Vrindavan - I regret for considering this hotel as an option!!!😡😡😡😡
Today, via zomato ordered 3 South Indian Thali which costed ₹219.50 each and 2 Aloo Gobi which costed ₹133.34 each. The bill was ₹1069.00 including tax. Estimated time was 44 mins but the delivery boy was at my doorstep at 28th minute without a single call. Appreciate their lighting fast delivery service but DEFINITELY NOT THEIR FOOD!😡
I'm extremely disappointed and unhappy after receiving the parcel. 3 main reasons for it. Let me explain.
#1- According to the items listed for South Indian Thali, I was able to find all the items in only one package and not in the other two meal parcles.
Icecream, Gulab Jamun, Poori Masaal, Dhaal, Urulai poriyal were missing in the other two meal parcels. I was wondering if all these were clubbed in a single package but it was not. Everything had just 2 spoons of quantity which was sufficient only for one person and it was obvious it's for only one parcel.
#2- The packaging was terrible. As soon as I received the parcel and when I opened it, I was hell shocked. The poori Masaal and rasam packets were broken and was smashed with all the other contents which literally made us non eatable and just throw that away. Hence, ONE MEAL PARCEL WAS COMPLETELY WASTED AS THE RASAM AND MASAL SACHETS WERE BROKEN AND POURED. IT WAS A TOTAL MESS.
And, the appalam and poori were packed together in an aluminium foil which was so dry and it looked as a mere paper. The appalam was broken into the tiniest particles than it can be. HAD TO THROW THIS AWAY TOO!
#3 - The quantity was very very very very less. The rice packed was not even sufficient for one. so less. Every item was not more than two spoons of quantity. Though we could adjust with the sidedishes, we could not get enough with the rice. VERY LESS.
I decided never to order or dine in here ever in my life again. I do not recommend this place if you are really hungry expecting a decent food! Surely NOT!
EXTREMELY POOR! Absolutely no value for...
Read moreWoodlands is possibly the last hotel in the city to survive the entry of foreign brands and over priced Indian chains to remain relevant and affordable.
The hotel is indeed woody and personifies a Chennai which is still genteel yet modern and Vrindavan fits this description to a T.
Vrindavan is themed with paintings of Lord Krishna's life and is slightly dimly lit.
The food is an all vegetarian affair with four types of thalis (meaning plate or a meal) - South Indian, North Indian, Special or Maharaja and Executive.
We tried the South Indian meal served in a round stainless steel plate over a banana leaf.
The meal came with a tomato soup, beetroot curry, pooris or unleavened Indian flat bread eaten with yellow daal, plain rice eaten with sambar which is a lentil based mixture of vegetables and spices in a tamarind base, koottu or vegetable stew, Sundakkai Vathal Kuzhambu or tangy gravy made of tamarind broth, pulses and dried turkey berries and rasam or mulligatawny soup.
The other accompaniments were raita which is onions and cucumbers in yoghurt and plain fresh yoghurt.
The meal comes with Indian sweets, today was Halva day and vanilla ice cream.
The servings of rice are unlimited.
The service is quick and efficient. This is one restaurant where the clientele is loyal and encompasses three generations or more. Don't believe me? See it for yourself.
Vrindavan and the hotel it is situated in offer that slice of old Chennai which most restaurants capture via old sepia prints :)
Great service, tasty food, reasonable price, amazing pictures of Lord Krishna and the sylvan and verdant settings of Hotel Woodlands make this a must visit place in my view.
Oh QE the II came here for high tea in 1961.
It’s not as noisy as some of the other restaurants...
