(Gore) Gaonwalo ab no more chakki peesing, as Idlish has made it's way to satiate all your hunger pangs for South Indian food. 😋
I was overjoyed to know that my favorite South Indian cafe has opened its doors for dine-in, after the lockdown.
🟡FOOD:
✅Kara Podi Mini Idli Idli is my all time favourite breakfast and something that I can practically live on. Mini idlis tossed in kara podi made it so flavourful that I kept craving for more. The piping hot sambar made it dish wholesome. #foreverfavorite
✅Dalwada This is ideally the last thing I would order. But our host recommended it strongly and I gave it a go. It was crisp from the outside and soft and steaming hot on the inside. They chutneys served alongside were a game-changer. Definitely changed my perspective towards Dalwada.
✅Iddiyapam with Malabari Veg Kurma Now, we're talking about some serious authentic food here. So call it ignorance or sheer bad luck, but I had NEVER tried this before. What looked like boiled thin Chinese noodles to me, are actually freshly made rice noodles, which originated ages back in the southern part of India. Served alongside was Malabari Kurma with a coconut & tomato based mixed ved curry. The combination was a perfect balance of flavours and it must be consumed hot. #MustTry
✅Tex Mex Cheese Lava Dosa After a series of typical Tamilian dishes, I moved to the fusion side of the menu. Their Dosa Taco and Pizza Uttapam was outstanding the last time I had tried, so this time round I choose the Cheese Lava Dosa with a Mexican twist. This reminded me of Gini dosa to some extent and I ate it till the last drop of cheese on my plate.
✅Potato Masala Paniyaram Paniyaram stuffed with Potato Bhaji is like having fist-sized Masala Dosa. All those potato lovers can't miss this one.
✅Pineapple Sheera 💛 Perfect way to end my meal. My sweet tooth wouldn't allow me to leave the restaurant without the popular Pineapple Sheera. And it was perfect. The sweetness was just right and the goodness of ghee gave it Ghar ka Swaad. #SFFWrecommends
✅Filter Kaapi 💯 The highlight of my meal! Okay, so you should know, I'm not a coffee person; especially strong coffee is not what I do, like never! So I ordered this purely because the host recommended and how glad am I, that I did! Even before the coffee arrived, it's aroma announced its arrival. The flavour hit my taste buds like never before. It was so good, I might end up visiting the cafe especially for the Kappi ☕ It's official, I'm spoilt for life!!! 🙈 #SFFWrecommends
🟡 SERVICE ❤️ What I love the most about this place (apart from food ofcourse 😋) is the warmth of the host. So humble, courteous and friendly. Recommendations are always on point! And gives homely feels 😇
🟡 SANITIZATION ☑️ Utmost care of sanitization is taken. Sanitizer & handwash are available and cleanliness is upto the mark.
🌰 NUTSHELL REVIEW There was a time when I'd drive down all the way to Matunga for authentic South Indian food. Fortunately, now I won't need to & neither...
Read moreWent here for breakfast. Food is genuinely good. No unnecessary masala, no artificial flavours. Fresh south indian food. It is a small place but the ambience is nice. Not crowded or claustrophobic. Would recommend it.
Updated review as on 7/9/25: After my first experience basis which I wrote the above review, my subsequent visits have been exactly opposite!
During my second visit, there was a big group at the restaurant and the owner and staff were busy managing orders of the group. Our order got delayed and several food delivery guys were also waiting for more than 30 minutes.
Today was my third visit, and the restaurant was relatively empty. The lady was very nice to talk and welcoming. She guided us through their menu and also recommended couple of items which we ordered. There were practically only 2 other guests apart from us who also were done with their food. So the kitchen had to prepare only our order. There was only one food delivery person waiting outside. Dosa from our order was delivered promptly. But the rest of the items just didn’t come to the table. Two more individual customers came much later than us and their dosas were also promptly served. After waiting for 30 minutes I told the lady that if our order is taking time then we can also order dosa since it is coming fast. She told us she will deliver the rest of the order soon. Dal vada from our order was served after that. But Veg Paniyaram & Piri Piri Mini Idli never came. After waiting for another 30 mins or so I finally asked to give us bill and cancel rest of the order. That’s when one of the waiters quickly brought a plate of Paniyaram which was cold to touch. I refused to eat it and insisted om bill for the 2 items served. The lady tried to justify the delay by saying that they were short staffed and hence the delay. My point is as the person managing the restaurant, you should know better what your team can deliver. Why are you convincing customers to order items which your staff cannot make on time and then use it as an excuse? I did not insist on those items, it was suggested by the restaurant staff. Why should I be made to wait and suffer for your team’s incompetence? Even a lot of food delivery boys were waiting outside for more than 30mins.
Today’s unpleasant experience has completely changed my view about this place. Food is good but they need some real improvement in service and honestly...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting the South Indian Style Cafe, and I must say it was a delightful experience that took my taste buds on a captivating journey through the rich and diverse flavors of South India. Nestled in a cozy corner, this cafe is a hidden gem for lovers of authentic South Indian cuisine. The interior decor was vibrant. The menu at the South Indian Style Cafe offered a wide variety of dishes. From the moment I saw the menu, I knew I was in for a treat. The options ranged from classic dosas, idlis and vadas. To start my culinary adventure, I ordered a texa mexa dosa, Kara poda idlis, a staple of South Indian cuisine. The dosa arrived on my table looking impeccably crispy and golden with fully loaded cheese. The first bite was an explosion of flavors, with the perfectly fermented rice and lentil batter complementing the spicy and aromatic potato filling. The accompanying coconut chutney and sambar were the perfect accompaniments, adding an extra layer of deliciousness to the dish.
Next, I tried their specialty filtered tea, and I was instantly transported to the streets of Chennai. Served in traditional brass tumblers and accompanied by a brass davarah, the tea was strong, aromatic, and had the right balance of sweetness. It was a true delight that left me craving for more. One aspect that stood out to me was the cafe's commitment to using high-quality ingredients. The flavors were authentic, and it was evident that care had been taken to ensure the dishes retained their traditional essence. The cafe also offered several gluten-free and vegan options, catering to a diverse range of dietary preferences.
The only minor downside I encountered was the limited parking availability, However, the overall experience overshadowed this inconvenience, and I found it well worth it.
In conclusion, the South Indian Style Cafe is a haven for those seeking an authentic culinary experience. From the inviting ambiance to the delectable dishes, this cafe captures the spirit of South India. If you're a fan of South Indian cuisine or are simply looking to explore new flavors, I highly recommend paying a visit to this hidden gem. Your taste buds will thank you for the delightful journey they...
