Disappointed to say the least!
Let me share my experience bit by bit
I went into this cafe looking at the fantastic ratings it has on Google and Zomato. I absolutely love eating out at places that serve good food.
The moment we went into this place and we wanted to sit at the first floor they said they weren't offering that place yet for sitting, so we thought probably it wasn't ready or something. We were made to sit in a place which was okay, nothing great, but comfortable. We were asked to order from a pdf which gets downloaded if you scan a QR code. No issues here.
Next we looked at the menu card. 4 pcs of suimai costs 375 bucks! I thought to myself maybe the taste justifies the price. There was a side we ordered chicken in chilli that costs 525 rupees! I thought again maybe all those great ratings and stuff are because of their service and the taste of the food, but at that price point it really had to be exceptionally good.
So we waited and waited...Once the food was served it was absolutely not worth the price. I have eaten at the best chinese restaurants at Kolkata and this was absolutely nothing special at that price. Other places would serve you better food at lower prices. The noodle was so damn oily! How do you call that healthy!?! My stomach started to cramp for a while after having it. The chicken side which costed more than 500 bucks was absolute rubbish!
We paid 1500 bucks for 2 people ordering 3 dishes without any drinks at a restaurant that does not serve great healthy food which they boast about even before you enter the cafe, does not have a great service and plays music so loud that you can barely hear yourself. Imagine that! I would not have to pay a lot more to get a full fledged chinese buffet at Mainland China! Also, remember I said we wanted to sit in the first floor and they did not let us? Well people were already sitting there by the time we were leaving.
My recommendation: I am never going back to this place ever again! You can take your decision after reading my review. I liked the neon...
Read morePing's Cafe Orient was in my wishlist for the longest of time as I can remember and the place did not disappoint even a bit. The decor is amazing and so are the staffs. The food is heavenly to say the least. We ordered the following dishes and drinks and all of them were unique and tasted awesome.
Charcoal Roast Pork Skewers - The name pretty much explaoms the dish. The smoky flavour in the perfectly cooked pork was amazing. A must try!
Prawn Garlic Butter Dimsum - very smooth favour, the dimsum outer layer was also thin, did not taste very unique but it tasted pretty good.
Pork Char Siu Bao - The Char Siu Pork inside the Bao was great. The bao bun was also good but I am a bit biased towards the bao bun of Momo i am, so in comparison, MIA wins in my opinion. But this one is another must try from ping's!
Lamb Rendang Curry and Steam Rice - The Rendang currt comes with a paratha but we ordered steamed rice seperately. The curry was one of the best one I have had till date. It had a rich coconut and kaffir lime flavour and I cannot emphasise how much I loved it. 100% a must try dish!
Chocolate Marquise - We ended our meal with Chocolate Marquise. The dessert was very smooth and was a perfect end to a perfect meal.
For drinks we had ordered the cocktails Gin & Tea, Moscow Mule and Lemon Drop and both the drinks were very refreshing.
On a different day I had also had Tenderloin Laksa home delivered from Ping's and it was heavenly. Do give it a try atleast once to know how amazing it tastes!
I would definitely visit again to try out all the other great dishes that they offer. A highly...
Read moreI had an upsetting experience at Ping’s Orient that I feel compelled to share. Upon arrival, the security guard stopped me and rudely stated that "chappals are not allowed." While I respect the idea of maintaining dress codes, the way this was conveyed was humiliating and devoid of basic respect.
What struck me most was how, after I began walking away, the same guard suddenly called me back in a rude tone, almost as if they were doing me a favor by letting me enter. It wasn’t just about the footwear; it was about the sheer lack of dignity extended to a guest. I did not come back. The damage was done by then.
The whole incident painfully reminded me of those infamous signs from colonial times: “Indians and Dogs Not Allowed.” It’s disheartening to feel that such attitudes of exclusion and judgment still persist, albeit in different forms.
Ping’s Orient may appreciate the money I would spend there, but they clearly don’t respect the person spending it. A dining experience is about more than just food—respect and hospitality matter, and in this regard, Ping’s Orient failed miserably.
I hope the management reflects on this and ensures no one else leaves their establishment feeling as unwelcome and...
