I visited New Andhra Meals in Pondy Bazaar recently after quite a long gap. This place used to be our regular haunt during college days — a spot where we’d bond over hearty, spicy Andhra meals that hit all the right notes. So naturally, walking in brought a wave of nostalgia.
We ordered two meals along with a few starters. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite live up to the expectations set by our fond memories.
The rice was undercooked and hard, which made it difficult to enjoy the gravies. The sambar was far too watery and lacked the depth and richness that usually defines a good Andhra sambar. The fish gravy, while spicy, also suffered from the same issue — it was thin and watery, almost like a spicy soup, without the body or texture you’d expect.
On a positive note, the starters were decent — flavourful and well-spiced, and probably the most enjoyable part of the meal.
It’s always a bit disappointing when a place you once loved doesn’t quite deliver the way it used to. Hopefully, it was just an off day, and they’ll bring back the consistency and flavour that once made this place a staple...
Read moreWe went to New Andhra Meals after the awesome movie Kaithi.
This hotel was chosen as my mom wanted to have good Andhra meals and my wife suggested this hotel which we went together 5 years back and to our satisfaction it didn’t disappoint us.
We ordered meals with Prawn chili, chicken 65, mutton chukka.
Pumpkin kootu was very good and I loved it, beerakai pachadi was also good, rest veg dishes like Sambar, rasam, vendaka with ground nut was in amazing taste, curd at its best and parappu podi was not up to the mark.
Fish and chicken curry was not good it’s so artificial while they can provide the same.
Coming to the nonveg starters,
It’s been long tasting prawn chili with so much home made taste and I love it and it’s a sure order next time too.
Chicken 65 was very very soft and it was great.
Mutton chukka was in andhra style with seasoning and it was good.
So final verdict is, new Andrea meals taste stayed the same as 5 years before while they must improvise on the non veg curry.
I want to rate 3.5 but rated 4 for t he quick service and good...
Read moreI was on my way back home and I saw this place in flashing red lights. I went in at 7.30 pm Thursday and it was empty. There are two levels. As soon as i entered, the staff asked me to go upstairs. I had high expectations from food here after reading the reviews. I ordered meals which I think is the appropriate benchmark to judge the food at any Andhra meals restaurant. As soon as I ordered, first came the huge banana leaf followed by so many items one after another. They also brought a small pot full of ghee and left it there, which doesn't happen in many places. Pappu(dal) was awesome and so was rasam. All the remaining items were also good but nothing great to mention. I was expecting a sweet dish in the end but I didn't get any. Seating is very comfortable but the lighting could have been brighter. Overall it was a good experience but, I feel the price is on a higher side. It costs Rs 195/- including taxes. And I think, its too much considering similar servings at a much cheaper rate in Hotel Ananda, which is...
