Rating: 5/5 (definitely a must visit, great variety and VFM too)
This old favourite (Chili Flakes) has been rebranded as Charcoal Eats, the menu has changed significantly but one of the most important things remains: Passion! Passion to feed good food to people at reasonable rates, consistently across their outlets!!
So, when their PR team contacted me to review their Dadar outlet, I happily said yes! The experience was positive, just like at all their other outlets present across Mumbai & I can safely recommend this chain for their yummy food!! That they are extremely popular as a dine-in option via the delivery apps was visible to me as well, as I counted at least 20-25 deliveries happening in the 1.5 hours I sat at their Dadar outlet!! Great deals on their own app as well, do check those out too!!
We had:
BBQ Loaded Fries: what I really loved about this version of BBQ fries is that the fries are generously lathered with both BBQ sauce and Mayo, which takes away some of the excess pungency of the BBQ sauce (yep, I am not a huge BBQ sauce fan but mayo, oh bring on the mayo anytime!). The fries in the box remain crisp and well fried, no soggy or raw fries here to report, phew!! Easy Recommend for all you fries freaks.... plus at 119 Rupees, the quantity is enough to fill you up! VFM!!
Chicken Mughlai Paratha: think Baida Roti with yummy chicken filing and that is exactly what you get! It was served piping hot, smelt great and I even tried some (upon the insistence of my companion) & I can easily recommend it to anyone who loves their Chicken and Baida Roti, especially at that reasonable price of 149 Rupees, for which you get 4 chunky pieces of this yummy paratha!!
Veg Masala Biryani: while my companion was already full from the BBQ Fries and Paratha, I did venture to taste some of this biryani, which comes accompanied with a small packet of Curd and a yummy raita masala mix (god, I absolutely love that masala, especially when mixed with the curd)! The biryani itself was great, the rice was perfectly cooked and they use this masala that is basically cooked over charcoal pieces, which gives it this nice and smoky aftertaste! I definitely think this is one of the best biryanis out there in Bombay, especially at the reasonable price of INR 279 for Veg, which can definitely feed more than 1 person at a time! Their quantity is generous and I definitely recommend you try their Paneer Makhani Biryani, which I have tasted at their Warden Road outlet and was lovely too!!
Peach Iced Tea: this is a pretty, well presented bottle of Brewhouse Classic Peach Iced tea, which I would have enjoyed more had the drink been even cooler! Disappointingly, they did not have any ice to add to this baby and I ended up drinking what could have been a much better Iced Tea, if only the temperature was more to my liking!! The overall taste, though, was good and what I was glad about was that the drink didn't have too much added sugar! Do Try it out folks....80 Rupees seems reasonable for a large bottle of this drink as well!!
Salted Caramel Mousse: we ended the meal with this lovely dessert, which is easily one of my fave mousses coming out of a box these days! It has a lovely salty, caramel flavour and even though it is frozen, the texture and consistency remains! Wherever they are sourcing this from, it is a very good supplier and I am sure this shall remain a fave, especially when I order in their food from this or other outlets....worth it at 129 Rupees, which may seem a little steep for a dessert, but trust me, it is amazing!!
All in all, they remain a definite MUST GO TO if good taste at a reasonable price remains your priority, as it should I suppose!
5/5 team, please keep the consistency going and the prices reasonable!
I'll keep coming back or...

Biryani is an elusive dish; very rare that one gets one’s hands on a decent dish of Biryani which satiates the senses & stomach as well.
I had ordered for 2 out of the available vegetarians options from their menu. Sadly no vegetarian options are available in starters whereas the non-vegetarians have Kebabs.
The expectations start building up as soon as the pack arrives. The pack is attractive and a lot of attention has been paid to the details. The box has 2 slots; one horizontal to hold the tray which contains the Biryani and another circular slot to hold the cup / bowl of Curd. One plastic spoon, seasoning for the Dahi, paper napkin and toothpick are provided along inside the pack. No need to run around to arrange for the cutlery, just open the pack & dig in.
Steaming hot Biryani is layered in a food grade container and then sealed. The aroma of the caramelized onions which arises once the foil is opened is very nice and the expectations heighten even more.
VEG AFGHAN BIRYANI [INR 230] This Biryani is made with white rice and is a mild Biryani but the menu had shown it a spicy one. The base masala was mild from yoghurt and cashew. In addition to the base, some vegetables like finely diced carrots, French beans and baby corn were added. Only let down was that some grains were broken. RECOMMENDED if you like a mild tasting Biryani.
PANEER & VEGETABLE BIRYANI [INR 220] This Biryani is made with yellow rice and topped with birista [deep fried onion slices till they turn golden brown]. The Biryani had green peas, carrots and small cubes of soft Paneer. The masala was slightly high on the spice content. Initially I thought that maybe after mixing the base masala and the rice, the taste would be balanced properly but the spice was overriding.
CHOCOLATE MOUSSE [INR 70] Though I am not great fan of Chocolate Mousse, this was a wonderful way to end a hearty meal. A nice gooey mixture made from milk, sugar, cream and chocolate. This dish is Chef’s special preparation. RECOMMENDED.
Delivery is spot on and the Biryani is delivered decently hot. The staff was courteous to call and confirm my order because the application had become non-responsive after making the payment.
Price wise this place scores some good points as the Biryani is decently priced for the quantity served. The portion is just about enough for one person with an average appetite, on a very hungry stomach 2 Biryani’s will do a good job.
Charcoal Biryani does a fairly decent job at providing a wholesome meal at affordable prices. But the search for a “GOOD” Biryani is never ending I guess but better so as it giving out good options..
Happy Eating!
