There’s a new spot in town, and it definitely makes a strong first impression. The atmosphere speaks for itself—as seen in the photos—with a sleek, modern design featuring copper-style tables and eye-catching wall art. It’s a visually appealing and well-thought-out space.
The staff were kind and welcoming, though a bit inexperienced, which is understandable for a newly opened restaurant. The soundtrack featured a nostalgic mix of Queen, ABBA, and Michael Jackson—something that’s likely to appeal to a wide audience.
As for the food, it was pleasantly surprising. We tried the traditional lángos in three versions: the Hungarian classic, the four-cheese, and the chicken paprikash. Each portion was incredibly generous—easily enough to serve two people. However, one downside was the presentation: the lángos were served on paper plates, which quickly became soggy and made the meal less enjoyable. A sturdier serving method would definitely enhance the overall experience.
We paid about €16 per person, which felt slightly expensive considering lángos is typically Hungarian street food. While the overall experience was enjoyable, I probably wouldn’t return during the same trip.
A special mention goes to the bathrooms—something I don’t usually comment on—but they had a distinct and stylish design that...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience at Retro Lángos in Budapest, mainly due to one staff member, Zoli.
Our visit began with a minor issue: we found a hair in one of our lángos. The staff replaced it quickly and even offered a 10% discount later on, which we appreciated. However, things quickly escalated when it came time to pay.
From the very beginning, we asked to split the bill. This “waiter” reacted by shouting at us, refusing our request, and behaving in a rude and unprofessional manner. When another staff member stepped in to help because she noticed we were struggling, he immediately tried to micromanage her instead of letting her assist us properly. This made the experience even more uncomfortable and stressful.
Thankfully, we were eventually able to speak with the manager, who was kind, understanding, and professional. Her response helped somewhat, but the negative impact of this “waiter’s” behaviour overshadowed the visit.
Although Retro Lángos is known for its location and street food, the extremely poor service made it impossible to enjoy our meal. Until serious improvements are made in staff conduct and customer care, we cannot recommend...
Read moreI had a great experience at Retro Lángos in Budapest. It’s a small street food stand located near the city center, and it’s easy to see why it’s so popular — the food is absolutely delicious. I tried the classic lángos with sour cream and cheese, and it was everything I hoped for. The dough was freshly fried, crispy on the outside and soft inside, with the perfect balance of flavors. They’re generous with the toppings too, which makes it very filling and satisfying.
There was quite a bit of a crowd when I arrived, which is usually a good sign. I had to wait around 15 minutes, but the line moved quickly and the staff worked efficiently. Despite the rush, the service was friendly and professional.
What I also appreciated was the variety of options on the menu. You can go traditional or try some more creative combinations with ham, sausages, or even sweet versions. Prices are very reasonable for the portion size and quality.
If you’re visiting Budapest and want to try something authentically Hungarian, Retro Lángos is definitely worth the stop. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait — but it’s...
