An open letter to @newyorkermumbai , girgaum chowpatty.
Dear Newyorker Mumbai,
I had the worst experience today on Eid and never ever expected it from your restaurant. My 2 year old son was hungry so we decided to head to @newyorker around 11:00. After a 15 min parking hunt we walked a long way to reach the restaurant at 11:20ish.
The usherer told us that the restaurant was closed while there were plenty of people sitting inside and eating. A couple who arrived after us with their child was told the same..but they went in anyway pushing away the usherer.
While we requested to talk to the manager. We did let ourselves in following the other couple, while the manager quickly came to us and said that we are closed, (but the restaurant was not even near to closing scenes)
Manager someone called Mr. Perumal (funny) refused us a seat and was rude to the bits. I soon realised it was only for us because I was wearing a “Burkha” while the other couple who came in after us were made to sit. The manager also said that @newyorkermumbai is his restaurant and that he has the right to refuse while we argued that the CLOSING HOURS OR BOARD were not on the door in the first place.. so how will a passerby know that the restaurant is closing. However I checked on google for timings and they were 12 pm - 12 am.
Which means we were 45 mins before the closing hours yet we were denied a service, food for our 2 year old son. It was clear that they didn’t want a Muslim customer at their restaurant. Plus the manager was rude and lacked basic manners (customer relationship)
Overall, it was a horrid and humiliating experience at a place where I had fond memories of as a college student.. but unfortunately it has reduced to such low and hostile towards a certain sect!
Shame on you and your management to have such an attitude towards helpless parents trying to find food for their 2 year old baby.
You might serve the best nachos in Mumbai but you have definitely failed to serve basic courtesy and humanity to your (un)loyal customers.
Woe on you guys!

P.S. I will never recommend this place to anyone from my circle of friends and family!

Read moreThis place was one of my favourites back in the day, school parties, college meets! Just loved the vibe and the food was simply outstanding! Somehow it's been ages that we never called for food or went their for a meal. I was shortlisting some places for a special occasion to call for a delivery in these times of restrictions and pandemic. I stumbled upon New Yorkers and it took me less than 5 secs to decide.
Delivery was a little late I guess, some technical issues at the restaurant, but not a huge delay. So we called for Onion Rings, the all time favourite. Were still quite crisp and hot by the time it reached home, so that was good. Chilli Cheese Toast was a little tad disappointing though. Also it has cheese layering was less and grilled. Cheese wasn't the melting one, but a tad burnt. The toast was way to thick for my liking, something which the restaurant should work on.
I though quite liked the pizzas. We called for the 9.5 inches thin crust Classic Margherita Pizza which has cherry tomatoes and Exotica Pizza which has Olives, Bell Peppers, Corn, Jalapenos and Zucchini. Both pizzas have mozzarella cheese and we called for whole wheat base. No complaints whatsoever, great pizzas. Here's hoping my next visit to New Yorkers or delivery from there wouldn't be after...
Read moreI was here a couple of months back with a couple of cousins, on a Sunday afternoon. The interior is pretty suave and the ambiance is relaxed and bright, just as it ought to be. Even the service was great, which is what is expected from a restaurant on Chawpatty seaface! We ordered peri peri potato wedges, pizza cubes, fajita sizzler, and forestale pizza. We'd also ordered lemonade before the food and they were kind enough to make the lemonade as each of us asked. Even the food was great, the pizzas were neither too cheesy nor to saucy, and were perfectly cooked. Even the peri peri potato wedges were delectable. However, the fajita sizzler was a bit of a disappointment. However, the major disappointment was when I saw the bill - they had blatantly added the service charge to the total bill amount - which, they have no right to charge on the bill. After mentioning to the captain, they promptly removed the charges - but had we not checked the bill, we'd have ended up paying the service charge as well as a tip! After this incident, we refrained for tipping as well, although the food and service was good. It is this incident which prevents me from giving a higher rating - but the service and the food easily deserves...
