Nice location, but service left a sour taste

We visited this restaurant on our last day in the city. The location is lovely, and the service was very fast—which we appreciated. However, the experience was unfortunately let down by the attitude of the waitress who served us.

While the food was fine, it was noticeably more expensive than similar meals we’ve had elsewhere nearby. That might have been easier to overlook had the service felt more welcoming.

When our fries were brought to the table, I politely asked for an extra plate (which was provided), and then realised I’d forgotten to ask for ketchup. When I asked for some, the waitress responded quite abruptly, saying, “That’s why I asked you if you wanted it.” We hadn’t realised she had—possibly we misunderstood her question, thinking she was asking if we wanted any extra sides. In English, we’d usually call things like ketchup “sauces” or “accompaniments,” so perhaps that led to the confusion.

I apologised and explained that I hadn’t realised, but her tone remained curt. She asked again, “Well would you like it or not?” and brought it over in a clear huff. I said thank you, but there was no acknowledgment. Perhaps she was just having a bad day, but she seemed cold toward other customers too—though particularly so with us.

In a restaurant located in a prime tourist area, where miscommunication is bound to happen from time to time, a little patience and kindness can really go a long way. This interaction unfortunately soured what had been a really lovely final day...

Unfortunate that I have to give this place a low rating because I was excited to eat here, but my experience today was inexcusable. Ate here with my wife, and the food was okay in my honest opinion. Nothing special but it was pretty satisfying. In terms of atmosphere, there was trash everywhere on the tables, which made it kind of hard to eat with all of it around us. It was bearable but definitely not preferred. Now onto my main complaint, which was the service. When we finished our food and proceeded to put our trash along with the other trash near our table so I could help the staff gather it up, a very rude waitress bolted over to me and proceeded to tell me “The bin is over there.” No smile at all, no sign of welcome. All I felt was complete coldness when I was just trying to help out. I get the job may be demanding for her, but it was not my fault at all people were putting their trash everywhere. I work in a very demanding field as an ICU nurse, and I get work can get crazy, but if I’m asked to put a smile on my face when people around me are dying all the time and to be nice to those around me on top of that, I think I should be able to at least feel some sense of welcome as well despite the place’s work and conditions. Overall, the food was okay and the atmosphere was alright, but if you would like to feel welcome in terms of service, I think it would be best to find someplace else to eat if you want to have a good time on...

There is a cook (small guy with beard and kinda white hair I think) there which should be fired immediately. The most rude person we have met in years. Unbelievably arrogant and unfriendly behaviour towards customers when he is handing out the food. I asked if he could put the food in a box as we took it on a walk (we didnt want to eat there) and he just rolls his eyes grabs the package and slams it on the counter and leaves. I had to take the food myself and put it inside the package, all people waiting including us couldnt believe it. He was also extremely rude to people before us, he doesnt speak just rolls eyes if you ask him a single question. Crazy. Fire this guy immediately it completely destroys the reputation of your restaurant and this man has certainly spoiled many peoples afternoon already. Also this guy uses his bare hands making the food and goes with the hand in between in his beard and mouth and doesnt clean it. It was disgusting. Atmosphere in general between collegues there also seemed at...

Absolutely amazing spot in Budapest! I can highly recommend Bistro Pick & Lángos to anyone visiting the city — whether you’re here for a weekend or a longer stay, this place is a must-visit. The food is outstanding. I had the best pork belly I’ve had in years — perfectly cooked, full of flavor, just incredible. I also tried their lángos topped with pick salami, cheese, and cream… absolutely delicious! Their cocktails are top-notch, and the wine list is impressive, with a wide selection of Hungarian red wines that are definitely worth trying. To top it all off, the view of the Parliament building is simply breathtaking — it adds so much to the whole experience. And the staff? Absolutely lovely — friendly, welcoming, and genuinely warm. You feel taken care of from the moment you arrive. If you’re in Budapest, don’t miss this gem. It’s the full package and a place I’ll definitely be coming back to.

My guide on the walking tour recommended this place, the recommendation came with a card, that allowed for one free beer with my meal, which was great. The service is really good, I came here twice, and service was great on both times. The first time I had goulash with a delicious warm bread and on the second time the famous “chicken paprika”, what a sad non interesting dish 😅 The coffee was also very good. The best for me was really the service, on my first visit I had no idea I had a free beer because of the card, I just wanted a warm soup to dry up, but my waitress saw me putting the card away and let me know about the beer or other beverage, this was outstanding service. I liked so much I returned ☺️ I don’t know if it is in all restaurants, but I’ve always paid a service tax, around 5% in all the restaurants I went so make sure to take that into consideration

If you want your waiter to forget about you - it is a great place to be. We ordered langos( that is considered to be street food and is done in less than 5 min at the stand), chicken soup, which is called “rich”, but in my personal option is just chicken broth with a couple of pieces on noodles and chicken and undercooked veggies; a ceaser salad with prawns( picture attached). I never knew that Ceaser comes with tomato sauce, now I know. And all of that was forgotten by our waiter and we had to wait 40 minutes and even had to ask another waiter where our food was. It appeared that the kitchen got our order 30 minutes later than the actual order and it explains why we waited for 40 minutes and why other lucky people got their food much earlier. Because of that I would not recommend. The attitude of the staff is awful for a touristy place like that.
