Amazonia: A Disastrous Experience from Start to Finish

I generally don’t consider restaurants with a 3.9 rating, but against my better judgment, I decided to give Amazonia a try. The Instagram-worthy decor looked promising, and there was a 30% Swiggy GRIF offer, so I thought, why not? Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be an absolute disaster.

From the moment we arrived around 9 PM, the place was packed. Despite our early arrival, we were promptly seated, which was probably the only smooth part of the evening. The service, however, was beyond disappointing. A large group of young foreign guests had the entire staff mesmerized, leaving the rest of the patrons practically invisible. Getting the attention of a server required physical nudging because no amount of calling out worked.

Our order included stuffed mushrooms, deep-fried calamari, and lamb in pepper sauce. When we requested a table change (because the original one was too tiny), they moved us—but forgot to transfer our order. After multiple reminders, they eventually brought the food, except for the lamb, which they completely forgot. When we pointed it out, the server, clearly flustered and clueless, instead brought us… the bill. A bill that included the cost of the lamb that was never served.

Trying to resolve the issue was another ordeal. The restaurant manager ( Lucky his name was apparently) was nowhere to be found—he was too busy playing DJ near the music console to bother with customer concerns. After some reluctance, the assistant manager finally intervened and agreed to serve the lamb. But just when we thought the nightmare was over, another bizarre incident unfolded. The server tucked our bill between his shirt and pants before eventually handing it to us—highly unprofessional.

To top it off, they falsely claimed they had given us a “complimentary lamb” in the bill. In reality, they had simply re-added the original missing order and misrepresented it as a gesture of goodwill.

The final straw? I forgot my bag at the restaurant and realized it only after reaching home. I immediately called them multiple times, but no one picked up. Given that we had booked through Swiggy, they had my contact details—yet no one bothered to call me. After an hour and a half of failed attempts, I had to call a nearby restaurant, whose staff kindly informed Amazonia to pick up my call. Only then did the restaurant manager “suddenly discover” my bag, which either means they hadn’t cleaned the table for over an hour or had kept the bag aside and decided not to inform me. Either way, unacceptable.

Ratings: • Food: 3/5 (decent but not worth the trouble) • Service: 0.5/5 (and that’s only because one server was decent) • Ambience: Looks good in pictures but is underwhelming in person

Final Verdict: 3.9 is an overrated score for Amazonia. The poor service, indifferent management, and lack of basic professionalism make it a firm NO from me. Not even the decor is worth the visit. Save your money and go somewhere that...

I recently dined at Amazônia, located at Ground Floor, Jet Airways, 05, near One BKC, Godrej BKC, G-Block, Bandra East, Mumbai, and I must say it was an absolutely delightful experience! As an avid Google reviewer, I often come across mixed feedback about various restaurants, and Amazônia was no exception. There were some negative reviews that made me a bit hesitant, but my passion for exploring new dining spots and forming my own opinions pushed me to give it a try. I’m so glad I did because this place exceeded my expectations in every way!

I made my reservation two days in advance, and it was smoothly confirmed by Forum, who was incredibly helpful. Upon arriving, I had the pleasure of meeting her in person, and we even shared a brief, pleasant conversation, which set a warm tone for the evening. The service throughout the night was impeccable, thanks to our servers, Calvin and Baharul. Both were attentive, friendly, and ensured that every need was met with a smile. Their professionalism and personalized touch made the dining experience feel special and seamless.

The menu at Amazônia is a culinary journey in itself, and I indulged in a variety of dishes as evidenced in the photos and videos. We started with the Butter Garlic Prawns (₹725) and Pan Grilled Fish (₹695), both of which were cooked to perfection with rich, flavorful seasonings. The Raspberry Cheese Flour (₹650) was a delightful surprise, offering a perfect balance of sweet and savory. The Black Stone (₹395) and Tom Yum Soup with Chicken added an exotic touch to the meal, with the soup being particularly aromatic and spicy in just the right way. The Som Tam (Asian Som Tam, ₹895 for two) were standout dishes, with the latter bringing a fresh, tangy crunch that I couldn’t get enough of. The Rainbow Roll (₹795), Pan Roast Lamb (₹725), Thai Green Curry (₹675), Chicken Kimbap (₹695), and Thai Basil Fish (₹750) were all executed with precision, showcasing a blend of Asian and international flavors that kept our taste buds intrigued. To wash it all down, we enjoyed Fresh Lime Soda (₹750 for three) and Lemongrass Spring (₹500), which were refreshing and perfectly complemented the meal. The total bill came to ₹10,799, including a 10% service charge and applicable taxes, which I found reasonable given the quality and quantity of food.

The ambiance was vibrant, with a tad bit loud music that initially caught me off guard. However, realizing it was a Saturday night, it added to the lively atmosphere and didn’t detract from the experience—rather, it made the evening feel festive! The restaurant’s location in the bustling BKC area also adds to its appeal, making it a convenient yet upscale dining option.

Overall, my hesitation was completely unwarranted. The exceptional service from Calvin, Baharul, and Forum, combined with the diverse and delicious menu, made this a memorable night. I highly recommend Amazônia to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in Mumbai.

One of the most overrated restaurants in BKC that is popular probably because of the visuals but a horrible experience overall. 1. Menu - The menu doesn't make sense. Inspired by the Amazon but serving food that is Italian, Indian, and East Asian?! How does that even make sense. If they can't serve Brazilian, serving anything from South America or another equatorial place, that would make sense. 2. Food - The food is average at best. Literally any other restaurant serving Italian or pan Asian or Indian has better food. 3. Décor - Again, inspired by the Amazon, but having no animals or plants from the Amazon makes no sense. It has giraffes, flamingos, ostriches, cheetahs and more, none of which are found in Amazon. 4. Experience - 30 minutes before the booking we get a message saying there is a dress code - "smart casuals", men men cannot wear open-toed footwear. Why the discrimination? Anyway, this wasn't told to us when we made the booking a week ago, but 30m mins prior to reservation. Additionally, I was wearing shorts and the staff let us in, but 30 mins later came to tell me that if I could avoid moving around a lot it would be great since other diners would see me in shorts. Apparently, it doesn't look classy. If they are really that bothered by it, they shouldn't be blasting random music, some of it was rap, which I'm sure doesn't seem "classy", now does it? 5. Music and lighting - while the choice of music was once again incoherent with the theme, it was unbelievably loud and way before the usual "let's blast loud music and make this a pub" time. They dimmed lights and were blasting music at 8:30 PM. Definitely not a fun experience. Overall, the place is trying too hard to be something it is not. The dress code bit, trying to have fixed slots and telling us several times that if we didn't make it within 15 mins of the reservation, they wouldn't be able to hold the table because they're so busy (we made it on time and they weren't), the decor and music which doesn't go with theme of the place, ... If I had to sum it up in one word - wannabe.
