We showed up in Ginza together with our guide being on a mission to find a place to have dinner later on the day. That being not easy with my wife and I being wine and food freaks and us being Westerners in Asia that we in general like so much, but where sometimes it is a bit difficult for us in respect to the food, especially when out of the capitals. At the same time it was the very first day when Ginza moved to a separate new building from their previous location in a mall. So, I am sure the owner and manager Laura Veronica had plenty of things to be taking care of. But we got her full attention right away regardless. Private room for teppanyaki – not a problem. They just moved, so they don’t have wines yet – but we can come with our own. Except they don’t have proper wine glasses – this isn’t a problem either, she will buy them for us before we come later tonight. And indeed, when we came later on, there were already 6 good quality glasses of 2 different shapes and sizes waiting for us. But not only glasses: she also bought 2 nicely decorated ice buckets, so that we could be controlling temperature of our wines. Can I see the meat they have for teppanyaki – not a problem, here comes the meat still in one big frozen piece. I would like them to make a cut 3 cm thick – of course, the price will change, but it isn’t an issue either. Can we make some adjustments to supposedly fixed teppanyaki sets – absolutely, we just have to tell her what to take out and if we wish to add something. All in all, no matter what complicated clients like us were asking her for – she had a solution instead of “sorry, no have” you hear in about all other places all the time no matter what you are asking for. Not least important to say that actually when we came, it was of course the chef who was standing at the teppanyaki sheet and cooking for us and he didn’t disappoint either. All in all, we ended up eating two teppanyaki lobster lunches in Ginza as well. Food issue in Bandung closed. Rhetorical question: why are not the majority of managers/owners of restaurants like Laura Veronica? Of course, the food we ate at Ginza, especially the Japanese wagyu beef we had for our first dinner, was followed by corresponding bills we had to pay. But somehow having an interested and able to pay customer in front of them isn’t a good argument enough in most places regardless of country or continent. To finish it all, I wish Laura Veronica all the best and for her business to prosper (which I am pretty...
