This Barbeque place is located in the bustling Hinjewadi area, but the ambience of this place is quite calm where you can indulge into sumptuous food. As the name suggests, Universal Barbeque brings out to you a wide range of dishes covering all the necessary cuisines. As soon as you settle down, you will be seeing the live grill section infront of you within no time thanks to the courteous staff. And, the grill section will be filled with skewers of your choice sooner than you would expect. You can also commence your supper with a soup which is kept in the main course area (self-service).
APPETIZERS - I had CHILLY GARLIC PRAWNS, AMRITSARI FISH TIKKA, NAWABI TANGDI, LASOONI MUTTON SEEKH, SOYA CHILLY WINGS, CILANTRO CHICKEN and BALAI KA ALOO in the grilling section. The chilly garlic prawns were thankfully mild with the chillies and it wasn't as hot as I expected it to be. The chilly garlic marination was apt and it could have been a little more flavorful but still the resulting combination was quite lip-smackingly delicious. The prawns were well cooked and it just needed a bit of grilling before consuming it. The amritsari fish tikka was marinated quite well and it was a blend of different spices which came together in a good way. Also, the fish was nice and tender as it should be. The cilantro chicken had it's own freshness which came from the coriander based marination. Again, the chicken was nicely cooked and none of these three appetizers were raw or overcooked. The nawabi tangdi had a rich look to it with apt marination. But, the meat had a light pink tinge which means that it was undercooked. The meat was tender and juicy and the marination saved it though. The lassoni mutton seekh had a unique flavor with the subtlety of the garlic flavor. They were quite succulent and was appealing to the palate. The balai ka aloo was a surprising element in a good way. Potato fritters topped with onion, paprika and some sort of mayonnaise cream cheese and also garnished with coriander. This combination was so delicious and it made a very soothing vegetarian appetizer.
Desserts - You will be spoiled for choices in this section. I had a MIXED FRUIT TART, GULAB JAMUN, ASSORTED PASTRY, COCONUT MOUSSE, CABBAGE KI BURFI and BLUEBERRY CHEESECAKE. The mixed fruit tart was quite a delicious dessert with the freshness of the fruits and the cream playing a big factor in it. The tart was soft and not too crunchy and wasn't too sweet which made it palatable. The assorted pastry was available in three colors or in three flavors as I should say-mango, strawberry and chocolate. The sweetness wasn't overpowering and the cream was adequate and the pastries were decently flavorful. The coconut mousse was a treat to the eyes as well as the palate. Served in small beautiful plastic glasses, the mousse was also served with a slice of cherry and it was delicious with some coconut garnishing on top. The most surprising element was the cabbage ki burfi. I was expecting it to be having the loose ends of cabbage but it was like any other burfi to look. Although it looked quite ordinary, it packed some great flavors. It had the freshness of the cabbage and the sweetness was adequately balanced and the combination was so unique and delicious that you just couldn't help but relish it. There were many other options, but I was already so full and couldn't have it. . They also have a Mongolian and an Italian cuisine section which i didn't have and I am regretting over it. Anyway, they have some decent music playing in the background. The hospitality here is commendable and you will surely be overwhelmed by it. There are certain very unique entities and some very delicious dishes in their menu. Also, you can try their mocktails which have a good amount of fizz in it and the sugar is at the lowest level. The grilling section is one of their USPs. This place is quite cool for the Hinjewadi people and you will surely like the food here with your...
Read moreI've been to many BBQ buffets where you see a variety in food, so many desserts but the main thing which is 'taste' is lost and it just spoils your mood. But my recent visit to Universal Barbeque was totally satisfying and the food really did impress me. Located in Hinjawadi near Laxmi Chowk, this place is really huge. Once you enter in, there is a reception and then you see a wide buffet. Starting from salads, live counters, main course and desserts this buffet is like a never-ending thing. The seating arrangement is in the inner part which is really comfortable. It is air conditioned due to which you feel calm and chill. The sofas, chairs, tables are all pretty comfy. All the tables have a DIY barbeques which is nice. Now coming to the food section,
⏺️ Starters : In the starters, they have some 'on grill' items like 'paneer, mushrooms, pineapple' etc. and also some starters which are served on the table like 'cajun potatoes, crispy corn'. Well, all these items were good in taste, especially I liked the Cajun spiced potatoes which were nicely crisped and tossed in yummy, creamy sauce. Along with these items there were some different dishes like 'veg spider roll' which was basically a paneer roll coated with noodles and then deep fried. Also, I had 'tandoori shakarkand' for the first time which basically was sweet potatoes marinated in a spicy marinade and grilled perfectly.
⏺️ Live Counters : There are many live counters where you get the customized dishes as per your liking. They have pasta counter, panipuri-chat counter, momos, salads, pizza and jalebi live counter. From all these I loved all the chat items. Also pasta in white sauce was nice. What I didn't like was the momos. It had very less filling which was pretty bland.
⏺️ Main Course : Unlike many other places, Universal Barbeque has lots of good options in main course too. There are around 5 to 6 sabji plus two types of dals, rice and some continental items like noodles, fried rice, etc. The gravy of paneer sabji was really good. It was creamy, not too spicy neither too sweet. But the paneer was hard and chewy which ruined the dish. Diwani Handi, Lacheele aloo and Malai Kofta Curry were also good in taste and I liked them. The rajma on the other hand was very watery and had no flavours. In dal, Dal Bukhara (or we can say Dal Makhani?) was superb. It was thick in consistency, creamy with the perfect spice level. Also, Dal Palak had that homely taste which I loved. Mix Veg Pulav was so flavorful and aromatic. It was very mild with a subtle taste with lots of veggies in it.
⏺️ Now comes everyone's favorite part, DESSERTS. Right from desi sweets like Gulab Jamun, Moong Dal halwa to Pastries, Cupcakes To Cold Stone Icecreams, they've got all covered for you. Things I liked the most were : 1.Soft, little, perfectly sweetened Gulab jamuns. 2.Hot jalebis which were made in front of me. 3.Fruit custard was really good with right consistency and sweetness. 4.Also, Kesar Phirnee and Chocolate Nut Brownie were really good. The icecreams with flavours like strawberry, butterscotch and chocolate were awesome. But some dishes like moong dal halwa, cham-cham, rabdi I didn't like. The chamcham was similar to rasmalai and the balls in it were very hard which wasn't enjoyable. The rabdi was too watery and was nothing like a rabdi.
In a nutshell, compared to many other BBQ restaurants this place has a lots of variety in food, good ambience and good quality of food at a...
Read moreA Barbeques buffet is no longer a strange concept to all the Punekars. With a new name popping up every now and then, there are ample options to choose from. In this galore of places serving the concept of Barbeque very few have been able to make a name for themselves and this place definitely has the potential to be one of them. This place is barely a month old and it is attracting a lot of patrons. Its overall appearance and the huge ambience being the prime factors. This place is huge and can easily be located. There is ample car parking space available so it doesn't bother you.
Food: 4/5
As the name suggests, this place serves global cuisine, and there is literally plenty to choose from. From local chat to different cuisines across the world they have it all covered. The place has a great number of starters, to begin with. You can relish different starters alongside the barbeque. The items on the grill are on point. I totally loved the mushrooms, which we juicy and nicely marinated.
Starters:
Cajun Spiced Potatoes: This was one of my favourites among all the starters served. So much so that we repeated the dish. The potatoes were nicely cooked and tasted absolutely scrumptious.
Veg Spider Rolls: This was a nice take on the typical vegetable rolls. The outer layer of these rolls was crunchy and tasted really good.
Soya Chap: Traditionally small pieces of soya baked using skewers in a clay oven called a tandoor after marinating in spices and yoghurt! I really liked its flavours.
Chaat: Pani Puri, Dahi Sev Puri and Sev Papdi were among the chat items. All of them were good. I personally liked the Dahi Sev Puri more.
Corn Chaat: This is one of my favourite starters. The crispy corn accompanied by the pudina chutney makes it a perfect combination.
Main Course: The main course consisted of a wide spread of dishes both in the vegetarian and non-vegetarian department. There is a lot to choose from and you will be left spoilt for choice.
Dessert: No meal is complete without the desserts, this place has tempting options in the dessert section. I especially loved the jalebi rabdi! It had my heart.
Overall, with a huge ambience and a galore of cuisines on offer makes it an exciting prospect to look out for. The buffet prices are not to high and totally justify the amount of variety you get to experience here. If you are looking out for a new Barbeque place to try, this is a really...
