Trouser annan kadai was superb...it is kind of small mess or hotel, you can find only old version of wooden table and small plastic chair to sit. No cushion seat. Non AC but no much irritating hot environment, fan is there for proper wind flow. At a time 20 to 25 ppl max can sit and eat. No parking facility... that is too poor. Car or bike we have park in the main road only. Regarding food service also poor...for each and everything like staring from banana leaf to buttermilk we have keep ask each item at least 5 times and it will take 10min to come... and my best suggestion is don't buy meals there which cost 70, not at all worth. Non of the items like sambar, rasam and some non-veg gravy... nothing is so good...but buttermilk was awesome that you can get separately in glass. On top of all...Let me come to the main dishes, they have very limited menu as it is hotel but taste was super...wow...yummy...etc... menu you can google it. Qty are around (50 to 150grams) they serve in one small plate. Each and every dishes has its unique delicious taste..worth of cost...normal ppl 250/person (1meal +1fish fry)...for food lovers minimum 700/person(but it is worth for its taste) so that you can taste the menu items... regarding quality, i feel it is super quality food, fresh food, hand made masala, fresh oil too...so you will not feel the stomach upset.
Personal advice is don't go for meals but taste all other menu items. Vanjaram fry, cola urundai made of smashed mutton , prawn fry, mutton brian and buttermilk are...

They seem to follow an old time tested version of the recipes developed over decades. A limited menu and a rustic dine in experience is it's major plus.
However, this place does suffer from the commercialisation of ingredients that happens inside cities, ofcourse through no fault of their own.
The ingredients sourced for the food particularly the meat and spices are of local origin and hence lack the flavour that they once must have had. For example the Kola urundai would taste way better if it had been vella aadu (goat) kari, but since that meat is hard to come by inside Chennai they seem to be using semmari aadu (sheep) kari. We know that the chillies found here in Chennai aren't spicy (hot) enough, so many dishes lack that oomph of mouth burning sensation which they ideally should have been associated with.
Four stars for the price. The taste would be phenomenonal if they sourced ingredients from outside the city which would increase the price, or move probably into the countryside to bring back that alluring taste.
If you've been born and brought up in a metropolitan city, definitely try this place out. This place beautifully depicts and let's you experience how a Kadai near a bustling bus stand is run in a typical Tamil town.
If your roots are not from Chennai, well inga namma ooru saapadu expect panni varatheenga. Namma oor saapadoda taste...
Read moreWent to the shop after my friend found it online and also due to very high google review ratings. Its a very small shop which you will definitely miss if you're going for the first time. Its a very small place with dining space for 5-6 people and not very hygienic conditions. So please keep that in mind before going. They provide unlimited rice with mutton and fish gravy. Both the gravy were very average to say the least. My favourite item in the shop was the Sura puttu. It was very good and was served hot which added to the experience. Next we tried Vanjaram fish. The masala they use in the fish is very good but uneven. The first fish we had was very good and even masala coating. But in the second fish the masala was less which made the fish taste a little bland. The prawn masala was good and tasty. Then we had the mutton kola urundai which we tried as it was mentioned in many reviews. The masala used in that is different and tastes good but it isn't as good as some of the other reviews made it out to be. As the shop is very small, it is heavily crowded so may have to wait for some time. The price of all the items is on par with big hotels but the overall ambience and atmosphere of the place makes you feel a pinch when you pay your bill. Strictly a one time visit but tame your expectations to...
