Great food but felt mistreated by the staff. I first ordered to take away because saw stairs at the main entrance, but when I noticed there was an accessible way I asked if I could come in with a stroller and the guy kept saying I had a take away and I wasn’t understanding what was the problem. Then someone interfered and said there was an extra fee to sit in and I said I’d pay (because seemed comfy to be with a baby). I said sorry for the confusion bc I didn’t know about this, they looked mad at me and started calculating how much I had to pay and I went outside to get my baby - I paid 1900 fee for a 3 thousand something order. The door was locked and I had to come back again to ask for someone to open, when we finally entered the lady was rude to me because I was going to a bad table with the stroller - I fully understood and moved immediately. When we finally sit I had to keep getting up to get my coffee, to ask for a plate, to get a refill, they never brought the milk I asked for, and absolutely nobody would come to our table even though it wasn’t busy at all - there were just 2 other tables taken in the house. So basically I didn’t have any table service that I expensively paid for. I first felt sorry for the confusion bc I work in the service industry myself and know how annoying these little changes can be and I absolutely didn’t want to be an extra load on the staff, but every single interaction I had in there was horrible. I wouldn’t got furious if it was busy or if I didn’t have a baby with me, but due to the circumstances I felt really mistreated and even though I loved the food - as a resident - I will never come back. Very unfriendly place to come...

Inconsistent but sometimes very good bakes. And some different items compared to what you get elsewhere. Frustrating that they don’t open earlier (8 is quite late for a proper bakery as everyone is well on their way to school or work, so mainly tourists in the morning) and they often don’t open on time.

Most importantly, sometimes the bakes have been sitting around all day. So a broccoli croissant or kleina especially may be good right out of the oven or fryer, but five hours later it’s a claggy mess. So make sure to ask for what’s fresh out of the oven.

And be prepared for the same bakes to change from day to day. One day the choc croissants are as big as your head and the next they belong on a dollhouse plate. But if you go in without any notions about what you want (and it’s not too early or late in the day), you can probably find something very good. The savory viennoiseries like the broc croissant and the tomato stracchino croissant are very good fresh and something unique for this bakery (they seem to be playing with a lot of these kinds of bakes). The more traditional Icelandic bakes (kleina and vínarbrauð) are hit or miss. The kleina we had was about 30 min out of the fryer and still had some crunch. The vínarbrauð was passable, but overpriced and nothing special compared to the masterpiece you can get up the road at Sandholt (if they're haven't sold out for the day).

Hopefully some of these problems are just opening kinks they will work them out. And hopefully they will being opening before 8am. That’s far too late for a bakery that locals can actually use. That said, it’s great to have a bakery back on...

One of the worst experiences I’ve had, if not the worst.

Staff were extremely rude! We were basically expelled from the restaurant because of a simple question.

Went there to celebrate my wife’s birthday and our last night in Iceland. I had bought one of my wife’s favorite wines and brought it with us in a bag. When we arrived I asked if they worked with a “cork fee” to drink our own wine, and if not it was totally ok, I’d buy their wine (didn’t even took the wine out of the bag). To my surprise the server got extremely upset right away with the question, told me that he travelled all around the world and never heard of a “cork fee”. I said it was normal in other places, but it was ok, I wouldn’t drink our wine and told him that it was only a question. After we sat he didn’t bring us menus until I asked for it, so I asked him why he got so upset literally with just a question. At this point he was very aggressive and his answer was that it was a stupid question and he couldn’t understand it. We were cleared not welcomed there anymore, so we left the restaurant right away.

Being a staff member of a Pizza and Wine place, perhaps he should educate himself better about the industry. Having worked and dined at restaurants in several countries (including Michelin star restaurants), I never seen a place that the staff didn’t know what a “cork fee” was. Most good restaurants accept it, but not all of them, which is ok. What is not ok is to be extremely rude to a customer just for...

Baka Baka is a cozy, stylish gem in the heart of Reykjavík that absolutely delivered one of our favorite meals of the trip. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with friendly staff and a menu that’s both creative and comforting. We ordered the fried goat cheese salad and the Bianca mushroom pizza, and both were outstanding. The salad was beautifully plated and bursting with flavor. The warm, crispy goat cheese was rich and creamy inside, perfectly balanced by fresh greens, sweet apple slices, candied walnuts, and a light vinaigrette. Every bite had the ideal mix of texture—crunchy, creamy, crisp—and flavor—savory, sweet, and tangy. The Bianca mushroom pizza was just as impressive. It came on a thin, golden crust that was crisp on the outside and chewy inside—clearly baked with care. Instead of a tomato base, the Bianca featured a delicate white sauce, melted mozzarella, and an earthy, generous layer of oyster mushrooms. It was rich but not heavy, with a wonderful balance of flavors that let each ingredient shine. Baka Baka combines casual charm with truly elevated food. Everything felt thoughtful and well-executed. We left completely satisfied and will absolutely be returning on our next visit to Reykjavík.

Let’s talk about the pizza at this humble spot that morphs from bakery to pizza spot late afternoon. One word: INSANE (in the best way). A case study of just a few top notch ingredients, perfectly executed, and elevated to something truly special. We tried the Nduja and the Bianco pizzas as well as the pasta special which was pappardelle with bolognese. The pizza crusts were perfectly thin, charred, chewy, and pillowy in all the right places. The tomato sauce deeply flavorful. Blobs of Nduja added pops of richness and spice. Bianco pizza was very unique with a rich white sauce, thin enoki/oyster mushrooms, and truffle shavings on top. While I’m not Italian, let’s just say I’ve had some great pies in my life. This cracks my top 10. The pasta was unfortunately a bit over salted for my taste, but the ingredients were top notch including the thin pasta ribbons and sauce. Service was informal and not overly fussy. If you’re visiting and want an alternative to Icelandic food, I can highly recommend it. From the crowd during our visit it’s clear that it’s a local favorite for pizza.
