I have been fortunate to travel the world and eat wonderful dishes from many cuisines and I can say, without reservation, that Namgyal Momo is one of the best dining experiences I’ve had.
The restaurant is quaint and serves unpretentious but delicious and authentic Tibetan food. The proprietor and sole employee makes all dishes himself. There are typically 8 different offerings in a cafeteria-style display and you can choose several to be played for you.
Big and delicious momos (steamed dumplings), both meat and veggie, are available in the daytime and are limited to a daily batch of 300 which are usually sold out before dinner.
The best thing on their menu, the beef soup, is only available from 4-8pm. I can’t express with enough eloquence how mesmerizingly delicious this soup is. I’m eating it in summer and am blown away by it. I can only imagine how satisfying it would be on a cold, rainy Budapest winter night.
Just go there, eat, and let your tastebuds be grateful for the opportunity to create a permanent memory...

I came for lunch and dinner in the same day: the vegetables noodles were amazing and the grey cattle with eggplant was very rich and meaty with a really nice texture + flavour from the eggplant and deep umami flavour. Also my first time having Tibetan food. The owner is also so lovely; he told me his English wasn't great and so I helped him with some work he needed in English. After I left he refunded my card payment for my dinner. The prices themselves are also outstanding for the high quality of the food. Also a lovely seating area upstairs with no shoes. The tea is also delicious. I wish I stayed here longer so I could come back and try...
Read moreIn stark contrast to a place in the city claiming to be 'the most beautiful cafe in the world' ... This may well be just that, only understated, homely, and actually beautiful. A genuine hidden gem, this was some of the nicest food I have ever eaten, and even some locals may not grasp what they have. Maybe 10 dishes consisting of beef with various other components served on rice, or noodles. I opted for the 'hot' one and beef with beans and two momos, with the Tibetan butter tea. Every mouthful was a treat. The owner, a kind man, happy in his work, this was my most enjoyable meal in Budapest with many contenders. Worth seeking out, I couldn't recommend this...
