The reviews that mention the swearing between staff members are true ; 15 seconds after I stepped into Kaffelandia I heard the waiter utter a curse word that is also very common in Slavic countries and Romania (it is a five letter word. The first letter is K, the third letter is R and the last letter is A).
The coffees are weak but they are priced around 20% cheaper than most cafes in the center of Budapest (flat white wasn't really a flat white. My cortado was watery and tasteless).
The eggs benedict Royal 👑 were good but one of them was almost raw.
They had yummy hollandaise sauce and good quality local bacon but the asparagus was almost certainly boiled yesterday (or the day before) and was given a light frying to make it palatable.
The bread used in the dish is a low quality supermarket bun. It is edible but not tasty.
The greens that accompanied it were not the sprouts and fresh looking greens in many of the reviews. It was mainly lettuce and a couple of unremarkable cherry tomatoes. This is disappointing because the main thing that brought me to kaffelandia is the photos of healthy leaves and beetroot.
The latter did show a modest presence in the dish - there were four or five very thin slivers of beetroot but by the look of them they were cut many days ago and left to retire in the fridge where they didn't age gracefully.
The terrace is lovely but the atmosphere is unfortunately spoiled by the constant banging of plates, utensils, cups and cutlery.
This noise came from the cafe and was so loud that I was surprised the dishes were not broken as a result.
I was seated some meters away on the terrace and the noise disturbed me, I can't fathom how those who were seated inside felt.
The waiter I mentioned at the start of my review is cocky and frankly akin to a caricature from a theatrical play.
I am used to such individuals in the food and beverage sector in Hungary but they are usually a milder version and he honestly made me laugh.
The girl is very friendly and I think she genuinely sympathises with the trials clients go through because of her colleague.
In solidarity with her suffering I added 8% in addition to the 10% service charge.
It was overall a funny experience but not one I...
Read moreAmazing food! Big portions, instagram breakfasts. Very tasty and great quality. Friendly English-speaking service. Cozy and modern place. Also terrasse tables are available.
update from 2024: memories from last visit made us booking a flat in that exact building to get breakfasts every morning in Kaffelandia… still a very good place, very friendly staff and food is well made 🧡
thank you Kaffelandia for stable quality and pleasant experience
update from 2024 next day: came in to get breakfast, google says they open at 7, but at 7:15 the staff told us they open at 7:30. the man has no idea what a good service is. very annoying man - made us wait 7 mins, then asked what we want. I said - menu please?! then he came back to get the order, listened to one person out of four, left to the cash desk, started putting the order on the computer, re-asked, then other guests at our table had to scream from the table to him what they want, bcs the man did not bother to come back to the table.
i ordered pancakes with SEASONAL FRUITS. please look on the last picture, where on earth 10 grams of shit quality berries are considered as a nice portion of fruits for pancakes? its...
Read moreWe have visited this coffee shop 3 times so far - twice for their delicious coffees and pastries - today for their incredible breakfast! Every time the staff have been warm and welcoming - chatty and have offered advice add friendly conversation. The wait staff I encountered spoke English well and were happy to communicate (shamefully I can't speak Hungarian). The cafe is always clean, beautifully decorated and the food is freshly made. The coffees are high quality, smooth, and the milk is perfectly heated - not burnt (flat white, and latte drinker). Now for the food - pastries are hand made. Perfect, crispy, filo pastry. Sweet and savoury options. The cooked breakfasts are to die for though! I had The Favourite Of Vegetarians - avocado on bread with pomegranate and feta (as an optional poached egg) beetroot sprouts as garnish and a fresh salad was served on the side. Hearty portions at a fair price. I will definitely be back again to try some other options! You can't go wrong by stopping here , whether just for coffee or for a...
