15.12.23 This is my fourth visit to kasturi and I'm utterly disappointed. I used to recommend this place to everyone. I myself loved to visit this place. But this time I couldn't be more upset with the experience. Firstly, we had wait too long to order. Somebody came and asked what we want to order then said no that is not my department. They were talking and chatting with each other but not paying any heed to us. Secondly, their food, I have no words... the papar(crackers) had something dangling from them like hair or something like that and we noticed it after we had 2 or three pieces. Totally spoiled the mood. The salad was not washed. You could see black spots on them. Couldn't eat the salad either. The mutton! Worst of all.. did not cook properly. They give you two pieces of meat and one was fine and another couldn't be torn even with teeth. Then comes the quantity.. earlier (three to five months back)they used to give a bigger bowl of rice, and pulao but this time it was like really less. Usually we can share the Maharaja Thali but this time we had to order more rice which we had to pay for, last time they did not charge for it. It was really disappointing to see such degradation. I felt like I totally wasted the money. Here I am keeping my old review too. Just so you can understand the difference.
When I say that I did not feel like I was eating outside... I mean it... the food was so good... we ordered a Maharaja Thaali( bhaat, sona mug daal, alu vaja, salad, kachupata chingri, bhetki paturi, polao, mutton kosha, chatni, papor, misti doi it costs 764 but including the GST and water bottle it was 822) and it was just fantastic. The size of the paturi was big enough for two people to share. And each and every dish tastes like home. There are many restaurants that serves bengali cuisine..but they make it feel like home. We needed some extra rice and they give you that complimentary... but funny fact that the water bottle was not complimentary..they charge you for that... but it's ok when they provide you such service. The waiters were the nicest. I have been to many restaurants but by far this is my favourite bengali restaurants. And we were lucky enough that we didn't have to wait to get a seat. While we were eating there were people waiting outside.. wven though it was a regular day like no occasion. This could be the only problem here that they are always very busy so you might need to wait a bit before you get a table... I surely recommend this place to every foodie out there or people who like...

Read moreIt is one of the famous restaurants in Kolkata when it comes to authentic Bengali cuisine. Recently my friends hosted my Aiburovat there. They ordered vetki paturi mahavoj thali for me. There was Rice, Pulao, Dal, jhuri ALU vaja, Lau chingri, vetki paturi, Mutton, chatni, papad, misti doi and salad. The quantity of Rice and Pulao both were abundant. I liked the taste of the pulao, it was balanced not the regular extra sweet one types. I loved the taste of the lau chingri. That exhibited precision in the art of cooking. The vetki paturi was made with fresh fish and the size of the piece was really good as well as the whole preparation. Moving to the mutton, the slow-cooking technique employed was evident in the breakdown of collagen fibers in the mutton. This meticulous process allowed for the infusion of spices, creating a complex flavor profile and a tender texture. Chatni was an okay type but there was something wrong with the papads. It seemed that those were not well fried. I enjoyed the misti doi also. Overall the thali was more than enough for one person. One thing that was less average was the straberry lassi. It was extremely sweet and tasted awful. The ambience of the restaurant was pretty good but a bit congested. The service was great they even allowed us to sit and wait for almost 1 hour for one of my friends. But remember one thing they don't offer any special arrangements of any occasion. They also serve mini and...
