Looking for FANTASTIC HUNGARIAN FOOD??
Kismező is for you! I had my best meal in Budapest here!
It is difficult to find a place that did not succumb to the touristic taste and provides a wide-array of truly Hungarian dishes. Kismező is here to counterbalance this trend and you should definitely experience it!
Csabi, my host, was very helpful, kind, and very accommodating with my timeframe since I had a ballet performance to attend.
Chef Márton has definitely proven his qualities in this place!
My starter was an incredible game tartare, potato pavé, and truffle. It came with toasts and it is meant to be eaten in spreadable manner with toasts and with the garnish. Speaking of it, the garnish was indeed part of the dish, adding a great deal of texture and flavor profile.
The main course was a cooked-to-perfection venison stake with potato dumplings, caramelized onions, and blueberry. This is by far the best venison I have ever eaten! And when I say it was cooked to perfection, trust me and check the photos: slightly roasted in the outside but displaying the impeccably correct shade of pink in the inside. The flavors blended similarly to a great orchestra coming together to sound like one! To complete this perfect match, they offer you the right choice of wine. Please trust them. The leather-profiled, full-bodied, and thick-textured choice was PERFECT for this meal!
The environment is also great! They have a glass area that gives you the option to be outdoors without the inconveniences of a bad weather and people smoking next to you.
Reservations are encouraged but not necessary.
If you are going to a concert nearby, this is the best pre-concert spot due to its close distance to the venues and, of course, the fabulous food, atmosphere, and service!

Read moreThis restaurant's ambience and decor are great, and that's about it. The staff service and food served for the high price tag wasn't worth the cost and poor service. Firstly, charging almost 4000 Huf for three slices of cheese was disappointing. Secondly, I ordered a beef stew since it was a very cold night, but I was served a fancy cold roast instead. The roast and pasta were nice, but I wanted something warm to eat. Thirdly, the overly charged french fries with the burger were cold and soggy. The burgers were ok, but to get a burger based on specific dietary needs and religious norms, was a bitter experience. The lady server was very rude and didn't care for customer care. Fourthly, it is linked to the 3rd. The burger had bacon and raw tomatoes, and one friend can't eat pork due to religious norms, so pork can't touch any of the foods, the other friend can't eat raw tomatoes due to allergies. What was appalling is that my friends had to debate with the server to remove the toppings, which she refused first, and told my friends to pick out the bacon and tomato by themselves! Eventually, she agreed begrudgingly, but no paying client shouldn't have to beg the server to do the right thing, especially when the restaurant charges service fees and high prices for their food. If a fancy and high price tagged restaurant cannot take clients specific dietary restrictions seriously in 2024, they should think retraining their staff well and cooks to be aware there were clients with special needs. If they don't want their clients to feel unwelcomed and perhaps cause food poisoning, this establishment should reconsider customer policy again. I wouldn't recommend this place unless they train their staff properly and ensure food served are safe accordingly, especially to customer specific...
Read moreActually a 5-star place with great food, fun vibe, and well-intended service. I give it 3-stars for our silly male waiter with the childish attitude.
The backstory is that I came as 1 male with 4 females. And one of the girls made us late all day long (taking forever to arrive/leave at and from places). Once again, she was late and indecisive at the table.
So I was absolutely starving once we sat down and tried to put in my food order first. It’s no big deal really. We’re all friends, not a date. I’m hungry so I want to order first and the girls can take as long as they want to read through the menu. None of the girls cared.
But nope, this waiter lectures that a man should always wait for ladies to order. So he disappears from the table for 15mins, almost seeming as if to spite me personally for what he thought was ungentleman-like behavior.
Then I knew it was personal for sure when he poured the wine into everyone’s glass but mine. And then did it again when we ordered a second bottle of wine. It’s so small and yet everybody noticed it. Yeah, sorry buddy. I don’t appreciate the jerk judging people he doesn’t know and trying to punish them with...
