I was a fan of the now defunct cafe 17 branch in kaloor, so we went into this hoping it would've capture the same feeling. Unfortunately the food was below par, and this means I cannot say Cafe 17 is worth the visit. The ambience is.. Moody, bordering on silent unease, considering how the place was quite dark. The location doesnt lend any favors either, being in a much quieter part of the city centre. We went for dinner and tried 4 dishes:
Chicken parmigiana: This was the most disappointing dish there. I loved the old parm that they had over at kaloor, but this one was tasteless and bland. It felt like they'd forgotten any semblance of seasoning. The chicken itself was cooked well, but the pasta underneath it was on par with some of the instant noodles I've made in the past. Neither had a flavor that really inspired, and I was disappointed by the quantity. They gave a meagre selection of vegetables to accompany it, and I'd have been forgiven for mistaking it for a childrens portion.
Pasta Nduja: The dish redeemed a bit of the overall experience. Imagine a spaghetti bolognese but with much more meat and less sauce. It might seem like it would be dry but they managed to strike a balance and it was just moist enough. If you're getting any dish, try this one. Recommended.
Caramel pudding: This was a decent caramel pudding, good quantity. Nothing more to say.
Royal brownie with ice cream: I must say I was unhappy with this dessert. For what they charge you, this is something I could've made at home for half the price with the same level of quality. The brownie seemed too sweet and surprisingly similar to the packet brownies you can buy from a store. The sauce and ice cream were also extremely average, and that is being generous. This dish has failed to capture the imagination as anything more than absolutely basic and I highly recommend ordering something else for dessert.
The experience in terms of service however was a different story. The servers were quick and very helpful, and I have no complaints on that end. They were polite and quick with their job, and didn't need to be prompted for the most basic of tasks like providing a menu or water. All in all, this wasn't my favorite night out, and I wish some of the food had tasted better. The only reason the place is getting 2 stars is because of the excellent service. If you're looking for a new cafe to try out, I'd steer clear of here and focus on some of the city's...

The service was impressive—staff were humble, friendly & attentive. Despite being a popular spot, they ensure a relaxed dining experience without rushing guests.
I visited this place almost a year ago and had been wanting to return to try more from their menu. However, the menu keeps changing, and this time, I couldn’t find some of the dishes I had planned to try. That said, the options available weren’t disappointing.
Here’s what we tried: Cream of Chicken Soup – True to its name, it was thick, creamy, and delicious. Spicy Fish Bites – Really good! Beef Cheesy Fries – A nice attempt, cheesy & yummm! Nasi Goreng – Loved the flavorful rice and the satay; a great Indonesian dish. Potbelly Stack – Decent, but nothing extraordinary. Grilled Tenderloin Steak – Cooked exactly as requested; we tried it with barbecue sauce, and overall, it was good. Herb-Crusted Mahi Mahi – The fish was tender and soft, pairing well with the creamy sauce and gravy.
For drinks, we had Lemon Tea, Tropical Bloom, and Cinderella—all good. However, Disney’s Hot Chocolate was a major disappointment—not worth the price, and the taste wasn’t great either.
A nice touch was the complimentary Red Velvet Cheesecake they offered, which was a pleasant surprise!
Overall, a great place to unwind with good vibes & good food.. I was happy but I missed the feeling of coming back again that I had when I came last time.. not sure if we should have tried other items...
Read moreRight from the time cafe17 started back in palarivattom, I've been a fan of their food.
Over the years i can surely say they havnt compromised on the quality of food even one bit.this is the new restaurant in pallimukku, nearer to the shipyard boundary wall. Located in a very sweet spot that in the middle of the busing city, yet secluded enough for a peaceful bite.
Got parking space for a couple of vehicles. It's a 2 storeyed restaurant. With ground floor for grabbing a quick bite and the top floor for bigger groups and parties. The top floor is very spacious and has plenty of seating.
Food. There's no denying that Cafe17 gets you the best of the best food kochi has to offer. Their continental food is just amazing. Pastas, steaks, burgers, sandwiches, triple sandwiches...all are a delight to the tastebuds.
They offer all varieties of coffee, ice teas, and mojitos.. Icebull mojito has been and will be an addiction for me as long as i live. Their sandwich and pastas are a must try.
Service. They serve you immediately with a smile and always treats you well. The orders are brot to you asap and will not leave you hanging and hangry. The owner himself is a great host and a wonderful person. My gratitude, thanks Nd best wishes for serving kochi with the best food for years.
Ambience. It's got the essence of a lofi music to it's general ambience....soft subtle and calming. A tinge of deco to remind you that you still in a cafe to relax and chill. Good seats and tables. Awesome set of cutlery Nd napkins r available. The lighting is hip ,uplifting yet soothing.
Overall If i create a list of top 10cafes in town this will take the crown. Kudos to...
