Every Mysorean who has visited the ‘Chat Street’ on Krishna Vilas Road, in front of Devaraja Traffic Police Station, would be familiar with the mouth-watering ‘Dry Gobi’ that is available hot and crispy every day. People stand in queue to put their hands on the yummy Dry Gobi prepared by Abid and Usman, his son. The father-son duo recently won the ‘Best Street Food Award’ at the ‘Oggarane Dabbi’, cookery competition organised by Zee Kannada, a regional channel. Abid was previously selling ball-point pens at Shivarampet before preparing and selling Dry Gobi. He has been selling dry gobi since 18 years. Earlier, Abid was selling dry gobi for six years at NR Road before moving to Krishna Vilas Road, now popular as ‘Chat Street’. Speaking to Star of Mysore, Abid said that it was former Mayor D. Dhruvakumar, who gave him an opportunity to sell Gobi at the Dasara Exhibition Grounds and added that it was because of his help that day he was able to look after his family and it was yielding good results. Abid also expressed his happiness for his delicacy being awarded the Best Street Food- 2014 by Zee Kannada. To prepare dry dobi, Abid uses around 15 kg oil and 100-150 kg cauliflower. Earlier, Dry Gobi was being sold at Rs. 10 per plate. But with the rise in prices of essential commodities, it is being sold at Rs. 30 per plate. The cuisine is so famous that people from across India who visit Mysore come to Chat Street to tickle their taste buds with Dry Gobi. This apart, local MLAs, Corporators and senior officials also visit Abid’s Usman Dry Gobi Stall to taste the delicacy. Award for Green Leaf Food Court Zee Kannada “Oggarane Dabbi” has presented the best family restaurant award to Hotel Green Leaf Food Court on Kalidasa Road in city. The award was presented at a function held in Mysore on July 6. The awards programme was telecast in Zee Kannada Channel on July 12 and 13. It will be telecast once again on July 19 and 20 at 9 pm.

Review as on 10th Aug: (0/5) Got double plate out of glutton and nicely got face palm, that too price is increased to whopping 70 Rs from 50 Rs since 4th June 2024!! Taste has become even worst from before and not Savory. I think it's due to color masala and other ban!! Gobi wasn't crispy but soft, it lacked usual taste of spice and masala, oil seems too thick and I wonder which oil is that?, green chutney has lost its taste quality also, queue management is as usual - hectic, apart from soft tasteless dry Gobi it seems the hard granules of new masala leftover from previous batch at the bottom was sticking to the current batch and you would get thick small over fried granules at every bite. Don't go, not at all worth now. Old Review (almost a year ago to new review): (3/5) For a person who had had many dry Gobi versions in Mysore and Bangalore this seemed quite mediocre for the craze. Yes, it's tasty but over hyped and over priced. May be once in a while or as a Mysorean this was my first and probably I may visit or not visit this place. Queue management is worst!

Excellent Gobi dry. He sells just 1 item. Very friendly staff and they organise and manage the crowd very well in first come first serve basis. Too crowded always. There is plenty street parking around. Only downside is that he charges Rs. 60 for a tiny plate with 10 Gobi florets, and keeps 2 slices cucumber and 1 slice onion. For such a steep pricing, they don't even give lemon piece telling that it's become expensive. This seems illogical, because they make u wait 20 mins, plus with 1 cauliflower of 500gms he can make atleast 20 plates, for the quantity he gives. Please see the photo of the plate size, of a baby's palm. The chutney is not very tasty. Place is hyped because of a blogger. He makes like easily Rs. 50 as profit per plate, plus is very stingy in the quantity, because of the demand. Surely tasty, but not worth the price, definately. If u want to waste 2 hrs on waiting for this Gobi in the evening, plus stand in the crowd, go ahead and enjoy!

Very overhyped place. Because of social media hype visited this place. First of all there is no parking and no queue system. The crowd is huge because there is no fast service. There is not even first come first serve as well based on queue. After standing for 30-45 mins with much difficulty got a plate of Gobi for 60/- he serves dry Gobi, i.e.without Gobi masala along with a slice of cucumber and onion with green chutney. The Gobi(cauliflower) was full oily, and taste was also not so pleasing. I would recommend to go to Prabhus dry Gobi which is located in the adjacent road. As the taste is much better, with less waiting time. There is no much option available he serves only dry Gobi made from cauliflower.

Not worth the hype, tasted like a regular cauliflower Gobi. Tasted like chiken masala was used to enhance the flavour. ₹60/plate which was not reasonable. Parking could be an issue. Pros: Proprietor Usman and his father were serving with a smile. Is it just me? Is it just hype or was it really good? People were standing in queue and waiting and requesting please when can I get it? I found it very oily I found it too bland No sauce no masala as this is dry gobi The taste was okay not bad but not something to kill for The wait was too much People said this is a must visit place. Minimum half an hour maximum 1.5 hour you want to wait for one dry gobi 😒

The dry gobi was delicious! We showed up around 7 PM on a Thursday and there was no wait beyond watching the most serene of individuals gently and with great focus prepare the gobi It was delicious and crispy, and I’d eat it again and again!
