First and foremost I would like to apologize, I guess…I totally understand if you don’t like your job, or you are having a bad day, or you just don’t want to be recorded. I worked in hospitality for years…I totally get it. That being said…you work in a touristic area, you know that you will be exposed to people you might not be fond of, but…when a customer asks for recommendations about your food, you don’t just say “whatever you feel like”. That’s number one. Number two, as a tourist, if I see something I don’t see often, like your “ONLY ROLLED ICE CREAM IN ICELAND”, I will pull my phone out, and record the process. Not to annoy or make someone uncomfortable, but because I thought the process was clever, and because of how you advertise your product as “unique”. Again…I’m sorry for not asking for permission, I personally didn’t think any of it. As I started recording (just the hands and the product preparation), not his “model-like features” (100% sarcasm). But that wasn’t the problem, the problem was, he waited til’ the end and he said “you’re from the US?” Which we answered “yes” (thinking he would start a casual conversation), without hesitation he said “because here, and in Europe, we ask for consent. Because of privacy” in a non-friendly tone…We get it. My wife stopped recording, we apologized, showed him we erased the video, not even a “thank you for understanding”. There are ways of asking people not to do something, maybe a sign, or even say something before we start videoing… no harm, no foul…right? It is a shame we’ve already paid for the ice cream, or we would’ve walked away. The ice cream was regular ice cream, nothing extraordinary, the process was cool, the store was small, the service…HORRIBLE! Someone else at the store received his “friendly” treatment as we were ready to leave. I could pick apart each of the things I saw that most likely would not fly with Icelandic standards for food handling…but I don’t think that will help anyone. In retrospective, I personally think we will both learn from this…moving forward, we will ask if it is ok to record someone’s hands, so thank you for the lesson. And you will get a review that most likely will put a ding on your overall score. P.S: If you want a mind-blowing snack I would recommend walking an extra block, and getting the amazing fried dough balls with delicious sauces/toppings (pro-tip add a scoop of ice cream), very friendly staff, and proud of their business,...
Read moreIt's cute but admittedly a bit disorganized. They really don't have enough staff for what they serve, which takes a bit more time than just scooping ice cream. I got a bubble waffle with ice cream. It was a tasty sugar bomb. However, they brought it to me and said they forgot half of my ice cream (it was two flavors) and asked if I wanted them to remake it. I was a bit confused at the situation and had already waited a bit, so I just took it. They really shouldn't have served it to me without what I paid for, that left a bad taste in my mouth. All in all, I can't really rate the ice cream as I didn't have much so the waffle overpowered it. My partner had a ton of ice cream and they...
Read moreThe food and hot chocolate were good (not great) and didn't live up to the charm, convenience, awesome 80s soundtrack or absurdly high prices. It was very crowded and hectic when we went late on a Monday night, and there was confusion between the person taking our order and the one who rang us up - we watched as another group was surprised that they got charged for an extra ice cream they didn't order. We ended up getting charged extra for toppings and such that should've been included already - ended up paying 5,000 Krona for one ice cream, one waffle and one hot chocolate. The staff was too stressed to try to fix this afterward, so we paid our penance to the travel gods...
