Overview Paragon - a household name from Kerala more recently adding its claim to fame(It's Kozhikode location) being selected by Taste Atlas in their Top 50 restaurants to eat at. Famous for its seafood, the expectations were high and on this occasion, a chance to experience lunch and dinner at their Cochin Location! Location Paragon is located in the famous Lulu International Main Mall beside the PVR Cinemas at Eddapally Junction in Cochin. A busy intersection with a lot of hustle and bustle outside - subdued once you are within the mall. Ambience Taking one corner of the mall beside PVR Cinemas - Paragon has two floors worth of seating with plenty of staff for service. As you enter the one floor you notice on the right the fresh catch of the day with the daily intake of newly added fish. A nice touch for those of you experts in knowing enough to select and pick a preferred fish to have in your preferred style of preparation. It is a busy restaurant so be prepared to feel the energy and sound of lots of people eating and conversing with waiters and cleaning staff continuously "turning tables". Food and Drink Lunch To help keep things simple - a fish curry meals(thali) was ordered to get a gauge of the variety of vegetables available. There were many new items to my surprise that I had not tried. Similar to other South Indian meals, a combination of 2-3 vegetables and 2-3 dals and rasam with a sweet dish was offered. Additionally there was papad to compliment the flavours and of course the fish curry itself. All this was to be had with their locally sourced chubby rice. This felt on the heavier side compared to the regular sona masoori or basmati rice one might be used to, but was a nice and refreshing change to have. All in all, the fish curry meals were very tasty and filling and we had to leave a little food by the end of it. If you do have a healthy appetite, you should be fine and really enjoy the variety being offered. Additionally, I ordered what was claimed to be a "fresh" orange juice but felt that while it tasted fresh - the level of sugar made me a bit suspicious to some external sugar having been added. Dinner After a few meetings and walking around the mall itself for a bit, the appetite to experience dinner brought me back before my flight out. For dinner a-la-carte was the way to go and the restaurant filled up rather quickly after they opened their doors. I ordered a starter of Tawa Grilled Tiger Prawns (they had to confirm it was available) and it was sensational! The prawn was split along its center making it easier to pull from its shell and the masala it was prepared in was simply divine! A generous portion that can easily satisfy two people and highly recommended. For the main course I ordered the famous Mango Fish Curry with fresh Appams. Once again, this lived up to its expectation with the mango adding just the right amount of sourness to the King Fish that was from the catch of the day dunked in the curry with hardly a bone (or tiny spicules) to worry about. It was so nice to have it with the soft and fluffy appams, and especially nice when the center of the appams soaked in the curry giving it so much flavour! Verdict In a nutshell, if you are visiting Cochin and enjoy fresh seafood, please do make it a point to visit Paragon. The fresh selection available, variety and reasonable price will have you going back again and again. A truly household name, for a reason. (Even though this may not be the...

Read moreDuring my recent visit, I sampled their parotta, egg roast, karimeen fish fry, and chai, walking away satisfied if not particularly impressed. The Food Parotta - The flaky, layered bread arrived warm and properly cooked, with decent texture and the right amount of oil. While it lacked the exceptional lightness you might find at some specialty spots, it served its purpose well as a vehicle for the accompanying dishes. Egg Roast - A competent preparation that hit all the familiar notes of this Kerala staple. The gravy had a reasonable depth of flavor with the expected blend of spices, though it didn’t particularly stand out from countless other versions across the state. The eggs were cooked properly without being overdone. Karimeen Fish Fry - Perhaps the highlight of the meal, the pearl spot fish was fresh and cooked through without being dry. The masala coating provided adequate spice and flavor, though it could have used a bit more punch to truly elevate the dish. The fish itself was of good quality, which counts for a lot. Tea - Standard Kerala tea that was hot, sweet, and served its caffeinated purpose. Nothing remarkable, but no complaints either. The Verdict Paragon Restaurant operates in that comfortable middle ground where the food doesn’t disappoint but doesn’t particularly inspire either. The portions were generous, the service was straightforward, and the prices felt fair for what you get. It’s the kind of place that works well when you want a decent meal without high expectations or when you’re looking for familiar flavors done competently. While I wouldn’t rush back for a special occasion, I also wouldn’t hesitate to return if I found myself in the area and needed a satisfying meal. Sometimes, that’s exactly what you need from a restaurant. Best for: Casual dining, satisfying hunger, reliable local food Skip if: You’re looking for exceptional flavors or a memorable...
