Have you heard of Chukka gimbaps? Well they're basically Korean sushis very much like the Japanese ones. This restaurant in Indiranagar has opened up a JapaneseXChinese restaurant and serve some of the most delicious sushis I've had in a while.
To begin with, I tried a very interesting tea that is known as monkey picked oolong tea - served in the finest of Japanese teapots, the tea is handpicked by monkeys. Isn't that something you don't get to hear often?
Followed it with grilled mock duck meat - you wouldn't know it is not duck, I took a piece off the plate and it looked like duck meat with skin! How intriguing is that? It is enhanced with sweet and salted plums, peanuts and aragula and stands vegan!
Followed it with crispy fried bombay duck, popularly known as bummalo, it is a lizard fish from the Maharashtrian coasts in the Lakshwadeep sea. It was topped with Togarashi, a spicy powdered assortment of dried chilli peppers , orange peel, sesame seeds, Japanese pepper, ginger and seaweed. Adding this flavorful seasoning to the bombay duck is one of the best things that has helped it spice up.
Also had the soy chicken on bone, sticky soy on charred chicken with skin topped off with pickled ginger.
Then there was some delicious char grilled pork belly with apple sauce - one of the best well marinated and tender pork bellies I've had this year.
And it was absolutely blissful to have attended a live gimbap making session and a hands on experience on the same.
The entire dining was made unforgettable by the Velvet Crunch dessert which was a somewhat Japanese mousse coated with some red velvet icing. Can't wait to go back for...
Read moreCame to Dofu on a Saturday for a late lunch to try out their tteokbokki, unfortunately all their options involved dairy of some form as had to pass being lactose intolerant. We didn't book a table and the lunch hour crowd meant we were waiting over half hour for a table. Unfortunately there was no proper system in place to deal with the crowd, another duo cut ahead in the waiting line despite us being informed we'd be the next ones seated. We got the prawn and edamame mandu, the Chicken Katsu Donburi, Kare-Pan and Hong Kong Pork Buns. The Donburi was disappointing and prepared with regular long grained white rice and pretty lackluster. The stuffed buns and mandu saved the day. The Kare-Pan which is breadcrumbs coated fried bun with chicken filling on the inside was crunchy on the outside and warm and fluffy on the inside with a wonderful filling. The Hong Kong Pork bun was a suprise, it came with a biscuit baked on the bun. With each bite you got a bit of biscuit, bit of filling and a bit of bun which went together exquisitely. The prawn and edamame mandu was another hit while a little on the pricey side given the number of the mandu served. The servers and staff were unavailable most times, making it difficult to place an order or request anything at the table. If you're planning to go on a weekend be sure...

We tried a number of BOBA BASED MOCKTAILS and liked the one with the lemon extract. The CHICKEN FRIED BUN was a small serving but had a memorable taste. The KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN WITH YUM YUM SAUCE was the clear winner amongst all the dishes that we tried as it was finger lickin' good. We tried both the veg and non-veg variants of the sushi and preferred the the TUNA FISH SUSHI. The SHITAKE MUSHROOM POT STICKERS were not upto the mark for my taste buds, although one of my friends liked them. For me, the umami taste got a bit confusing at some point. We also tried the WET & DRY RAMEN BOWL and preferred the wet one. Both had their strengths but the holistic experience of the ramen was enjoyed with the soup only. We ended our meal with the CHIFFON CHEESECAKE which was topped with 2 kinds of boba pearls.
The staff was welcoming and courteous but could definitely have more knowledge about the items on the menu as authentic Asian food is not extremely common amongst the Indian crowd. The absence of more than 4 mocktails on the menu also made the experience a bit sour. May be the management can make...
