This is my maiden visit. The place is traditional looking. I love such lowkey, but clean atmosphere. As one can imagine, there were a lot of ppl following the strict queue protocol there. 1 queue for dine in and another for takeway. inside, there were a few ppl working to prep idlis pongal and to obey the guy (owner) barking( meant in a colloquial maner) out parcel orders. There's a well established flow of how things work and they seem to happen smoothly. Coming to the food: Pongal and vadai looked good. looks like the maybe the pongal was made with broken rice as the rice particles were just small. I like full grains in my pongal. Vadai was good. The chutney and sambar were VERY watery. The guy pouring sambar does not seem to kalakkify it fully before serving. he's just slightly kalakkifyung it. Or maybe the sambar itself is watery, not sure. so, was grossly disappointed with sambar. and since the plate is small and sambar is poured on top of the dish, one does not get to taste the dish alone, much. But, the best thing is after eating there, I did not seem to get a overtly full feeling.. which is good . So, will I go there again? Hmm will let the food digest and then think about it. Final verdict: if you are looking for a rustic, cleanish, cost effective, quick(if dine in, parcels seems longer wait) spot to eat in mylapore, this is a place you can try.
compare this with: rayar Cafe is comparable. but, I'd say pongal @rayar is a bit better bcos of the full grain.. + chutney tastes better. Karpagambal mess has good pongal, but, you may be asked to write off your...
