After 30 minutes and 2,000 steps of indecisiveness from my girlfriend, we ended up agreeing to eat here for dinner. I don't often eat Mexican food but I do love big, bold flavours and textures. I ordered the chicken burrito, as I felt the prices were a little steep for x3 tacos. I was a little nervous about splashing the cash for just a burrito, but when it arrived, it was much bigger than I had expected and came with Tortilla chips. When it was sat in front of me, I definitely felt like I was getting good value for money. When I think Burrito, I think wrapping your hands around it and eating it. When it arrived, it was laid elegantly on the plate and had been covered with some sort of sauce. I wouldn't say I've ever eaten a burrito with a knife and fork, but it really did taste amazing, so I really can't complain.
My girlfriend ordered the x3 special fried tacos. She said they tasted nice, but found them hard to eat as they just fell apart as you tried to cut into them. Partly her fault as she knew they were fried when she ordered them. The main gripe from her was the 'salsa' was a sauce. I thought the salsa sauce tasted great, but when you think of Salsa, you do rightly think of traditional salsa with chopped tomatoes, red onions, herbs, etc. Again, I enjoyed the Salsa sauce, it just wasn't what either of us were expecting to come out. I would happily eat here again, and order that burrito again. My partner would also visit again, but would just choose something else from the menu. A lovely little touch is all the Tortilla chips were clearly homemade from Tortilla wraps, instead of bagged Tortilla chips. I liked this touch and it all just felt a little more...
Read moreI’ve taken my kids here twice. Food is good and the atmosphere is lovely. First time around I was really excited that we’d found our go-to restaurant (we’ve been on the hunt for good Mexican food since moving back from the US). Tonight the service we received was so rude that it left me in tears and I don’t think I can stomach going back to this place. Yes, I’m being overly dramatic - nobody should be this upset over terrible service, especially not in Iceland where the bar is not high to begin with. Yes, I could have anticipated that the tacos I ordered for my kids might be insanely spicy even though 1. they weren’t last time around, 2. they were quite obviously being ordered for kids who tend to be more sensitive to heat (yes, rude waiter, I know that your kid loves spicy food but I wasn’t in fact trying to feed your kid) and 3. the menu doesn’t say anything about spice level. Yes, I could have just ignored the asshole waiter with the giant chip on his shoulder. But it’s the night before Christmas, I’m tired and worn out, and of all the places in downtown Reykjavík, this is the one I wanted to come to tonight to relax for an hour and have a nice time with my family. Mission not...
Read moreI wish I could give zero stars. This was without doubt the worst experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. We walked in and were ignored by the staff, before eventually being acknowledged to be reluctantly shown to a table. The menu seemed basic but encouraging if done well, if only. We placed our order, and it is no exaggeration to say the food was at our table within a minute. While this may seem like a good thing, it was far from it. Our food had clearly been cooked a long time before and been left to sit under a hot lamp, but hot it was not. The food was stone cold, tasteless, and made with awful ingredients. It was simply the worst meal I’ve ever tasted, made even more offensive by the astronomical cost. My partner and I sat clearly not eating our food, and at no point did the staff come over to ask how our meal was, or why we weren’t eating the food. They were rude, unhelpful, neglectful and completely unprofessional. It is such a shame to have spent our first evening in Iceland in a...
