This was my second visit to Effingut, and I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed it as much as my first visit.
Effingut is rather technologically advanced, patrons are required to scan a barcode to access the menu. Although this process may be slightly inconvenient, it is the only option available. Guys please do spare a thought for those not so tech savvy!
For our beverages, we indulged in the Pineapple Cooler Mocktail, Virgin Bloody Mary, Sangria, and Antiquity Whiskey, all of which were exceptionally delicious.
Moving on to our appetizers, we ordered the Piri Piri Chicken, Buffalo Strips, and Chicken Sausage Platter, accompanied by Onion Rings and Potato Wedges. For our main course, we opted for the Pizza Americano, Belgian Baby Back Ribs, and Garlic Tomato Pasta. The starters and mains were absolutely delightful. Every dish was done to perfection. The baby ribs were tasty, little fat and succulent.
However, I must express my disappointment with the desserts, the Death by Chocolate and Tiramisu. The Tiramisu, which translates to "pick me up" or "cheer me up" in Italian was literally a put me down types. While it did possess layers, it was heavily dominated by whipped cream, strong coffee and the thinnest layer of cake instead of the quintessential ladyfingers. As for the Death by Chocolate, it failed to live up to its name, lacking the intensity and richness that I associate with such a dessert.
Effingut can be noisy, dimly lit but if you have great company like I did, it's worth a visit. I would have given you an A++ if it were not for the Tiramisu and Death...
Read moreHad recently been to South Mumbai for some work so decided to head over to Effingut’s Colaba outlet for lunch.
A very well-appointed space, reminiscent of the Baner outlet, Effingut Colaba too had the warm and welcoming feeling that everyone has come to expect and love at Effy. #secondhomecoming
Visiting Effingut and not trying their beers is a cardinal sin, one that I was not planning on committing. After sampling all 12 of their beers currently on tap at Colaba, I ended up ordering one (unfortunately I do not remember its name) which had a wonderful golden yellow tone to it and very fresh on the palate. Definitely sessionable, could’ve easily downed a few pints of it had I not been driving back to Pune.
Not being too hungry, we opted to share two appetizers and split a main.
The Loaded Nachos [Rs. 395] were delicious while the Kung Pao Chicken [Rs. 375] had an amazing spiciness to it. Best accompaniment to any of their chilled beers.
We really wanted to try the Butter Chicken at Colaba however it was being served with Malabar Parotha as absence of the tandoor meant no roti or naan. Didn’t really want to try this North Indian curry meets South Indian bread combination so opted for the Chicken Khao Suey [Rs. 425].
The Khao Suey was just as brilliant and amazing as we have had here in Pune and we ended up polishing (read scraping) the bowl clean.
Manu has done a wonderful job of bringing a bit of Pune to Mumbai so that finally even...
Read moreYet another place trying to cash in on the microbrewery fad. Avoid this place unless there is no other place for beer.
Pros, the range of beers is a little more extensive compared to the other pubs. One of only place that doesn't charge for the tasters. Good presentation and explanation. Not so great? Here's a list...
The drinks. DO NOT order cocktails or worse mocktails. Sugary, artificial tasting juice with way more crushed ice than liquid. The mango cider tasted of artificial aam papdi flavouring. Cheap beer with some mango pulp would be better. The pitcher has a good quantity of liquid though.
The food. Underwhelming. Please step out and eat at Bade mian. Or any other place. Mustard Prawn and some other Fish dish had the same sauce. Street side stalls make better chicken. We ordered 2 portions of orange chicken. So deplorable that we could not bear to finish it. The parmesan fries were good. The dip allegedly had cider. Perhaps my taste buds were too disappointed to detect any hint of anything close to any kind of brew in it. The seating and maintenance... The bar stool esque seating downstairs was little difficult for my friend's mom.
Don't sit facing the bar. The AC drips on you. No vents there. So it's stifling. The seating arranges to be uncomfortable and...
