Wow, what an absolute five-star disaster in the heart of T. Nagar! After shopping at Kumaran Silks, our group of 20 (yes, from a 10-year-old to a 70-year-old granny) thought we’d grab a nice lunch here because hey, it’s walkable. Big mistake. Their ‘waiting area’ is basically standing in the scorching sun like roasted peanuts.
After 30 minutes of this five-star treatment, we were finally graced with partial entry. We ordered their grand ₹230 ‘lunch special thali,’ and let me tell you, it was truly special. Not one single dish managed to taste edible. I didn’t even know you could make sakkara pongal taste like a punishment, but bravo, they nailed it. The curries? Let’s call them curry drops—barely enough to smear on a rice grain, and still so bad you wouldn’t dare ask for more.
Dal podi and gongura with dalda instead of oil or ghee—sure, because why stop at ruining taste when you can also ruin health? The waiters—ah yes, an entire art form of disrespect. Call them and they’ll casually float past you as though you’re invisible. Perfect customer service training if the goal is to raise blood pressure. And the cherry on top?
After serving us the worst thali experience of our lives, the waiter demanded a ₹30 tip. For what—mental trauma and free anger management practice?
Honestly, this place deserves a standing ovation from the food quality inspection team. In fact, it’s only fair if they fast-track this place for a nice little shutdown ceremony. T. Nagar has many gems, but this… this is a stone...
Read moreThe Woodlands Chain of restaurants are a legendary set of institutions, started way back in time, there were several branch outs from the original owners and you see New Woodlands (that is also in Bangalore), Woodlands, Woodlands Drive-in etc. One such legend is Woodlands T.R. in T.Nagar, a must visit after some heavy duty shopping. I ventured here recently, actually before gearing up for a shopping trip and savoured their super soft ghee idli with some yummy vadai and sambar. The highlight was two bowls of chutneys, probably to share amongst everyone on the table, that were superb. The coconut chutney was delicious and fresh, but that tomato chutney was divine, a beautiful sweet tanginess that was perfect with the idly and the special dosa that I devoured next.
The dosa was super crispy and came as a cone but got destroyed because of my hunger, there was a ghee overload in this super crispy special dosa that I absolutely loved and finished off this fantastic breakfast with a nice super strong filter coffee.
Service was very much perfect, impeccable almost, with a little bit of a smile would be welcome.
Food gets five stars and #apjprecommends can’t wait to have their thali meals on my next...
