Baro Masi — Restaurant in Rajasthan

The one star is for the beautiful view this place provides. Beside this there is not a single good thing that I can talk about.

Let me begin from the start. We got down from the Rang mandir’s side. The hired car cannot navigate through the narrow roads, so I was advised by my driver to take an auto rickshaw. I saw some 5-6 rickshaw at that location. The moment I shared the destination name with the rickshaw drivers, all of them advised us not to go to Baro Masi. They warned us of the poor service. We thought that they were not getting commission from the bar, so they were bad mouthing the place. We ignored them and started walking towards Baro Masi.

I wish I had listened to the rickshaw drivers…

The lift to the roof top can accommodate only 2 people! When we reached the roof top, we were greeted with loud music playing from battered speakers. And I am not joking, the speakers are on their last leg. We had to request the floor manager to turn the music down as it created an awful sound. The tables where we sat had no lights. There were couple of lanterns, but they did not make any difference whatsoever. Even the “Chudails” of Indian horror films carry better lanterns!!! I looked around and was shocked that at every table people were using mobile phones to see the menu or the food that they were eating. At any bar/restaurant when you sit to dine, you are always served water first. We were served water after 1 hour 45 minutes when we were halfway through the dinner!!! Absolutely shocking. We ordered drinks. One of us ordered Whiskey Sour with egg. We were served a plain Whiskey drink. When we called for the barman, he informed us that the waiter never informed him about the egg. What was shocking was the waiter in front of us started putting down the barman and told him that he should have known that egg needs to be put. The barman was very humble. We could see he was angry but was smart enough not to fight with the waiter. The waiter instead of apologising simply tried to pass the buck. Really disappointed with the staff. If this was not enough, the barman told us that he will use Jim Beam for Whiskey Sour. What we were served was red label whiskey sour. He/they did not realize that we will notice the difference. When confronted, the barman finally accepted that he had used red label instead of Jim Beam!!! Bloody Frauds! Later, the floor manager came and acknowledged that he had tasted the drink and agreed with us that it was not whiskey sour and apologized on behalf of the barman who tried to cheat us. He offered us free shots, but we declined.

I highly recommend not to go to this place and if you still want to go there, be aware of what is being served. I am not sure how many people have been fleeced...

Avoid Baro Masi – One of the Worst Dining Experiences!

I had a truly disappointing experience at Baro Masi in Udaipur on March 15, 2025. I had booked a slot for 9:30 PM through Zomato, and we arrived at the restaurant at 9:15 PM, as instructed, only to be told that we would have to wait for another 1.5 hours because walk-in customers had already filled the tables. This was incredibly frustrating, especially since we had a confirmed booking.

When we tried to discuss the issue with the manager, he was rude and dismissive, which was completely unacceptable. Despite the poor treatment, we decided to wait, understanding that the restaurant might be busy. After waiting until 11:00 PM, we were finally seated, but it didn’t get any better from there. It took them 20 minutes just to serve us water, and another 20 minutes to take our order, even though we were starving after such a long wait.

When we went to the kitchen to check on the status of our order, we were horrified to see that the same utensils were being used for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes without proper cleaning in between. As strict Jains, we had ordered a Jain pasta, but it was being prepared in a non-veg utensil. This is a serious health and hygiene issue, and it was completely unacceptable.

To add to the horror, the water they served us wasn’t even bottled water. When we asked for bottled water, they filled an old bottle from another customer and gave it to us, claiming it was sealed packed water. This is beyond unhygienic and deceptive.

Baro Masi is an extremely disorganized and unhygienic place, and the staff has no respect for customers. They behave rudely, with no regard for customer service. This was, by far, one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. I strongly urge all customers to avoid Baro Masi at all costs. There are far better places in Udaipur where your time and money will...

Visited Baro masi with the least expectations on the food and service as per the reviews. The view and atmosphere is without a doubt a superb experience but when it comes to food and service they should be rated negative. I ordered Chicken seekh kabab, Laal Mans, dal bati, paneer masala around 9:15PM. Among the family we played little game when the ordered will be served and who so Evers timings matches he will not be paying the bill and last person who guessed the timing was 10Pm. Guess what, no one won as the ordered wasn’t served even around that time. When asked the staff(I think name was Bhanwar) he finally served us the chicken kabab. I shouldn’t say but taste was very dull. I wasn’t expecting a frozen kabab which generally cost around 50 Rs raw for single pc, will be served here. Our patient died and we eventually had to ask for bill of the only dish which they served(kabab). Jaw dropped when I saw they are charging 510Rs to this frozen single kabab.pic for reference attached. Undoubtedly they are charging only for the view they have. Short of staff to attend the guests. When you call them no one listens easily and say 2mins pls. Only 2 chefs you can see who are bombarded with the orders which is the main reason of the delay. I liked the honesty of Bhanwar Singh who accepted that they are short of chefs and delay in the service. I would suggest if you are going then just only visit for the purpose of experiencing the view but not food. Click some pictures have something pocket friendly and leave. If you really want to enjoy the tasty food then my recommendation would be ”Sun n Moon cafe” which is hardly 500-700...
