Minus 1 STAR for service which would have been 5 (I know, you asking 🤷🏻‍♂️). Like most reviews pointing out the 18% tip added to your bill as a SUGGESTION, I decided to practice my right to decrease the tip as indicated at the bottom of the bill (see picture). I did this because if anyone dictates my finances, it would be me and not a restaurant. Nothing wrong with the suggestion, however there was no alternative space to enter your own decided tip. I felt like it was enforced on me and oh boy was I right. The bill was $81.77 + $13.62 (18% tip) = $95.39. I paid in cash and decided to decrease the tip with a new total of $92. Gave the waitress the money and seconds later she return saying I gave her $92 instead of $95.39. I pointed out that the bill indicates it was a suggestion hence I decided otherwise. She asked me with an annoyed tone of voice if there was something wrong with her service. I told her Im South African and our restaurants add a tip section and leave it blank for the customer to decide. Aggressively she told me "well you in the United States now". REALLY? CARLA you are a disgrace and should get kicked out of this industry. My money, my decision!

Average airport food with hidden charges wouldn’t recommend I tried the Caribbean seafood combo at this seafood restaurant in the Miami airport. The waiter said it was $24 and asked if I wanted potato or sweet potato no mention that this choice would affect a little the price. At checkout, the price was slightly higher, which they should’ve made clear upfront. The spicy sauce wasn’t spicy at all (though the flavor was okay), and the shrimp was soft, not very fresh. Overall, the food was fair nothing impressive, just typical airport-level quality and a bit overpriced. Also, I asked for a glass of water and was told they only offer bottled water, which I find disappointing. On top of that, the bill included a suggested 18% service charge automatically something I personally don’t appreciate when service is just average. Wouldn’t return

Check your bill. They automatically add an 18% tip to your total and run your card with that total. On the copy you sign, you can either add or subtract from that tip total. I think they're banking on the fact that people won't notice and end up double-tipping or that they feel too uncomfortable to adjust it down if they have a poor experience. My friend ordered a slice of key lime pie. It was served with a disposable set of plastic utensils; not sure if that's what everyone gets with their meals, but it seems like it would be hard to eat some of the menu items with just a plastic fork. The pie wasn't great, like something you could pick up at the grocery store. I ordered a cocktail, which was tasty. The cocktails were around $15, and adding a second shot was an extra $6. There was also bottled water for purchase.

This place brings the unhurried pace of the islands to the bustle and rush of the airport. If you've got an hour or two to kill while at MIA, this is a great place to while away the time. The staff will not pressure you by foisting menus on you or pestering you for your order, but rather will wait politely within view, chatting in groups of two or three until you walk over to give them your order.

The kitchen staff is similarly relaxed, and you should have plenty of time for a few drinks before your food is ready. Make sure to check in with your server regularly on the progress of your order, since the kitchen staff is also quite polite with their colleagues and will not interrupt the waiters' conversations with announcements of your order being ready.

If you catch your meal fresh off the grill or out of the fryer, you'll find it delicious, with fresh ingredients, made with obvious pride and care.

The relaxed hospitable attitude of The Islander continues until the very end. If you want your check, make sure to be proactive in asking for it. The staff will certainly not rush you out with the typical American waiters' passive-aggresive, "Here's your check. I'll take that whenever you're ready". Rather, they will wait for you to request your check, sometimes repeatedly, and still give you plenty of time to finish your dessert or coffee before bringing your credit card receipt for...
