Canto -This restaurant name is derived from Italian word for song..It is located near sukhsagar chow patty. The same place where KARMA used to be many years ago .The interiors of this place are very beautifully done and gives a European feel. .Late nights post 10.30 pm lights go dim and music goes louder . it turns in to a lounge kinda place..They even do bollywood nights every saturday which pulls in lot of elder crowd fond of desi dance moves. Seeing the menu i could see great importance is given to vegetarian food and jain food considering a lot of gujaratis & marwadis stay in this locality . At the same time there are enough options for non vegetarian food lovers too.

This place serves Continental,Mexican,Italian & American cuisine.

Coming to the variety of dishes i tried here

Salad

Caesar salad-A healthy way to begin .Salad with capers, lettuce, mayonnaise and parmesian crisp..very fresh and very loveable..I liked it personally

Mocktails

Citrus swag- refreshing mock tail.Fresh orange ,basil, lemongrass juice.it has a sweet-sour taste ..best of 2 mock tails i tried here

Cool cucumber-Chilled cucumber flavour mock tail..Average .. Citrus swag is way better to have according to me.

Starters

Mushroom on Toast-Buttered toast with parmesan and balsamic jaggery on it . mushrooms on top enhance the flavour . this starter is for mushroom lovers ..

Ragda Bao- Bao is very soft & fresh.small in size . mint chutney, mayonnaise accompanied with ragda patty bao..Well made starter.

Hariyali paneer Bao-Since i liked ragda bao.I even went for Hariyali paneer Bao.Yummy.I liked it even more than ragda bao.It has laccha onion, mint chutney, mayonnaise accompanied with hariyali paneer .Must try .signature starter of canto for me

Dimsum-Decently made.Warm dimsums served.Asparagus dimsums .newly introduced dish

Pizzas.

Half n half pizza-Sweet of them to serve a half n half pizza so i could try 2 flavours in 1 pizza.

milano pizza -Thin crust pizza with cheese, red onion, jalepeno, garlic toppings.

Veggie delight pizza-classic veggie supreme pizza .Treat for vegetarian lovers. These are stone baked pizzas..

Main course

Ratatouille crepe-A new way to eat ratatouille. Its rolled in crepe, flavoured with tomato and other roasted veggies ..Very tasty crepe.i loved it

Goat cheese sandwich- Marinated goat cheese ,pan tossed tomatoes & walnut pesto served on brown loaf bread.Healthy sandwich.Worth trying

Veg lasagne-Olive oil, sautee garlic, tomato puree, chilli powder, oregano used in preparation of this yummy lasagne .I had it in a small portion .its very filling .

Desserts

Molten chocolate-Warm,tasty .One of the best molten chocolate i have had served with vanilla ice cream in recent times...Do try it out

Chocolate fondue-A new dessert introduced by the owners of Canto on insistance of their own kids. Thank god they heard their kids and added this gem dessert in their menu..Absolutely fantastic.Spear dippers with fondue forks .dip in to fondue.Heavenly taste ...Dont miss out on this.Chocolate sauce is just perfect.Niether thick nor thin.

Overall i had a good dining experience. Its a great place to listen to good music, enjoy at the bar with drinks, have some good food ..One of a kinda restaurant in opera house locality.

Definitely worth a visit .Do try it out...

Canto is a fine dining restaurant located in the heart of busy streets of Charni Road.

Food (5/5): Canto has a very interesting range of starters that can go really well with any alcoholic beverage of your choice. We went ahead with Bira on tap which was a very good decision as we got to enjoy 2+1 Happy Hours offer. We did not try any starters but the crowd favourite seemed to be the watermelon salad. If there is one thing that Canto helped me with was the transformation from someone who tries fish to someone who loves fish. We straight away went for the main course and ordered the Banana Wrapped fish. It was hands down the best fish I have ever had and honestly it will be very tough for other dishes to beat it for me. Patra fish cooked to perfection and served with the lip smacking jalapeno onion sauce and pan fried rice is just the kind of main course one would love on a busy Friday night. Loved the sauce so much that I ordered it again to go with my second Main course which was the grilled chicken with brown sauce. I would strongly recommend this as well for all the non sea food lovers as the chef at Canto makes sure that even if it takes a bit more time to get the dishes ready, they are worth the wait.

Ambience (5/5): 'First impression is the last impression' holds true here because I was honestly blown away by the decor and the ambience of the place. It clearly displayed how minimal things can constitute the most beautiful and inviting look and feel. It gives you a feeling of a reputed fine dining restaurant but with a tinge of its cafe-ness too. Perfect for a date I'd say !!

Service (5/5): Genuinely in awe of the service at the restaurant. We had to wait for 10 minutes at the bar to get our reserved table but the staff made sure that we were not ignored at all. We were given the table of our choice and the attendant took timely feedback from us regarding the taste and the service.

Value for money (5/5): We availed the Zomato Gold 1+1 offer along with 2+1 Happy Hours on tap beer which is very rare as most of the restaurants just let the users use 1 offer. Cost for 2 after this...

Every year I make at least two trips to Canto, and in 2025 this was my first. Oh boy, how disappointing was the food - left hungry!

It was a celebratory late-night dinner with my family, and thus we had ordered mocktails and some small plates. The drinks, priced at ₹330, were a quarter of a glass served in mocktail glasses (again, not even filled halfway!!!). We finished the glorified fruit syrups in 5 sips. The most disappointing part of the meal. If you're going to serve a shot of fruit juice (just to be clear, without any pricey alcoholic inclusion), then at least make it worth remembering in taste or presentation. The lone tiny apple slice that was clearly manhandled a little too much was making it worse.

The food - I held fond memories of their calamari, so ordered that with just one other dish, the teriyaki chicken tacos. That was basically only chicken with a sprinkle of mango and another veggie. The struggle to eat added another demerit - there was no way to eat the tacos with the baby palm-sized thin tortillas. Had to resort to the spoon (?) and fork provided. Taste was good but for the price, nothing out of the ordinary.

The calamari... or lack thereof. Which squid baby was stolen from its mother??? These rings were the size of tiny coins - only fried batter visible. And when you bite into it, you get the hint of a squid piece. Squid is a seafood notorious for being chewy, so believe how shocked I was when it vanished in one chew. And the amount for the size... there was no winning with this dish.

The mozzarella sandwich for our vegetarian - cheese on toast is fine, but stop compensating on the ingredients in the main dish with a mountain of fries; it's quite disappointing. No taste.

We were hungry but then decided against ordering more, in fear of further disappointments with a huge price tag. Canto, I used to recommend you as my favourite near Opera House, but not anymore. Improve the quantity of your drinks if you want to actually attract more customers on a...

Canto Cafe and Bar in Mumbai is truly one of my favorite places to visit, and it has become a go-to spot whenever I want to enjoy some great food and a lively atmosphere. The moment you enter, you can feel the vibrant vibe that makes the place so special. It’s the perfect blend of cozy and energetic, creating an inviting environment whether you’re there for a casual hangout or a celebratory night out. The food at Canto is consistently delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Among my all-time favorite dishes are their cheese fondue and chocolate fondue, which are absolutely irresistible. The cheese fondue is rich, creamy, and flavorful, pairing perfectly with an assortment of fresh bread and vegetables for dipping. The chocolate fondue is a decadent treat, ideal for sharing with friends or indulging in a little sweet escape. Both dishes highlight the quality and care that Canto puts into their menu, making every visit memorable. Beyond the food, what makes Canto Cafe and Bar stand out is its cleanliness and hygiene standards. In today’s world, finding a place that prioritizes this is a huge plus for me, and Canto never disappoints. The staff is attentive and friendly, contributing to an overall enjoyable and hassle-free experience. Whether it’s a busy weekend or a quiet weekday, the atmosphere always manages to be fun and lively without feeling overwhelming. The combination of tasty food, clean environment, and great vibe makes Canto Cafe and Bar a fantastic destination in Mumbai. It’s a place where I always look forward to spending my time, enjoying delicious meals, and making great memories. For anyone looking for a chill yet vibrant spot with excellent food and a welcoming atmosphere, Canto Cafe and Bar should definitely be on the list. This cozy yet lively venue perfectly captures the spirit of fun dining and socializing.

Canto is located on the corner of a busy street and is pretty hard to miss even in all the traffic because of it's blue facade. The styling on the facade and the interior decor is suave, classy, and elegant. The tables are well spaced out, and even the high chairs are quite comfortable. They have a pretty chic bar which is beautifully arranged in an old-school manner. The mirror-like frame of the bar adds to the already a la mode bar. The attendants were quite courteous and pleasantly behaved. We went there in the afternoon - read happy hours - and ordered a draft beer each. To my surprise, the bartender knew how to serve draft beer - contrary to most other places in town. He filled the beer in the mug so that the collar almost brimmed over - let it settle, and then filled the mug again until the brim - just the way it should be done. With beer, we also ordered poutine with shredded chicken and a margharita pizza with chicken. The poutine was great, the fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and even the sauces tasted delicious. The shredded chicken also went beautifully with the taste of the sauces in the poutine - although, I wish they would also have added barbeque sauce to the poutine. The margharita pizza was disappointing - it tasted as if it were a bit stale - the cheese seemed a bit chewy and even the crust wasn't very crisp. When we asked for the bill, the attendant asked us how the food was. When we mentioned that we didn't like the pizza very much, he was quick to offer a complimentary dessert. Although, the complimentary dessert doesn't make the pizza taste any better, but it was quite a gesture on their part - kudos for the service! We had the molten chocolate with vanilla - and it was indeed delectable - a must try here, if I dare say.

Located in Grant Road, this eatery will surely make you feel in awe of the great display of lights, art and decor making this place look just up to the mark. The cafe is quite spacious. The ambiance surely feels attractive and welcoming. After being impressed by the atmosphere of the place we hoped the food would be as great as their surroundings. Talking about food, we started by ordering Nachos. They were freshly baked nacho chips which were good in terms of size, taste and crispness topped with curry leaf flavored cheese sauce, Mexican salsa, and sour cream. The quantity was really good and the cheese and salsa were in great proportion with the nachos which didn’t leave the nachos dry in the end. Second up we ordered the Pesto Pasta. The pasta had a prompt taste of fresh basil and garlic topped with melted buffalo mozzarella that did wonders for the dish. Although we strongly feel this pasta could’ve been better but it wasn’t that bad either. To satisfy our hunger we decided to dig in with some good ol’ Burger. We ordered the Vegetable Burger that had aloo tikki, tomato mustard relish & melted cheddar. The burger was served with fresh crispy peri-peri rubbed fries and red cabbage slaw- yay to that! The relish was extremely nice and thick making it a really juicy burger. All the flavors of the burger made it one good satisfying dish! The staff was extremely courteous and quick on their feet. We didn’t have to wait long for our food to arrive. Canto cafe and bar is a must try for all you foodies out there. With quality food, amazing decor and great music you will definitely have a good time! FOODSCAPADES RATES: 8.5/10
