Kathleen Confectioners — Restaurant in Kolkata

Visited Kathleen Confectioners mainly to try their famous rum ball, and I have to say — it was totally worth it. It’s a small, rich chocolate ball with a noticeable hit of rum flavour that makes it stand out from regular desserts. Unique, sweet, and something you should definitely try if you’re in Kolkata.

I also tried their Truffle Boat and Swiss Roll, both of which lived up to the hype. Moist, well-made, and packed with flavour — clearly made with good quality ingredients. The variety here is pretty impressive, with both traditional and fusion-style pastries available.

The service was also great. I asked them to pack everything carefully so I could carry it during my flight, and they were super helpful — double packed everything to make sure it stayed safe and fresh.

Prices are reasonable considering the quality, and the staff were polite and quick with their service. The shop itself is clean and well-organised, making it easy to pick what you want.

Kathleen bakery review. It lost it's glory only name and glamour is left. Better have a small piece and decide to buy more.

Caramel cake The caramel slice cake has a layer of caramale on top that had hardened. The cake was also not soft enough. Overall it did not taste fresh. Taste itself was fine, but it wasn't exceptionally good. 6/10

Chocolate cake The chocolate cake had too much chocolate, underwhelming the taste of the cake itself, and it made the cake too sweet too. The thin layer of cale at the bottom was also hard and tasted burnt in some corners. It tasted nothing except too sweet and peanuts. 5/10

Patties Chicken patties were unexpectedly oily. Te filling to patties covering ration was off, too less filling, too much covering. The covering had very little taste of its own, it wasn't buttery or flavoured, and it was chewy. The filling wasn't anything special either, nothing to write home about. Overall it was average. 5/10

I think kathleen has lost its legacy after it discontinued some of its signature and classic food items. They have also compromised on the taste over time, the nostalgic old kathleen taste is lost. The rebranding is far from perfect. I think bringing back the old menu would be so good which was very diverse and unique. The new stuff on their menu is boring and feels like a desperate attempt to keep up with the latest cake brands. Kathleen should be an original.
