Highly overrated average restaurant. Details below 👇
Likes: Buta No Kakuni (pork appetizers) Bhetki fist in holy basil Thai style barbeque chicken Mocktails Dislikes: Everything in main course and overpriced
Details below: Five friends went for some fancy food in the new year's day. After walking past several restaurants in the Park Street due to long waiting time, we ended up in Peter Hu. Surprisingly it was not crowded and got seat immediately. You can give it a try in the occasions.
The ambience, seating arrangement were good. No music, generally music sets the mood but not in this case.
We heard a lot about Peter Hu for being one of the best Pan Asian Restaurant in the city. I felt, to some extent, yes but falls short in many.
Starters: Buta No Kakuni (pork appetizer): Mind blowing! Simply amazing. 6 pieces of juicy tender pork in Tonkatsu sauce. Served as in pieces of brownie. You will get a mild taste of cocoa in the bite, the meat absolutely melts in the mouth releasing the smoky flavour from the fat. Yhat taste will last longer in your taste bud.
Bhetki fist in holy basil: Probably the best fish appetizers I tried outside Bengali cuisine. Crispy crust protecting thick juicy fish chip. The flavour of basil is too good yet not too strong to be irritated. Just perfect to start your course with.
Thai style barbecued chicken:
Nothing fancy in here but certainly worth it in the chicken appetizers option. Pieces are crispy, slightly shredded more like KFC chicken strips in sauce.
Mocktails:
1: Fresh lime soda and virgin mojito:
Nothing to talk about but a very good option with the appetizers. You will not disappoint.
Main course (2 stars):
After such delightful starters, our expectations went right up and fell sharply after eating the course. 1 extra star for the quantity
Egg fried rice: Totally flat! Considering it cost ₹275, totally awful. Some flat thick asian rice with decent egg pieces. No vegies, not even for garnish. Just flat!
Tom Yum Shrimp Fried Rice: Another flat disappointment. If you decide to eat this in share and you get shrimp in plate, consider yourself very luck and try your luck in lotteries. Such was the condition in ₹330 rice.
Malaysian fried rice: Interesting spicy flavours in this rice. I liked this, ehile one of my friends did not. Guess the spice taste is subjective. You will get a good flavour of South Asian spices with again miserable quantity of chicken in it.
Kung Pao Chicken: Good one not the best. Denzong's taste much better and much cheaper.
Chicken in ferment: Nothing good. Flat taste and very salty. Told the waiters about the salt, don't know if they will improve. A disappointment yet again.
Moral: Don't go for all out attack on the food menu. Appetizers are certainly worth it while the main course are not. But you will not go in a restaurant and eat appetizers only, so consider your choices carefully. Overpriced and overhyped. Certainly worth for a try but not to give treats.

Read morePeter Hu was on my wishlist for a long time and finally, after a tiring event I decided to take myself out on a solo dinner date here and the experience was quite pleasant.
Right off the bat, the place is beautiful with floral upholstery and multiple seating sections. The staffs are courteous and were kind enough to let me sit on a 4-seater table when the only 2-seater table available was between two sections and I wasn't comfortable sitting there. So a big thumbs up for the flexibility to accommodate.
Coming to the food and drink I started off with a cocktail followed by two appetizers and a main course.
Screwdriver- A perfect blend of orange juice and vodka. It was refreshing and just what I wanted. Someone who is not a fan of a very on-the-face alcoholic cocktail like LIIT would definitely enjoy this.
Pecking Chicken Dumpling- 3 pieces of medium-sized dumplings in a sweet and tangy broth. The dumplings were good, and the filling was ample and tasted great but I cannot say the same for the broth. It was way sweeter than I preferred and did not like it. This dish is not outstanding and can be passed.
Barbequed Wrapped Beef- 3 pieces of piping hot minced beef in a betel leaf wrapping were served and my favourite dish of the evening. The minced beef was extremely flavourful and has a rich smoked beefy flavour that I absolutely loved and the betel leaf wrap also added a nice texture to the dish. It was served with sauce. I am not sure what it was made up of but I think there was some tamarind in it. It was very sweet and I didn't like it with the wraps. In my opinion, the wraps tasted so much better with chilli oil. This one is a must-try!
Chicken Thai Green Curry and Steamed Jasmine Rice- Fragrant rice with thick rich coconut and kaffir lime flavoured curry with amble chicken morsels, good enough for 3 people. The flavour was on point except I felt it was a tad bit sweeter than what Thai green curries are supposed to be but overall a great comfort food.
The service was fast and prompt, the staffs were very attentive to each of the customers. Would visit again to cover the other parts of their...
Read morePeter Hu, which opened on October 16, 2021, shares the Karnani Mansion address with Mocambo (albeit it's roughly eight stops ahead). It is organised into two stories and has 145 covers, with an elegant stairway leading upwards. The front is a splash of white off Park Street, with botanical motifs, pinks, violets, and a pop of teal on the inside. A lamp hangs over each table, a popular design element at Mocambo and Peter Cat. Peter Hu is a multi-cuisine restaurant. The menu includes foods from all around the world, such as classic French, Italian, and Asian fare. Teno (who was delighted with the chicken fried rice) like Chinese. Chinese dishes are also among my favourites. For a change, I indulged in Thai food this time!
Let's see how the food was:
Thai Grilled Chicken Salad (₹305): 🥗 Oyster sauce, minced garlic, white pepper, and vegetable oil were combined with boneless chicken thighs. There was also fish sauce, palm sugar, tamarind paste, and lime juice added. The dish was deliciously sweet because of the liberal use of palm sugar. They improvised by sprinkling it with peanuts. If you enjoy chicken salads, this recipe is a must-try!
Seafood Soup (₹235): 🍵 Firm white fish such as halibut, haddock, sea bass, and prawns cooked in olive oil with onions, carrots, jalapenos, garlic, and a very small amount of Habanero. Smoky paprika, cumin, red pepper flakes, tomato paste, coconut milk, seafood stock, lime juice, and cilantro were also added. Delicious!
Chicken Fried Rice (₹265): 🍛 Peas and spring onions are stirred through aromatic, fresh-smelling rice. This meal has a deep savoury flavour that is enhanced by a slight hint of ginger and sesame oil. The fluffy free-range egg complements the light grassy flavour of the spring onions, while the peas lend bite to the sticky long grain rice. The dish was loaded with shredded chicken, and Teno's first words after biting into...
