I love the food of North Kolkata cabins but also love the beautiful ambiance of South Kolkata cafes. Bangla Canvas seems to be fusion of both in the heart of North Kolkata, yes College Street.
This place is little hard to find, you may need to ask a few to find the gate and then it’s located upstairs but I loved the theme. It's cosy but the ambiance and punchy colour scheme is great.
Beverages We started with Gandharaj Ghol, Aam Panna & Watermelon Soda, every item was good but Watermelon Soda was out of the world.
Fish Fry @ (4/5) They've both Basa and Bhetki, we tried the Bhetki one. It was quite good as expected from North Kolkata cafes but unlike many places not so over fried. Kasundi was too good.
Prawn Malai Curry Pasta @ Rs.250 (4/5) It looked just like traditional white sauce pasta but after a spoon it felt like a prawn curry dish. It was really new and created confusion in my head. You need to develop a taste to get accustomed with this fusion.
Mutton Kasha Pizza @ Rs.390 (5/5) Domino's has started making pizzas based on Bengali flavours like the new Kasundi Pizzas. So why not Mutton Kasha Pizza? It was just a leap ahead. True mutton kasha with its strong distinct flavour on thin crust base with lots of good quality cheese, tasted truly amazing. Must try here.
Mutton Kasha & Pulao @ Rs.390 (5/5) At last Bengal Cafe & Bengal's one of the most iconic combo. Pulao was authentic, rich in dry fruits and very flavourful. Mutton pieces were super well-cooked and gravy tasted brilliant. It’s their bestseller and a must try combo here.
Conclusion If you're bored with same Coffee House, Dilkhusa & Paramount at College Street then you should definitely try this new modern cafe. Apart from traditional dishes do try their special Bengali fusion items that's what you don't get anywhere...
Read moreFood, Taste, quality and price wise this is actually best place right now in college square, i know sufi/few cabins are there but this best but ONE BiG Problem, they take awful lot of time to serve minimum they will take 40 minutes to serve, so go there only you can wait, will also add few pictures do check on them as well. Now full Review We were looking for new places in this place bcz past experience as you all know very bad, and luckily we found one, this is new place, ambience was great Initially we ordered 1 chicken Manchurian soup and 1 chicken kosha pizza They didn't wanted to take order we asked them after 15 minutes then we waited and waited and waited almost after 1 hour we got our order, soup was full of mushroom chicken slices, and it is very heavy tasty and spicy, you can definitely try this, then chicken kosha pizza, they have thin crust pizza 🍕 chicken qubes are there and taste exactly same like they are from chicken kosha. After that we ordered chilli chicken burger and chicken Manchurian wrap, they took another 20 minutes to serve chicken wrap and another 20 minutes for chicken burger, both are good taste good, although i am disappointed with the burger bcz i have eaten far better burger than this one. So I am going to recommend this place to you guys, just one request for the owner/admin of this place please try to serve us quickly atleast serve us under 25 minutes and it is the only solution to tackle the rush what we have witnessed today, people will come to this place but they are going back as you have no seating arrangements for them, so if you can work this out i don't see any reason to not to become this successful. Thank you for reading this soon i will come up with another review tilo then stat safe...
Read moreMy recent experience at Bangla Canvas Cafe left me quite disappointed, particularly with their Veg Chowmin and Chili Paneer dishes.
Let's start with the Veg Chowmin. It was drowning in oil, making it incredibly greasy and unpleasant to eat. The excessive oiliness completely overpowered any other flavors that might have been present. The noodles were soggy and lacked the desired texture, further adding to the disappointment. It felt like I was consuming a plate of oily noodles rather than a flavorful Chowmin dish.
Moving on to the Chili Paneer, it was shockingly sweet. The sauce had an overwhelming amount of sweetness that completely overshadowed any hint of spiciness. It seemed as though they had mistaken sugar for chili in the recipe. The paneer itself was average at best, lacking the desired texture and freshness that one would expect. The overall balance of flavors was completely off, resulting in a dish that was more like a dessert than a savory chili paneer.
To make matters worse, the portion sizes were disappointingly small. Considering the high prices at Bangla Canvas Cafe, the lack of quantity only added to the dissatisfaction.
In conclusion, the Veg Chowmin was excessively oily and lacked flavor, while the Chili Paneer was overly sweet and failed to deliver the expected spiciness. Combined with the small portion sizes, my dining experience at Bangla Canvas Cafe was far from enjoyable. I would not recommend these dishes to anyone looking for a satisfying meal.
Not only that, they have a hidden talent, Just when you pay the bill at the counter, they will ask you for your phone and, if you give them, they quietly open the chrome browser and give a 5 star rating for their food quality, even your food is...
