American Grill — Restaurant in Jakarta

What an utter disgrace of a restaurant!!! I have never in my life felt more robbed after walking out of a restaurant. Paid Rp373,000.00 for a 140g piece of tough meat which they have the audacity to call a “USAD” grade steak(whatever that means and a tiny piece of rubber like “Dorie” fish which was obviously frozen for probably a month before they served it to me, and maybe 15 French fries of it was that much. To the owner who is apparently from Singapore, you should be ashamed of yourself for the prices you charge for bad food. The restaurant is falling apart and it’s dirty, the windows needs a drastic wash and the “salad bar” was utterly empty and looked very sad, oh and the final sign that this place is about to go under is on display for all your clients as there are someone sitting in plain sight at one of the dining tables doing what looks like accounting 🤣 wow my man I think it’s time to sell or close. Do not go to this restaurant unless you wanna overpay, the food I had tonight wasn’t even worth Rp100,000.00. Then when it came to paying, your machine doesn’t work and then when I paid with cash the poor server (who was super nice and you could see how embarrassed she was to work there) had to give me change from her purse as the teller is empty, surprise! Untukku, American Grill ini seperti tempat dimana steak bertemu kehangatan. Tentu bukan karena tempat makannya yang hangat, karena AC disini tidak membuat gerah kok. Tempatnya sudah berbeda sejak pandemi Covid. Sekarang sudah tidak sebersih dulu. Mungkin karena gedung kecil ini hanya diisi oleh hotel dan restoran American Grill ini saja. Neon light khas Amerika masih menghiasi dekorasi restoran ini. Tidak ketinggalan patung Liberty menyambut Anda dengan tersenyum lebar di depan pintu restoran.

Khas yang saya gemari dari American Grill adalah free salad bar dan ice cream. Sayangnya, salad bar sekarang sudah tidak selengkap dulu, hanya setengah bar yang tersedia. Salad yang disajikan tetap segar, layaknya sehabis cuci muka. Untuk spaghetti dengan saus chicken bolognaise masih ada. Begitu juga nasi goreng, mie goreng dan spring roll. Di sisi seberang salad bar, terdapat bubur. Ice cream tidak tersedia di mesin lagi, bisa minta ke waitress by request. Tentunya, tanpa topping. Rasa ice creamnya tidak jauh berbeda dengan yang dahulu, masih enak.

Saya memesan sirloin steak, boneless ribs, pink salmon, hibachi chicken, spicy grilled chicken dan child patty steak. Sirloin steak (well done): terasa kurang juicy, karena well done. Biasanya memesan medium. Not my favorite. Boneless ribs: Percayalah, dagingnya begitu empuk, hingga hampir saja rebahan diatasnya. Pink salmon: Tidak ada yang istimewa dari salmon disini, tapi sangat pantas untuk dicoba. Hibachi chicken: Dada ayam yang empuk dan bumbu yang meresap, ingin rasanya bersandar di dadanya. Spicy grilled chicken: ISTIMEWA! Tidak terlalu spicy, bahkan untuk orang yang tidak suka pedas sepertiku. Child patty steak: Kawan, kids menu tidak pernah gagal. Percayalah.

Side dishnya, kucoba mashed potato, french fries dan baked potato. Kentang di American Grill memang joss. Ketiganya tidak ada yang gagal, terutama mashed potato.

I used to eat here often when I was a kid with my dad, at the time this restaurant called Sizzler only. Today I decided to give it a try again. It is actually still the same thing, but the potato is way smaller yea ;)

The food is great. Steak are excellent. I tried the ribs and meat combo, also chicken spicy grill (this is so good). All food you paid is included with the buffet..which they have wide selection of soup and salad. all complete and taste fresh. They have dessert and ice cream also.

One thing though...I think it is about time they really need to renovate and refresh the interior. It is kinda old...
