Bay 146 — Restaurant in Tamil Nadu

Went in on a Friday night after getting an approved Zomato booking.

The parking tale within the Savera premises is another story and I plan to vent it out at the hotel’s pin. In one word- discriminatory.

Now at the entrance of Bay 146, we were requested to pay 750/head fully redeemable cover fee because a live band was playing. I showed my booking and offered to pay via Zomato as I could pay via Zomato to Bay146 and get myself 15% off as I was a Zomato gold member. The bouncer and some other folks called some guy and then said, no, only cash or card, no Zomato. This should’ve been mentioned in the table booking or the table booking should’ve been rejected perhaps with this reason.

So after entering, the whole ambiance and all was nice, no complaints. Lava lamps and cosy lighting and all. The sofa seating felt plush, and was made with white leather like material. The FnB- bad. Don’t go by the menu on Zomato- it’s outdated and the waiters won’t even recognise the items on it. The service was slow and getting hold of a waiter isn’t an easy job. Had ordered the only salad on the menu- green salad and how simple was it? Too simple- are we in a local bar or an upscale restobar? A beef starter wasn’t also appreciated well by the folks. Beer was served in chilled mugs, a plus point, canned beverages were cold. LIITs are the worst here- a repeated replacement wasn’t any better either. A strawberry mocktail did actually mock us as it was more than half just foam! But oh boy was it presented well. Mojitos are served on slanted Collin’s glass which was convenient given the low seating and high table.

The only good thing was the live band making up for the other disappointments. Would avoid this restobar for countless other options with far better food and beverages, unless it entices with any of the favourite bands playing in, in which case would come in to enjoy the music after having dinner wondering how to fully utilise...

This was my first visit and Bay 146 unfortunately did not live upto my expectations. We ordered Masala peanuts, Spicy Wedges and the Syrian Beef Fry. All the dishes were delicious. The food was good and delivered promptly to the table.

The 2 stars rating has to do with the Drinks.

To begin with we were told that Gin was not available. A friend ordered a Margarita and it had to be sent back the as it was not made well. The LIIT (Long Island Iced Tea) pitcher seemed watered down.

Zomato Gold members beware : you cannot redeem the 2+ 2 offer against pitchers or LIIT orders . I had used the 2+ 2 offer for LIIT at a restaurant in Mumbai just few days back and when I mentioned that to the Manager, I was told that this was their restaurant policy.

Bay 146 is my most favorite bar in Chennai right now. The staff is so friendly, their prices are cheap and they feature some really nice live bands every Friday. They aren't fussy about accepting Zomato Gold unlike a lot of joints I have visited. Their outside smoking zone is by far the best I have seen in Chennai. Whenever I am unsure about where to head out on any given day, I always end up picking Bay146 cause their service is always reliable and consistent and they are open to last minute reservations.
