Only old timers remember this precious event of inauguration of this beautiful restaurant the first of this type of DARSHINI STYLE in Bangalore. On inaugural day there was mad rush of eaters spilling over to the foot path with blocking of the entrance to DV Gundappa Road from Netkalappa BMTC bus stop. A new business model never attempted by anybody anywhere but bold one. Self service, no sitting arrangement, prepayment, hot, steaming, sumptuous, tasty pure vegetarian menu with persons licking their fingers after eating fully satisfied. Reasonable rates for oddly, vada, Masala Dosa, Rava Dosa, onion Uthappam, Rava Iddly, poori, sagu, Palav, veg biriyani, dahi Vada, mammon, chutney, sambar, butter, ghee, spoon & forks food supplied on plates with banana leaf laid for hygiene’s point of view, cleaning by employees very fast and also serving extremely fast. No comparison to any restaurant during that time with parcel service in a different counter added with fresh coffee, tea, badam milk, hot & cold water, wash basins all provided in a very restricted place which is worth the taste, cost, quickness etc., added with local flavour, local language speaking employees. Then the same restaurant started many to name a few Jayanagar Third Block, Jayanagar 9th Block near erstwhile Total & Big Bazar. No looking back for success which is doing roaring business due to opening very early in the morning & closing quite late by night. If service, taste, sincerity to maintain same quality customers throng to such eaters irrespective of the locations. Afterwards many DARSHINI of different brands, Bhavani’s and also Sagar hotels mushroomed in Bangalore which cannot match in any part of India for this type of business model. It is a feast & looking forward for not missing eating in such sincere hotels. Tiffin, lunch, evening snacks, dinner, North & South Indian dishes, chats with upstairs dining with AC hall facility added in some branches which double suitably for parties, functions, get...
Read moreVisited Upahara Darshini for the first time and it turned out to be a really satisfying experience. I had heard a bit about the place being known for its authentic taste, and it definitely lived up to the hype.
Started off with their Sabaki Idly, which was soft and fluffy. The chutney was fresh and complemented it well, but what really stood out was the sagu – it was packed with flavor, mildly spiced, and just elevated the whole dish. Honestly, didn’t expect sagu to be that good with idly, but it worked beautifully.
Next up was the Masala Dosa, and I have to say, it was one of the best I’ve had in a while. The dosa was perfectly crispy on the outside, and the masala filling was smooth, well-balanced, and just melted in the mouth. It had that classic darshini-style touch which made it feel homely and authentic.
Then I tried the Kadabu, which was quite good – soft texture and nicely cooked. It’s not something I eat often, so it was a nice change and felt quite comforting. Also tried the Bonda Soup, and I was genuinely impressed. The bondas were hot, crispy, and soaked up the soup without turning soggy. The soup itself had a lovely flavor and was super satisfying, especially for an evening snack.
Wrapped everything up with a strong cup of filter coffee, which was exactly how I like it – bold, rich, and not too milky. It was the perfect end to a flavorful meal.
Overall, it was a really good evening brunch. The place had a nice local vibe, quick service, and the food felt freshly made and true to its roots. Definitely planning to go back and try more from their menu. Highly recommend if you're craving authentic and tasty South...
Read moreUpahara Darshini is a very popular food joint near Netkallappa circle on DVG Road. Although its a tiny hotel, its very crowded and you can see huge crowd waiting to taste the tiffen items in particular benne masala dosa. The masala dosa tastes good here along with the potato curry which is bit watery compared to other potato curries given with masala dosa at most places. Besides this other popular dishes here are chow chow bath, shavige bath, goli bajji. Its very crowded in the evenings and you have to wait your turn for your orders to come to your hand. Prices look reasonably normal. Being situated at the junction of DVG road and Netkallappa old bus stop, the place is filled with vehicles and parking would be huge challenge and car parking is out of question here. Most of the surroundings is filled with business establishments on DVG road which makes the traffic condition much worse here. Most of the times you won't even get space to stand and eat so there is no question of discussing about the ambiance here. Still those who are really interested in tasting good masala dosa and who are able to withstand the crowd can make...
