JIA- The Oriental Kitchen
❖ Location- located on the lane going to Gate way of India, I am sure a restaurant can’t have a better location than this. Colaba area has always produced amazing restaurants serving satisfied food to your palate and soul.(5/5)
❖ Theme-A fine dine restaurant serving truly fine oriental food is what I can say about JIA.(4/5)
❖ Ambience- First impression itself gives you wow factor as soon as you enter inside. Lighting is done very correctly and almost each table has on focus light which was really wow I felt. Sitting is really comfortable with couches and chairs. Got side tables and middle tables are round and big enough for a good group of friends or family. (4.5/5)
❖ Service/staff- Very nice and ever welcoming staff giving you comfort with their suggestions and recommendations all the time. Mr. Akhilesh who was taking care of us knew each and every dish and the ingredients which goes in it.(4.5/5)
❖ Food and Beverage- When it comes to a fine dine restaurant, food and beverage is most important area which we consider. This section of JIA has one of the best oriental food in town to be honest. Beverage menu is really nice and so does food menu. Somehow I felt beverage has taken a back sit in this restaurant when it’s compared with food. Restaurants serving oriental food in Mumbai have lot of similar dishes in their menu but here it was really different and better options available. (4.5/5) Beverage- • GREEN APPLE TWIST (Cocktail) - A vodka based cocktail with green apple flavour, small cubes of green apple, mint, lemon and sugar. A perfect drink to start.(4/5)
• GINGER PASSION (Mocktail)- Very good and refreshing blend of ginger and passion fruit.(5/5)
Food- • Dim Sums- SPICY HARGOW WITH TRUFFLE- A perfect blend of truffle and prawn Hargow (Known for prawn dim sum in Cantonese) garnished with caviar. (4.5/5)
• Sushi-
RAINBOW ROLL- A sushi made with expensive ingredients like Salmon, Hamachi (fish), Crab, Avocado and Tuna topped with fish eggs. A must order flavoursome dish which was looking super tempting. (4.5/5)
• Appetizer- PEPPER CHILLI TENDERLOIN- WOW, tenderloin cubes cooked in black pepper chilli sauce along with spring onions, mix peppers, whole garlic cloves, red chillies and topped with shitake mushrooms. As it named, meat was really tender and juicy (wasn’t chewy at all). Strongly Recommended. (5/5)
• Main course- KING PRAWNS IN TOBANJAN CHILLI SAUCE- Super huge size king prawns cooked with tail on in tobanjan chilli sauce (sauce made from red chillies, spices, red pepper miso) it was one of the best dish I had in JIA. Spiciness was balanced superbly. A must try. (5/5)
FIVE TREASURE MUSHROOM FRIED RICE- WOW dish. A sticky rice cooked with Shimeji, Shitake, Woodear, White Fungus, Trumpet and truffle served along with it. Service staff mixes truffle in rice on your table itself. Amazing dish friends. Don’t miss this. (5/5)
• Desserts- MILK CHOCOLATE PRALINE- a must have dessert after a delicious meal. A milk chocolate praline mouse coated with thin layer of chocolate and served along with quenelle of icecream.(5/5)
❖ My Recommendations- • Spicy Hargow with Truffle • Pepper chilli Tenderloin • King prawns in tobanjan chilli sauce • Five treasure mushroom fried rice with truffle • Milk chocolate praline • Mogo mogo tea ❖ Why you should visit- • Excellent Location • Wow Interiors • Authentic fine Oriental food • Value for money
❖ To sum up- One of the best oriental food I ever had in Mumbai. Place has everything to be honest as I mentioned. You will get wow feel as soon as you enter and that wow feel stays on your palate even after you leave the place with satisfied meal. A must visit place friends.

Located on the main road just off Gateway Of India on the ground floor of Dhanraj Mahal on C. S. Marg, Colaba; JIA The Oriental Kitchen is a Fine Dine restaurant serving both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian options for Asian, Chinese and Japanese cuisines. With a warm welcome, we were greeted by the staff members who allocated a table to us. They have a beautiful and romatic ambience with dim lights and modern sculptures as well as a beehive theme depicting their name JIA meaning Family. Valet parking is available and they also provide chopsticks for kids/beginners which are easy to use. We visited this place on a Thursday night for early dinner at 7 and we had reserved a table so it was easy to get space but even on a weekday by 8ish the restaurant was buzzing with groups of people and business delegates. They have separate menu for drinks and food and the menu is wide with many options to choose from.
Below is food and drinks what we had at JIA:
Mocktails: Thai Iced Tea – One of the best Iced Tea wihhc we had till date. Definitely Recommended !! Banana Avocado Smoothie – Made with fresh avocado, banana and milk, this was served in a martini glass and was healthy too.
Sushi: Avocado and Edamame Roll – Made from Avocado, edamame, cheese and topped with spicy mayo, these were exceptionally good sushi which we loved. Recommended !!
Dimsum: Corn Asparagus Waterchestnut Dumpling – loved the combination of flavor which had corn with asparagus and crunchy waterchestnut in a yellow dumpling. Vegetable and Chive Dumpling – This one had diced vegetables like carrot, water chestnut, lotus root, flower chive and with a hint of celery. With a perfect thin coating, these were great.
Appetizer: Honey Chilli Crispy Lotus Roots – sliced lotus roots toosed with honey chilli sauce. Served in a yellow basket, these fried lotus roots were a little on the sweet side but still great. Spicy Tofu with Truffle Oil – It was made from Japanese silken tofu tossed in hot pepper sauce with truffle oil and we liked its taste. The tofu was tender while the pepper sauce balanced the flavor.
Main Course: Silken Tofu with Vegetables in Black Bean Sauce – We really picked a super dish and were so happy after eating this. Silken Tofu were stuffed with crystal asparagus, waterchestnut and diced carrots and served in one of the most amazing way. It was accompanied with Black Bean Sauce which was heavenly too. Recommended !! Edameme Fried Rice with Chinese Olives - Fried Rice with Edameme and olives, this went well with the main course vegetable. We also enjoyed having it plain with the Black Bean Sauce. Recommended !!
Dessert: Chocolate Hazelnut Mousse – An amazing pick again, a sinful combination of chocolate and hazelnut mousse where not only the presentation but also the taste was awesome. We truly loved it and could not get over with it. Recommended !!
Overall, we had a super dinner at JIA The Oriental Kitchen. A little expensive but its worth it with the OOMPH of food and service offered. We would like to extend a special gratitude to our table servers Ching and Deepak as well as manager Surendra and Chef as well as team JIA for making our day special. Food is great and we loved it. Definitely visiting back to try other things.

Read moreJia - from the House of Royal China. This place hs class. It can be called a FINE DINE which serves Asian/Sushi/Chinese. Open from noon till 3.30 and 1900 till 11.30 pm. Ambiance is good. Interiors are nice, service is good. Overall it has an Inviting feel and a good vibe. Was there yesterday. Apart from one NON Veg dish it was all Vegetarian that we asked for. A Beer to start with. Most of the restaurants serve Khimchi , Jia has radish with Sweet Chili and Finely sliced jalapenos.
Dim Sums - Truffle edamame / Vegetable and Chive ( not experimenting much stuck to the basics ) These guys make it really well. Served piping hot. Texture was perfect. Truffle edamame had truffle plus truffle oil - aroma at ts best. Nice stuffing. Melts in the mouth, delicately prepared. Vegetables and Chives - Diced Vegetables (Carrot/celery/water chestnuts/lotus roots and flower chives) yum. Do try this with the dips.
When at Jia order the mantao bread ( Fried ) Basically a chinese steamed BUN but on request they do fry the same. Lovely golden texture and tastes good. A tad sweet, that's how its suppose to be. Very popular In Northern China.
Sushi - Jia special ( These days it's all about Modern cuisine ) Basically lot of elements Truffle/avocado/crispy asparagus Tempura with chef's special sauce. Had the crunchiness from the Tempura. Overall presented well Nice and Subtle in taste. A bit creamy.
Cheung Fun - new in the menu. It's a thick Rice Noodle. ( texture wise looks like tofu ) but tasted fantastic. Cantonese speciality served a lot in Hong Kong. They have good options for both veg and non veg. We asked for Vegetarian with bean sprouts and soya chili. Basically all the elements are sauteed. Gives a nice punch at the same time texture is lovely. Must try.
Salad : Normally have the Raw Papaya. opted for LONGEVITY VEG - loved it. Its simple yet classy. It's all about the sauce. Honey sweet chili sauce crushed peanut and fried potato dressing. salad consists of carrots lettuce crispy bean thread noodles. Pour the sauce , have it with the lettuce. A great dish for the veggies. Do try.
Mains : Sauteed Stir fry Greens ( simple ) Pok Choy / Beans / water chestnut / asparagus / broccoli tossed and that's all about it. No Rocket science. Light and fresh.
Prawns in homemade XO sauce - Frankly prawns a bit overdone. A bit hard to cut. Chef look into this. XO is a premium sauce ( hong kong origin ) could have been more spicy. Lot of elements used. Garlic being distinct/Onion/bell pepper/mushrooms. a small miss.
Burnt Garlic rice - simple , no flaws.
Dessert - Baked Mango yogurt. Presentation perfect. Tasted good. Do try. Light at the same time a bit compressed. loved the flavours.
Overall experience - Had a great time at JIA. There is plenty to select for if one is a vegetarian. Do go for it. Place has class. Two levels. Some amazing cocktails i heard.
Till we meet...
