We visited this café two days in a row, because the breakfast was tasty and we enjoyed it the first time. Unfortunately, the second visit completely ruined the impression.
On our way to the café, we bought coffee at Starbucks. When we arrived, we still had a little left, but we immediately sat down and placed our order for three dishes, because we already knew what we wanted from the day before. The waitress told us we were not allowed to keep the Starbucks cups on the table. We respected that, removed them, and kept them in our hands while finishing the coffee.
After about five minutes, she came back and told us that we were not allowed to sit at their table at all while holding another drink, even though we had already ordered. She literally forced us to stand up and wait for our food standing next to the table. This was incredibly rude and shocking for me, because we were already paying customers. I have never experienced something like this anywhere else in the world.
When the food arrived, the waitress put the plates on the table without a single word — no “enjoy your meal,” no “sorry for the inconvenience,” absolutely nothing. The service charge of 600 HUF per dish (which is automatically added) felt completely unfair, as there was no service at all. When I asked not to pay for the service, the waitress insisted it was mandatory and refused any discussion.
I asked her name several times, as she was not wearing a badge, but she ignored me completely. This made the situation even worse. The girl had dark hair, glasses, and a slim build — I hope the management can identify who she is, because her behavior ruins the reputation of this place.
To be clear: the food itself was good, but the way we were treated as customers — being asked to stand up while waiting for our order, being ignored when asking for her name, and being charged for “service” that was absolutely not provided — was extremely disappointing and disrespectful. This left me with a very bad impression of the café, especially since it was right before my flight from Budapest.
I sincerely hope the management takes this...

I recently visited Nicaragua Café, located on Bartók Béla Boulevard, not far from the beautiful Gellért Spa, and I must say, it was a delightful experience! The place is incredibly cozy, with beautiful decor that adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere.
The service was excellent—friendly and attentive, making the visit even more enjoyable. I’m a big fan of Oatly vegan plant milk, so I was thrilled to see they offer it with their delicious coffee. It’s always a treat to find places that cater to different dietary preferences.
I ordered the Nicaragua Plate, which included grilled cheese, bacon, fresh salad, and a tasty combination of beans with rice done in a lovely South American style. The flavours were spot on, and everything was fresh and well-prepared.
While the prices are quite reasonable if you’re visiting from abroad, they might be a tad on the higher side for those living in Budapest on a local salary. However, considering the quality of the food, the service, and the overall experience, I’d say it’s worth every forint.
If you’re in the area, I highly recommend stopping by Nicaragua Café for a cozy and delicious...
Read moreWe had a lovely brunch at Nicaragua Cafe Brunch Bar and would definitely recommend it. The menu offers a great variety of options – from classic eggs and avocado toast to tofu dishes and more. Whether you're vegetarian, vegan, or just into fresh, tasty food, there’s something for you. The portions were just right and everything we ordered was flavorful and well-prepared.
They also have an impressive selection of drinks. From coffees and fresh lemonades to more unique options, it’s clear they put effort into offering more than the basics. We especially liked that you could pair your meal with something refreshing without it feeling too heavy.
We chose to sit on the terrace, which was a great choice. It was shaded and quiet, offering a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy our food and chat. It didn’t feel crowded or noisy, which can be rare for brunch spots. Indoor seating is also available and looks cozy.
The service was friendly and the overall vibe of the place was warm and welcoming. Everything felt well thought out without being overdone. All in all, a very good experience. Great food, great ambiance – we’ll...
