Yet another fantastic evening at our favourite restaurant in the country. An impromptu dinner date saw us at the doors of O Pedro. I have a feeling there is something magnetic which draws us to this place anytime we are in Mumbai. Since this was a last minute plan and O Pedro is usually packed we weren’t sure of getting a table but the guys were nice enough to get us a bar seating for two. Our host for the evening was Satish and he was absolutely the best we have seen in a long time. His suggestions were spot on. I was a bit wary of the mushroom Ceviche although the Red Snapper Ceviche is my favourite dish there and we ordered that for sure. The sound of a mushroom variant wasn’t too appealing but Satish insisted we give it a try and now I am so glad we did. It is fabulous. A note. Resist the temptation to order seconds of the same dish. There is plenty of amazing food choices for mains and you need to keep some space for that. The 3rd starter was the prawn balchao with a Poi, the Goan bread. Finger licking delicious.
Our main course was the Beryls fish curry, made with dried mango and kokum coconut milk. It goes best with the Goan Red Rice. Yet another combo that you want to keep on eating long after your stomach has sent signals that there is no more space.
Satish suggested that we try the Chicken Xacuti curry however the Beryls being our favourite, we didn’t want to give up this opportunity of having what we love. Lo behold, he was incredibly sweet and got us a small bowl of the curry to try. It too is delicious and I’d surely order it next time.
Our standard go to Dessert is the Lisboa pas-tel de na-ta. It’s a warm egg custard tart with cinnamon ice cream. My mouth is watering as I write this review. It is in my opinion their signature dish.
What did break our hearts is that another brilliant dessert is not on the menu anymore. The cold goat cheese roll with pistachios.
Dear O Pedro please bring this one back. The lack of this reduces your star rating from a 7 to a measly 5. Seeing our disappointment, Satish made yet another suggestion. The Aunty’s Li’s serradura. It’s made with condensed milk and whipped cream, toasted biscuit crumbles, strawberries coulis and fresh strawberries. Though it doesn’t make up for the goat cheese roll it is a terrific dessert as well.
O Pedro has a terrific collection of Gin. We tried 4 different ones with elderflower tonic water. Each one was delicious.
Hats off O Pedro you have been and continue to be our absolute favourite. And you have a gem of a host in Satish.
2 suggestions.
Get the Goat cheese roll back.

Read moreSo let me start by stating that the food is absolutely brilliant!! My starter was fish ceviche and OMG was I totally blown away 🤯 yes!!! (BTW It's a cold dish) But this comes very close to the French style ceviche and my taste buds treasured it like those flavour bomb moments of absolute perfection. Now someone reading my review will be like what is she talking about this is definitely a paid review... LoL 😂 trust me after spending the money I would never even lie, about the water quality I am that critical when it comes to eating out. Moving on My second order was poi with 3 butters and man when I tell you only order one butter (chorizo) flavour it take you back those days where you were dipping poi in the oil from the pork chorizo cooked for breakfast but whipped and better (I would I have preferred it to be tad bit softer for the spreadable consistency) that's how prefer my butter but the warm poi with butter felt like blanket in the cold weather. The third was fish fry, coating was nice and crisp with soft fish at the centre that melts in your mouth and the final was prawns balchao again large well cooked prawns with good masala what else can you ask for. Sorry I can't give reviews on drinks as I was having lunch 😄 and as we all know desserts are always better elsewhere nothing personal but goan dessert doesn't tingle my taste buds and I always want to try new stuff. The guy who served us I think I am not wrong is his name was akshay (dude I am extremely sorry if I got your name wrong 😔) was very humble and courteous and made my entire experience very friendly and cosy.
In one line: full on paisa wasool. ❤️❤️❤️
PS: please keep tablemats I somehow am not comfortable eating on the raw wood it just doesn't feel hygienic that's all and again I love your food and hence would definitely recommend friends and family members.
People would be like kabhi khush nahi reh sakte kuch na kuch chaiye hi hota inko. 😂 Actually I wasn't looking for tablemat until I had to keep my used cutlery on the table and the idea of reusing it was a...
Read moreThis continues to be the legendary go-to for Goan and Portuguese cuisine. This is from the same group which also has Veronica's (the sandwich place at Bandra West), Bombay Canteen, Bombay Sweet Shop amongst others.
I had gone there recently (probably my 3rd or 4th visit there), and what struck me was the service quality, Two of us had reached early, and we decided to wait at the bar till the table got ready and the others arrived. The staff at the bar were exemplary - they started off by taking the effort in making sure we were comfortable (and we were not the only ones at the restaurant - it was packed - and they seem to be doing that for everyone!). They explained that the entire menu was also available at the bar. And then delved into the stories of the evolutions of different cocktails and mixes they could suggest. Sandeep and Ashang (spellings?) were super cool and so knowledgeable, and so good with making us feel included and yet not being pushy or overbearing in the least bit. They made us taste different taste bursts, made us fantastic cocktails (one of which was negroni bianco - strongly recommended) and even suggested food pairings which were spot on. I was so impressed.
And when we moved to the table, the same service quality, attention to the preferences and suggestions continued - by the same staff members as well as a new one (Kunal) who they "handed us over" to. :) All this when a restaurant is packed and buzzing. Kunal recommended great options from the menu based on our palette. And even suggested the right desserts, and kindly arranged for a Happy Birthday dessert as it was my friend's big day.
The food was great too - of course. The prawn balchao with the poee bread continues to remain the classic that it is. Give the other stuff a try too.
I thought the place was a tad too loud (with the music levels coupled with the happy chatter of the packed restaurant) for easy conversations while dining. But that doesn't take away too much from the experience.
Overall - totally...
