Nara

Mumbai has a handful of restaurants dedicated to Thai Cuisine, Nara Thai is a specialty restaurant that provides a wide variety of thai and seafood dishes. Nara is located at the silicone valley of Bombay, Bandra Kurla complex.

Thailand is known for its beautiful beaches and tropical climate and due to the close proximity to India and similar culture, we Indians have developed an affinity to the country and its cuisine.

Representing a cuisine in India, especially in Bombay is not an easy task as we Mumbaikars are spoilt for choice, cause of the ever expanding restaurant scene. But once you have food at Nara you are sold to it for life. Every bite you take, gives you a sense of satisfaction that is measured to none. I have never been so lost for words when it comes to writing a review for a place I have visited. But you have to visit this place to understand what I mean when I say I'm lost for words! It's a food journey that cannot be compared to or written down in words.

Brought to India by the folks behind Yauatcha and Hakkasan, Nara Thai has eight branches in Bangkok and others in Singapore, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka. It's a brightly lit space with comfortable chairs, purple velvet couches and bevelled mirrors. Fancy but comfortable, ideal for family dinners or a date night.

Let's read what all I had and loved ?

While I was sipping on Butterfly pea icetea and my mom was sipping on Hat Yai Non Alcoholic.

Coming to the soups which the server suggested us to try was the Tom Kha chicken. A spicy coconut and galangal soup which has three options. Vegetarian / chicken / prawns.

Then we tried Yum phak boong Crispy morning Glory leaves served with chicken and prawns dip.

Goong phad mamuang pakchi pa Stir-fry prawns in mango and coriander

Hor mock pla John Dory wrapped in banana leaf.

Khao phad samunprai Butterfly pea rice with Thai herbs

Khao phad mamuag Spicy mango friend rice which has vegetarian / chicken option

Keang phed mamuang Mango red curry ( vegetarian / chicken / prawns )

After such a lovely meal I was craving for something sweet so we were recommended

khawheniyw mamuang Mango sticky rice with coconut milk

Khrep khek mamuang Mango crepe cake.

Whenever I take my mom along with me and she loves the meal and raves about it to me and my brother, that moment is what I live for. When a mother loves something that her son made her eat thats when the son is the happiest. The food at Nara Thai made my mom smile in happiness and I could see her enjoying every bite of the entire meal.

Nara Thai has become my first choice for Thai food, it has the kind of authentic thai experience I can enjoy with my family and friends. The staff are pretty well trained to guide you through a food journey that you would not stop talking about for days.

Special mention to servers Surendra and Vishal for helping me in choosing what all I should have.

Insiders tip

° Their crepes are possibly the best dessert you will have. ° The restaurant is extremely popular and...

Nara Thai is located right next to BKC One. The word Nara in Sanskrit means Thai woman. The brand Nara was actually founded by a group of thai women. This place is very beautiful. The staff here is very kind and attentive. As soon as you enter the restaurant you see some beautiful Violets. They serve some very authentic Thai cuisine.

Som Tum Salad The authentic Raw Papaya salad, with some Tomatoes, Peanuts, crushed Thai Bird’s Eye Chili and Green Beans. All this mixed with some fresh lime juice, it was perfect. ORDER IT! Rating - 10/10

Barbequed Tofu Tofu which was marinated with some Turmeric powder and Coconut. Was barbequed perfectly until golden from the outside and soft in the inside. It was served with some in house peanut sauce which was my favorite. Rating - 9/10

Tom Ka One of the finest Tom Kha I have ever had till date, it contains fresh Coconut Milk, Tofu Cubes, Mushrooms, Chili Oil and it was also flavoured with some Galangal and Lemongrass. ORDER IT! Rating - 10/10

Mun Farang Prik Klua It is similar to home cooked French Fries which is topped with finely chopped Red Chilies, Garlic, Ginger and tossed in the same. Kids will especially love it. Even I Loved it. ORDER IT! Rating - 10/10

Khao Phad Samunprai (Butterfly Pea Rice) The very beautiful looking Butterfly Pea Rice cooked with the help of Butterfly Pea Flowers. The are Blue in color and which gives the rice a unique avatar and also it has many nutritional values. The rice is tossed in some thai herbs and served along with some Tofu and Cashews. Rating - 9/10

Thai Green Curry One of the finest Green Curry I have ever had, it had the perfect consistency and the use of fresh ingredients enhanced the flavor in it. It had Coconut Milk, Kaffir Lime Leaves, Broccoli and Mushrooms in it. ORDER IT Rating - 10/10

Nara Coconut Ice Cream with Condiments The Ice Cream which they serve has tender Coconut in it. Which in itself is fantastic. What takes it to the next level is all the Condiments which come along with it, they have Lychee Cubes, Water Chestnuts, Peanuts, Sweet Corn, and two different flavored sweet rice. My Niece Loved it. It's perfect for children. Rating - 10/10

Thai Tea Crepe Cake 12 Layers of Crepes, stacked together with coconut cream in between was jaw droppingly beautiful. The first bite of it was soo satisfying. It's a must order here. ORDER IT! Rating - 10/10

I promise you won't miss Thailand after one visit to this Thai Food Heaven 💚

Being working in BKC for years, not once had I been to Nara. Never been a big fan of Thai food so this was never my first choice. But with a crunch of time and Nara being literally next door, happened to experience it... And what a life-changing experience it was!!!

AMBIANCE Outdoor seating is just gorgeous and the vibe is chill. Even for lunch, we got lucky with a pleasant weather. Little hangings in the outdoor area add to the charm and create an ambience. PA combination of couches, tables and high stools gives enough of options to choose based on your liking. Upholstery is quite upscale giving it a posh feel.

FOOD

✅ Tom Yum Soup Mildly spiced soup with loads of lemongrass and super soft tofu. I found the flavours of lemongrass to be overpowering. Overall it was decent.

❤️ Taohu Satay 12 pieces of marinated tofu arrived on 6 sticks alongside peanut sauce and vinegar-ed cucumber-onion dip. Marination of coconut & turmeric in bean-curd brings out mild & balanced flavours and is delicious. #MustHave

❤️Water Chestnut & Cashews (Phad Namprik Pao Haew Lae Med Mamunang) Who knew Singhala could turn out to be so tasty? Combination of water chestnut & cashews with Thai Sambal sauce was mind-blowing. If you can handle super spicy dishes, go for it. #yummy

❤️ Phad Thai Noodles Flat noodles in a sweet & tangy Tamarind sauce with a squeeze of lime, sprout beans, chilly flakes and peanuts on the side. I love the blend of sweet and spice and that's why it tops my chart! #SFFWrecommends

❤️ Green Thai Curry (Kang Kiew Warn) You can't go wrong with this one. I haven't been a fan of Thai curries but having it here has brought a shift in my choices. Mild taste of coconut milk, crunchiness of broccoli florets and succulent chunks of tofu made me fall in love. #MustHave

✅ Sticky Rice We called for a sticky rice to go with the Green Curry. A small portion came in a cane box. It was my first experience with sticky rice and it was decent.

The dessert options looked tempting but we were too full to order. That will probably have to wait until next time.

SERVICE Staff is courteous and very helpful when it comes to deciding on the dishes. You must come here with ample amount of time as service is quite slow. TBH the place is so relaxed and cosy, you won't feel like have a...

I was highly dissapointed and angry with their service. The food is also overhyped. We had the soups tom yum and tom ka both of them were food. For starters we ordered the tofu satay which was just average and then we ordered for the water chestnuts and cashews, this was a little better than the 1st one. For mains we ordered the red thai curry and the butterfly pea rice.i have had better thai curries and the rice is super duper hyped its just sticky and blue nothing much. For dessert we ordered the thai pannacotta the only thing which i felt was a must try and also we ordered for the coconut icecream with condiments, although the icecream was really good the condiments they give with it are really funny like sweet corn and sticky rice etc and they really do not go well with it. As far as the service is concerned i am highly dissapointed, there was this couple next to us who they must be knowing and they were continously criticizing the food there at nara and how that they dont like yautcha as well and that they only love thai pavilion and to show them that they are good enough too the people at nara were only busy making them taste and recommend things 🤢 lol they were criticizing you guys 🤣 why dont you take care of the other customers who are sitting nearby too so that they dont complain about your service later 🤣 and then the manager was there so he came and asked if we wanted any dessert i just by mistake said i want a thai creppe panacotta and he said in a rude tone they are 2 different things, if you can make a blunder in your service then cant i just by mistake say a thing please do not put your frustration of other customers on us 🤔 revisiting......... Never.

A nice ambience, decent service and good food. Sunday evening early dinner. We were the first to arrive and the hostess promptly took us to our seat. Waited ten minutes for the menu and finally got up and asked for the same. The waiter did get us the menu but took them another ten minutes to come back for the order after being asked. The startup niggles aside the service was prompt, all be it without too many smiles just like the front desk hostess. We ordered the fried noodles, batter coated beetle leaf, butterflied battered prawns, soft shelled crab and the fish cakes for appetizers. Of the same, the soft shell crab and the fish cakes stood out for their flavour. The thai milk tea granitas were served frozen and were practically all water, a simple milk thai ice tea would have been far better. The papaya salad ordered with prawns came without the prawns and seemed to have been prepared in bulk. The seasoning had made the salad watery by the time it was served. The saving grace was the grilled john dory fish which was perfectly flavoured and cooked. They did not carry the mango sticky rice on the particular night but their coconut gelato and thai milk tea ice cream were excellent. The coconut gelato was too small a portion compared to the thai milk tea ice-cream. The ambience was comfortable and the washroom hygiene impeccable. The place is on the more expensive side for Mumbai and the type of food it serves but still a decent option for thai food in Mumbai.
