Canto -This restaurant name is derived from Italian word for song..It is located near sukhsagar chow patty. The same place where KARMA used to be many years ago .The interiors of this place are very beautifully done and gives a European feel. .Late nights post 10.30 pm lights go dim and music goes louder . it turns in to a lounge kinda place..They even do bollywood nights every saturday which pulls in lot of elder crowd fond of desi dance moves. Seeing the menu i could see great importance is given to vegetarian food and jain food considering a lot of gujaratis & marwadis stay in this locality . At the same time there are enough options for non vegetarian food lovers too.
This place serves Continental,Mexican,Italian & American cuisine.

Read moreCanto is a fine dining restaurant located in the heart of busy streets of Charni Road.
Food (5/5): Canto has a very interesting range of starters that can go really well with any alcoholic beverage of your choice. We went ahead with Bira on tap which was a very good decision as we got to enjoy 2+1 Happy Hours offer. We did not try any starters but the crowd favourite seemed to be the watermelon salad. If there is one thing that Canto helped me with was the transformation from someone who tries fish to someone who loves fish. We straight away went for the main course and ordered the Banana Wrapped fish. It was hands down the best fish I have ever had and honestly it will be very tough for other dishes to beat it for me. Patra fish cooked to perfection and served with the lip smacking jalapeno onion sauce and pan fried rice is just the kind of main course one would love on a busy Friday night. Loved the sauce so much that I ordered it again to go with my second Main course which was the grilled chicken with brown sauce. I would strongly recommend this as well for all the non sea food lovers as the chef at Canto makes sure that even if it takes a bit more time to get the dishes ready, they are worth the wait.
Ambience (5/5): 'First impression is the last impression' holds true here because I was honestly blown away by the decor and the ambience of the place. It clearly displayed how minimal things can constitute the most beautiful and inviting look and feel. It gives you a feeling of a reputed fine dining restaurant but with a tinge of its cafe-ness too. Perfect for a date I'd say !!
Service (5/5): Genuinely in awe of the service at the restaurant. We had to wait for 10 minutes at the bar to get our reserved table but the staff made sure that we were not ignored at all. We were given the table of our choice and the attendant took timely feedback from us regarding the taste and the service.
Value for money (5/5): We availed the Zomato Gold 1+1 offer along with 2+1 Happy Hours on tap beer which is very rare as most of the restaurants just let the users use 1 offer. Cost for 2 after this...
Read moreEvery year I make at least two trips to Canto, and in 2025 this was my first. Oh boy, how disappointing was the food - left hungry!
It was a celebratory late-night dinner with my family, and thus we had ordered mocktails and some small plates. The drinks, priced at ₹330, were a quarter of a glass served in mocktail glasses (again, not even filled halfway!!!). We finished the glorified fruit syrups in 5 sips. The most disappointing part of the meal. If you're going to serve a shot of fruit juice (just to be clear, without any pricey alcoholic inclusion), then at least make it worth remembering in taste or presentation. The lone tiny apple slice that was clearly manhandled a little too much was making it worse.
The food - I held fond memories of their calamari, so ordered that with just one other dish, the teriyaki chicken tacos. That was basically only chicken with a sprinkle of mango and another veggie. The struggle to eat added another demerit - there was no way to eat the tacos with the baby palm-sized thin tortillas. Had to resort to the spoon (?) and fork provided. Taste was good but for the price, nothing out of the ordinary.
The calamari... or lack thereof. Which squid baby was stolen from its mother??? These rings were the size of tiny coins - only fried batter visible. And when you bite into it, you get the hint of a squid piece. Squid is a seafood notorious for being chewy, so believe how shocked I was when it vanished in one chew. And the amount for the size... there was no winning with this dish.
The mozzarella sandwich for our vegetarian - cheese on toast is fine, but stop compensating on the ingredients in the main dish with a mountain of fries; it's quite disappointing. No taste.
We were hungry but then decided against ordering more, in fear of further disappointments with a huge price tag. Canto, I used to recommend you as my favourite near Opera House, but not anymore. Improve the quantity of your drinks if you want to actually attract more customers on a...
