v60 experience was disappointing , and it left literal bitterness...
Read moreDiscover this coffee shop sooner than I did. I came here for quality coffee and space to sit down and get some work done; I got that and so much more. There's more than just single-origin espresso: you can enjoy different kinds of brews like French press, V60 pour over, and more, offering you variety in how you can enjoy the coffee you brew. There's more than just tables and chairs: there are sofas, bar seating tables in the event space, and really, just a wide range of places to sit and focus or relax with friends. The highlight, though, is definitely the people: the staff are so incredibly friendly and outgoing, and it's no surprise that you can find a diverse group of local and international regulars here alike. Huge thank you to Shaun, Letitia, Keith, Helena and so many others for making me feel right at home! If you are someone looking to practice English in a relaxed setting, you certainly couldn't ask for more. In my short visit to Budapest, I was made to feel like a local in one day with a friendly sanctuary to rest in the middle of the city. When I am next in town, you can bet that Selah is top of my list of places...
Read moreI rarely drink coffee outside my house becaue I am picky with coffee. But this place is a gem I found today that keeps up with some picky but profound stuff.
Many shops/baristas... dose coffee into an uncleaned portafilters, use left over milk that was made 5-10 mins ago, don't measure the dosage, use super dark roasted oily beans, grinder hopper getting all the sun available, use preground coffee etc.
Selah on the other hand cleans their portafilter between shots, flushes between shots and doesn't use leftover milk. They also use medium roasted beans which are flavorful - I had Etiopia (if you like that strong dark roasted stuff this ain't the place), and milk temp is good to taste the sweetness and can drink without a surprise (ie. HOLY COW that's hot kind of stuff).
So check it out and see if I am right or wrong.
My only complain is that there is no...
