I often eat at Warung Mendez, and my favorite dishes are Rawon and Tempe Mendoan, which are always very delicious.

However, today I was quite disappointed, because the staff informed me that now there is a 3% charge for payments using either card or QRIS. They said it was due to a new rule from the bank this month and also an order from the owner. But I personally have not found any official regulation regarding this. Based on my experiences so far, including last month when I came, there was no additional charge at all when paying with QRIS. Fortunately, I had just enough cash with me today, so I paid in cash and didn’t use QRIS.

Actually, the 3% is not a problem for me if it is truly my responsibility as a customer. But according to Bank Indonesia Regulation No. 11/11/PBI/2009 Article 8 and the Consumer Protection Law No. 8 of 1999, transaction fees should not be charged to consumers. If the owner feels burdened by the MDR (Merchant Discount Rate) fee from EDC or QRIS, the proper step is to file a complaint or negotiate with the bank, not pass the cost on to customers.

It is really unfortunate, because the food here is genuinely good and I like it. But this new policy is quite disappointing. I hope it can be reconsidered in the future so that dining at Warung Mendez remains enjoyable and in line with the applicable regulations.

📌 Note for customers: It’s better to bring cash when dining here, otherwise you will be charged 3% if paying by debit/credit card or QRIS, which by regulation is not supposed to be the customer’s...

We have been to Bali many times and eaten in many many places. In all honesty this would have to be the worst meal we have ever had here. Earlier in the day we dropped in and looked at the menu. They had both BBQUE goat and duck on the menu which we both like immensely. We booked to return at 7 to make sure they had the meat. We arrived and there was 5 ladies talking in the restaurant. We sat down and had to approach them to let them know who we were and what we were there for. We asked for water, we got 2 glasses which we ARE DEARLY HOPING was filtered water. The duck was the smallest duck I've ever encountered and the goat was so dry you needed to carve it with a butchers knive. It appeared that none of the staff cared nor wanted to ensure that things were okay. We didn't complain, we just paid and left. Be very aware that this place does not deserve the previous reviews ir has received. Because we would give them a 1 out of 5 for...

warung mendez is probably one of the most underrated restaurants here in ubud. the interior looks simple and slightly run down but the kitchen, all womens team can cook up a storm. the food is down right delicious, i went for dinner last night and came back again tonight. . the bbq chicken rice is top notch - with half a chicken grilled to perfection while retaining juicy, succulent meat. while the sup asem (sour soup) is appertizing, their take on vegetable tempura caught my attention. local vegetables and mushrooms deep fried in thin batter and while the japanese gave a sweet/ salty dipping sauce, they gave chili padi with soy sauce 😂😅 the dessert was the weakest, i had caramelised grilled pineapple with vanilla ice cream and it was pedestrian. nothing to shout about. . overall i had an enjoyable meal the past 2 nights here and whenever im back to jln penestrenan, im sure to drop by...

Date: 02/03/2019 Came across the restaurant as I was looking for a place to eat. The ambience is nice. Kitchen is open to the view of the customers. The staffs are friendly. The BBQ Chicken was good but the Crispy Duck was just ok. They served 3 flavours of chilli paste and one is better than the other (refer to the picture attached) - if you can handle chilli, this is worth a try (but can be a bit oily). The food menu with the price is attached to help you with estimate the cost of your meal. Just note that the price listed includes both the service and tax.

To start with i had the papaya salad, this was delicious and at times reminded me of being back in Thailand. I had a thai green curry and rice. The rice came on a small plate and the thai green curry wall filled to the brim on a bowl. I asked for a larger plate to eat off and this seemed to cause a stir. I just wanted to beable to have rice and curry on the same plate. The thai green seemed at times closer to a tom yum with the amounts of roots and gineger etc bits needing tobe put on the side. The rice was cooked to perfection.
