Icebox Cafe Miami, I wanted to be wowed. Instead, I was left wondering if this was a prank.

Let’s start with the packaging, or lack thereof. The cake was shipped in a flimsy, oversized box with no internal support, no cake ring, and the whole thing was wrapped in plastic wrap—yes, like something you’d pick up in the freezer section at your local grocery store. Not exactly the elegant, specialty presentation one expects from a bakery of your reputation.

To make matters worse, the cake arrived after 10 PM and clearly had a rough journey—it was delivered on its side, completely smooshed. A sad, sideways, squashed mess. This wasn’t a cake; it was a crime scene.

Now… let’s talk taste. Or lack thereof.

The cheesecake layer was SOUR. And not in a tangy, New York-style kind of way—in a “something’s gone wrong” kind of way. The entire thing was barely touched. Not a single guest went back for seconds. In fact, most spit it out. That’s how bad it was.

I had such high hopes for this to be a showstopper dessert. Instead, it became the punchline of the evening. For a premium price, I received a product that was poorly packaged, questionably fresh, and genuinely inedible.

Icebox Cafe, I’ve seen you featured in articles, praised by foodies, and tagged in dreamy Instagram photos. Unfortunately, what showed up at my door was a total disaster—both in form and flavor.

Awful almond croissant and average pizza. Was there today at 8am. Very nice waitress, but had to return the almond croissant. Dry and IMO clearly not fresh from this morning. Dry inside, of course I could have asked it to be warmed up but it would have still been a non fresh croissant to me. The waitress insisted that it was delivered this morning from Miami Ice Box factory. I have no doubt on this but to state they were made this morning is I think completely wrong. Great service, great food and a quick convenient place to eat. I had about 25 minutes left on my layover and this was right across from the gate. The line was moving quick and when I ordered, I got the bacon egg and cheese biscuit and a chocolate muffin. The bacon egg and cheese biscuit was great, flavorful and it was a very good size.
