I visited Sandy's Chocolate Laboratory twice yet dined only once. First time I got turned down as they were cleaning up from the audit a day before. The next Sunday I signed up for a breakfast date at Sandy's.
The ambience is decent, few options of comfortable seating, and minimal decor. The overall menu looked interesting to look along with the menu items on offer. I fixed up a Market Plate, which was essentially a poached egg on sourdough crouton / toast, which also comes with avocado, a variation of Eggs Benedict. They initially refused to serve as they do not have avocado in season, but I requested that it is ok to serve it without that and they kindly obliged.
I also picked up Sandy's signature house made cold coffee that arrived quickly.
I wasn't not so lucky with the version of Eggs Benedict that I ordered out of the menu. It took ages to arrive, yet it looked disappointingly dark, completely with burnt edges on what might have been a sourdough slice. Politely sent it back and they promised to correct it and the rightly toasted version did arrive quicker than the burnt one.
It was a decent version, the sourdough was a good replacement to english muffins, good crunch, but what I did not prefer was the hollandaise sauce after being poured on the poached egg, was somehow toasted and was dry. It is a serving style in SMOOR, Bangalore too, but I personally do not prefer it. This classic french sauce has to be runny and collaborate well with the runny yolk and create a beautiful texture and flavour on the plate. I did share the feedback with the staff to ensure this serving style is corrected. But I must say, I was extremely happy with the poached egg, it was simply well made and perfectly runny.

Our visit to Sandy’s this Sunday was nothing short of a nightmare. We ordered Alfredo pasta, spaghetti and pesto pasta, three cheese sandwich, tiny cake, Nutella cake, chicken lasagna, and hot chocolate. The bill was close to ₹4000, but the experience was not worth a single rupee.
The chicken lasagna was absolutely terrible. It was dry, overcooked, and lacked any semblance of proper lasagna. There was hardly any sauce, no visible pasta sheets, and just a clump of overcooked ground chicken. When we raised the issue, we were curtly told, "It's pre-made, and nothing can be done to fix it." A restaurant charging premium prices should at least ensure its dishes are edible, but Sandy’s completely failed here.
As if the bad food wasn’t enough, the hygiene was downright disgusting. One of the servers was in the middle of changing from chappals to shoes right in front of us while handling food. He wiped his feet and shoe soles with his socks, then proceeded to assist his colleague in cutting a sandwich without washing his hands. This is not just unprofessional – it’s outright hazardous.
We complained to the manager about both the food and the hygiene, but they couldn’t have cared less. They didn’t even attempt to address or rectify the situation.
For a place that charges this much, you expect a minimum standard of quality and cleanliness, but Sandy’s utterly failed on every front. If this is what happens in front of customers, one can only imagine the horrors in their kitchen.

But one of the the service staff at Nungambakkam Sandy’s is full of Attitude . When I called him to take the order he told me to wait with big attitude in his face . I think he got bored of his job . Same work all time , so he got bored I think . After placing some orders I also placed an order for a salad . When it became too late , I asked him and he replied with an angry face but I can see that he controlled his anger but the attitude was seen in his face . He is a complete danger for the customers. He thinks he owns the customer and the roads .If that guy doesn’t want customers to come then why do you promote and advertise? . He told me that he will cancel the salad order and I said yes . But he brought the salad and kept it on the table and went angrily. I told him not to get angry . But again he showed attitude. I never ate that salad . I just paid the full bill and left the place with my family. Very bad experience. But Sandy’s is the best for food and ambience.
