Andhra Tiffin Room, the recently-opened Andhra restaurant on Cathedral Road in the same compound that houses Amaravathi, Snofield, and Delhi Dhaba from Shyam's Hospitality!

About a decade back, they used to be ruling the food scene in Chennai with specialty restaurants like Kaaraikudi for Chettinadu, Amaravathi for Andhra, The Dhaba for Punjabi, Sho-gun for Chinese, Coastline for seafood, and Kabul, for North-West Frontier food. Perhaps Amaravathi and Kaaraikudi are the only ones still relevant! Snofield and Freezone used to be the go-to places for ice cream! Such was their popularity during those days.

The moment I heard of the name Andhra Tiffin Room, it struck a bell! They opened a restaurant by the same name earlier in Thuraipakkam in 2014, and i remember having a decent experience back then! With the same enthusiasm, took a dear friend along to try their food, during lunch hours though. Both of us are not new to Andhra food, so there was a lot to look forward to.

The place is an all-day dining restaurant, and we were good to have Tiffin for lunch. The place seemed to be influenced by the recently-opened Darshini type restaurants, they also had a mix of stand-and-eat tables and the regular ones, self service and a pay-in-advance token system.

Before I go into food, let me tell you - the podi idli, palli chutney, allam pachchadi, and Filter coffee saved the lunch!

👉Podi idli was fantastic with onions and podi sautéed in wonderful ghee and idlis tossed in it. Brilliant aroma and flavor! That's where the good things ended. 👉Pesarattu was thin like a trace paper, and MLA Pesarattu didn't have upma. Had to tell them that so they made the next regular one with Upma. The miss wasn't an issue, the taste was! Just ordinary. Onions, green chillies and jeera, the typical filling inside was good. 👉Ghee Kaaram Masala was decent, not wow. 👉Pongal, the less said, the better. I should have known better not to order something that was prepared in the morning. Dry, brittle and low on taste. Disappointed! 👉Coffee was good!

Overall, not worthy of the pain taken to travel all the way to check out the latest entrant into the Chennai Food Scene. Hold your horses when you see a few people going ga-ga about this place, like how they normally do for everything! 😅

The sweet stall looked more impressive and promising than the restaurant itself, and they did have pootharekulu too, that's for another time. Perhaps punukulu and mirchi bajji in the evenings may change my opinion of the place. Paid 445 and 185 in all, a very average outing!

First thing that came to my mind was Sri Kanakadurga Sai Hot snacks and foods in Thuraipakkam, it would give them a run for...

I ordered - Idly,Podi Idly, ghee karam dosa and curd vada.

Idly ⭐⭐- was cold and could be good if it was served hot atleast warm.

Podi Idly ⭐⭐⭐- was good but the podi would have been tasty..Not sure why chillies was added when podi idly is spicy (It was like adding ice cubes in cold water)

Ghee karam dosa ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - was impressed with the batter and texture would have added a seperate karam than adding the kara chutney which was given in the side with the dosa

Curd vada ⭐ - The one star is for vada as the curd was very watery i prefer calling buttermilk vada

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ For Mr.Rama Rao in billing counter who was very kind and nice to us..

Suggestions Being the restaurant named as Andhra you guys can add the Andhra flavour to it and also can add Junnu which is barely available in Chennai.Coconut chutney was good but when it comes to Andhra tiffen peanut chutney will be very very good for the dishes in your menu..

Will definitely try once again to see if these suggestions were taken. All the...

I recently visited this place. Though the menu has limited options, the quality is really good. I wish they continue to maintain this taste. But the drawback is having a "self-service" setup. It's really difficult for people to get a seat and also collect their food. Looks more like a musical chair. The moment you go and collect your food somebody grabs your seat. And this is even more difficult for senior citizens or the differently abled. Yesterday morning I accompanied my parents and helped them in getting their food. They liked the quality of course. The next day they tried entering this place and was helpless. Aged people like them cannot run around and guard their seats at the same time. If you can have some proper seated dining experience and waiters attending the customers, this would be one of the best choice for...

Food: Another good place for vegetarians! You can find the items which we tried in this place. Ghee Pongal is good and I liked it. There are many options available and you can find the images added in this review. Timing: Please check in their official review page. We visited this place at a round 8AM. Price: Neither too expensive nor too cheap—affordable for most. Budget-conscious diners can pick a few items to try. Parking: Ample space available for both cars and two-wheelers. Service & Ambiance: Self-service with a clean and well-maintained dining area. Overall: A good place to try for a change. Give it a shot and decide for yourself! Tip: If you’re looking for more options nearby, Amaravathi, Delhi Dhaba, and a couple of other restaurants are just next door.
